I lived in Woodbrook for a year. The most remarkable aspect of Woodbrook is its front office. Makayla and Amiya are amazing. I would find myself going in there sometimes just to have a good talk about whatever. They are so inviting and fun to be around. The maintenance staff all knew me by name, and it really made me feel at home. All maintenance requests were responded to very quickly. If we are looking strictly at staff, Woodbrook would be an absolute five-star. They all hit it out of the park every single day they work. The location isn't bad for an MSU student with a vehicle, and the price isn't horrible. Sadly, it's a 3-star rating because the apartments themselves feel cheaply built, and you are forced to use STLLER for internet, which was terrible. I had faster speeds running a hotspot from my phone than I did when connected to my Wi-Fi. read more

Back door of my apartment has been broken for 6 months. When speaking with management they have been incredibly unhelpful "oh yeah we will do this soon". 6 months later it's still broken and now it's winter so it's incredibly frustrating. Also a complete fire hazard. Will not be renting with DTN again. Besides the door they will not fix your maintenance requests but will mark them complete within an hour. I am writing a google review to formally express my concern regarding a recent phone call I received from Debbie who deals with accounts at DTN Management. During the call, I was informed that my account was being sent to collections. I had previously submitted a written request proposing a monthly payment of $250 toward my balance of a little over $5,000 at least until I get back to work. Unfortunately, Debbie described my offer as "an insult," which I found to be not only disheartening but also unprofessional. I explained that I had been unemployed for a year, during which time I paid $2,500 per month for up to 10 months despite having no income. I also shared that I recently secured a new job and was willing to provide documentation such as my offer letter to support my willingness and ability to resume payments. However, Debbie explicitly stated that she had no interest in seeing my offer letter and reiterated that since it had just hit 90 days to date, since I moved out and I should now direct all communication to the collection agency. She also informed me that my balance will now nearly double to close to $11,000. Additionally, I had contacted Barb in the front office earlier to inform her of my situation. I was told that I needed to submit a 30-day Notice to Quit, which I did, and that I could potentially be responsible for additional monthly charges depending on how long it took to lease the unit. My lease was set to end in June, but I moved out in April and followed the process as instructed. It is incredibly discouraging to feel that my circumstances are being dismissed without consideration. I was told that my lease does have empathy for hardships all the company cares about is keeping the main thing the main thing and that is paying them their money. Debbie in the accounting office is very unprofessional and difficult to work with. There was a discrepancy with my account with a late charge that was an error on their part, and instead of cooperating with me to adjust the account she sent it to a collection agency. (Even Desirae in the Grand Rapids office agreed that the charge was in error but Debbie refused to adjust the ledger. ) I do not suggest doing business with this organization- find someplace else to live. read more

Talked to corporate today to gain some help and knowledge. They forwarded my call to a lady named Debbie. She was the least pleasant person I have ever talked to on the phone. I don't know which part of the phone call was the worst, but it included her cutting me off on every single sentence, talking to me in a rude and demeaning tone, and her treating me like I was futile. I have never been treated so harshly for just asking a question and it was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had with customer service in a long time. If you need help I advise you not to talk to Debbie. Or if you're looking to live in a community DTN is not kind and they do not work towards resolving your problems. On top of all of this I lived in Glenwood one of their communities for a little less than a month, because it was miserable. The carpet was so coated in cat and dog hair that it did not come out after three carpet cleanings. It also smelled like cat piss. I begged the leasing office and the head of their housekeeping department to either replace the carpet or take care of the issues many times and they never met up with me after repeatedly setting up times to do so. The apartment was the most disgusting and upsetting move in day I have ever seen and I can't believe we had to live there as long as we did. Nothing was clean when we moved in. read more

DTN is really frustrating to deal with. If you are considering leasing from one of their properties... please search elsewhere. First is their lack of assistance to their tenants over the phone. When you call for help they rarely are any help. They either can't help you, tell you a manager will call you back (and they don't). It's super common to have an issue in their buildings: something breaks, loud neighbours, payment issues, etc. So when you call you always need help and they are never able to; you're always on your own to figure it out for yourself. DTN also has been raising their prices and I can no longer afford to live in my apartment. I was planning to re-sign my lease but the new one was about 300 more per month and I was never given an explanation. Of course when I call there was no help. Noise is a huge issue as well. I know this can vary widely based on the property you live at, but here it's awful. Our neighbors are so loud and keep my roommate and I up most nights. When we call to make a noise complaint the resident manager sometimes comes... will ask them to quiet down, and they go right back to it with no consequences. I think for all the money we pay to live here, I should be able to sleep at 3:00 am. The only helpful person I have dealt with in the company was Debbie Wren. We got into contact with her after some of our complaints and she was the first person to help us. She was the first who showed us she actually cares about the tenants. If DTN hired more people like her I think their tenants would be much better off. I don't think DTN cares about reviews or the safety/happiness of their tenants because they have a monopoly in East Lansing. However I would urge their management team and leadership board to make some big changes because it's no secret that many people are frustrated with the current circumstances. read more

If I could have rated zero stars I would have. Unfortunately, DTN operates the majority of rental properties in/around the Lansing/East Lansing area so they're almost impossible to avoid. If you can avoid renting from them do so at all costs. Customer service is not a priority for them. Debbie is the rudest, most condescending person I think I may have ever dealt with. They are absolutely not in business for the sake of their tenants. While I understand that they're in business to make money, you don't do so at the expense of your customers. Safety and general upkeep of their properties is also not a huge concern of theirs. The vast majority of their tenants are college students, so they figure they'll be too intimidated to speak up for themselves and just deal with whatever DTN tells them. Students are living in below average units and paying insane prices to do so. I would outline all of the issues with my unit and the lack of help from DTN, on site property management, and maintenance but the length of this review would be crazy, that's how bad it is. In my opinion DTN is predatory and renters should avoid them entirely if at all possible. read more

I have been a dtn customer for a little over 4 years. I first lived in Abbot Pointe apartments, where apart from a period of renovations that made my bedroom into a construction zone for 6 weeks, the experience was average. I expected the same when moving into their sister property, Auborn Place, but for the past week, I've been disgusted, stressed, and in tears too many times to mention. When I got my keys, the leasing agent who helped me told me that DTN documented that my unit had had carpet cleanings done, as well as a deep clean of the rest of the apartment. When I arrived, however, the place smelled very strongly of cat pee, there was litter and cat food in the carpet, and my feet got black just from walking from one end of the unit to the other. Throughout the week, I noticed several other issues which suggest the unit was not properly inspected before I moved in, and if you are interested in the details, I've included them below. The story DTN has told me is that they used a bad cleaning company this year, but I don't believe them because my carpets at Abbot Pointe were also dirty when I moved in, they just weren't as bad as they were here so I opted not to have another cleaning done due to the inconvenience of finding someone to help me move my furniture, and waiting for the carpets to dry. So far, everyone I've talked to at DTN except for one leasing agent, Lily, and the maintenants worker Alec, have made me feel as if I am inconveniencing them by asking for these issues to be fixed, when it was their errors that made the apartment not move-in ready. Please see below for a description of the issues and how they've been handled. As I mentioned above, the carpets were very unsanitary and smelly when I moved in. They were not able to rectify this issue until Tuesday, so I lived in my living room, which was slightly less smelly than the bedroom, for three days, and I had to inconvenience a family member to get help moving furniture that day. I didn't want to ask anyone from DTN to help because their construction crews had been very disrespectful and damaged multiple personal items in the past. The kitchen sink had clearly been leaking for a very long time, as the base of the cabinets under the sink were collapsed and severely water damaged. On the day I moved in, I notified maintenants of this issue, and was happy that someone came that night to look at it, but I also felt he only came to de-escalate the situation and tell me that there wasn't actually a leak. After the cabinets flooded the next day, I called for multiple days, and each person I spoke to told me something different, from I needed to put in a work order, to I should have told them it was a priority issue, to I shouldn't have put in a work order and should have called them instead. The leak was fixed on Thursday, but the cabinets are still damaged and the maintenants worker told me it would probably be a little while before they're able to get to them. I feel that they were only able to come on Thursday because I talked to the right person who knew how to put the work order in on the phone. The dishwasher had been improperly installed, and the maintenants worker who came to look at it said it looks like it had never worked; but it was still very grimy inside and had puddles of grease in it. There are also large gaps on either side of the dishwasher, where it looks like the framing had been busted out; and there is busted framing in the cracks.This was another thing that I was told wasn't broken when maintenants came the night I moved in, but the same guy came back on Thursday and said it never worked. It is still not fixed, and I don't have a timeline on it. Everything in the unit smells like a mix of smoke and mildew, and I have gone so far as to wash the walls, doors, and cabinets, but it still smells bad. The lighting throughout the unit is poor; there is no overhead light in the bedroom, and the bathroom and kitchen lights are clouded with smoke and flickering. The medicine cabinet in the bathroom only has half a mirror, and is so rusty I'm scared to touch it. Everything in the unit was covered in a significant layer of grime, and I've been cleaning as much of it myself as I can. The balcony is slanted in such a way that it floods when it rains, and the tar paper that they put down out there is peeling up. Finally, and this is just a personal thing, I was told that my unit was facing the back of the building when I signed my lease, which I had requested because I didn't want traffic noise from Saginaw. I didn't realize this wasn't the case until I moved in, and the traffic noise is very disruptive. I am trapped here for a year, paying $1080/months for an apartment that is disgusting and poorly maintained, and it makes me feel taken advantage of. I am dreading living here with the offensive smells, poor ventalation, and loud traffic for the next year of my life. read more

BEWARE! I lived in the Quary Village in Dewitt for roughly 8 months. In February I started having issues with another tenant allowing their Doberman to come onto my patio and, with his nose on the glass, barking and growling at my two dogs. I had reported this issue to the leasing office as it was occurring daily and violating my privacy as well as causing my dog's extreme stress. In late February I left my place in a hurry to pick up my son from school and the suction from the garage door caused the front door to open, long story short, my dogs got out and the Doberman was out for a walk. Did not go well. Within a few days I was given notice to vacate the property for "violating the lease". DTN proceeded to charge me over 2500 for "breaking the lease" even though I was being forced to move. I questioned the validity of this since I was being forced to move, but was informed by Debbie Ren at the DTN head office that it doesn't matter that it was an accident and happened one time. Debbie was horrible, condescending, unreasonable and would not even let me talk. She treated me like I was scum. It was irrelevant that my dog that was almost killed by the Doberman and had been provoked (which was reported). She stated that I was a neglectful pet owner and in violation of my lease therefore responsible for paying the fee to break it as well as paying rent until the townhome was re-rented. She also let me know that my dogs "should be destroyed" (direct quote)! I moved out on March 11th at which time I provided the leasing office and Debbie Ren my new address so that the final ledger could be sent. I proceeded to pay Aprils rent on April 4th since the Townhome was not re-rented as of April 1st. On April 14th my daughter started receiving threatening collection calls. DTN has sent me, and my two college daughters, (who were only on the lease so that they could use the facilities when they came to visit on breaks) to collections. There was not a past due balance or any indication that I was not complaint to pay. The balance sent to collections was for over 10K when at the time even if I were to have to pay the full remaining lease amount and the fee to break the lease the balance was only 7.5K. They collectors began calling all three of us daily even though there was no overdue payment/balance. I proceeded to leave messages for Debbie Ren and did not receive a call back. Today this issue is still un-resolved and I have not received any notice or ledger by mail or email from DTN. This company is UNETHICAL, they do not care about people or animals. They are only in it for the money. They are attempting to ruin my young daughter's credit even though I have only been complaint and making all payments. I do not recommend renting from them even if the places seem nice. I only wish I'd read these reviews before I signed the lease. read more

I am leaving this one now mainly because over the span of 6 months my roommates and I have tried calling a total of around 50 times and not once have they ever answered the phone. Review for THE LIV APARTMENTS - LIVONIA, MI - A DTN PROPERTY Don't let the nice looks and location fool you. We have had a horrendous experience with our first year at The Liv Apartments. These people don't care about you, all they want is to fill units. Once you sign, they don't care. 1. Our washer and dryer broke within the first few months after light use and spilled water all over the floor. We were told it was not an emergency and that there was no timeline for getting it fixed or replaced. After a week with no working washer and only after fighting for help to was hour clothes, we were given access to an unfinished unit IN A DIFFERENT BUILDING to wash our clothes. After doing that for another week and stating how ridiculous this was, we were given the washer and dryer out of the model unit for a replacement. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FIGHT FOR A REPLACEMENT WASHER AT A LUXERY APARTMENT PAYING $2,000 IN RENT! 2. WE'VE HAD TO CALL THE COPS TWICE on our upstairs neighbors because of banging and heavy loud impacts in the middle of the night. A women was ESCORTED OUT ON A GURNEY AT 3AM because I called concerned for what was happening above us. This has continued for months and what has management done... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They asked us to record the sound from our neighbors, provided that. We've contacted the police. We have called, emailed, reported and guess what? WE STILL GET JOLTED OUT OF BED AT 2AM BECAUSE OF VIOLENCE UPSTAIRS THAT MANAGEMENT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT. I pay too much to not get to sleep peacefully. SO MUCH FOR "QUIET HOURS." Don't get me started on the 3RD FLOOR TREADMILL above our heads running at 5AM. Management doesn't care. 3. The hallways smell like WEED and TRASH many nights because people smoke inside and the valet trash will often come late at night and at inconsistent times. 4. A pipe leak that we were told would take 2 days to fix took 2 weeks. So our office had things scattered with a HOLE LEFT IN THE WALL and you guessed it... It only finally got finished after we fought to have them come finish the job. 5. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT - Here's all the things currently listed on the website that you'll be told on your tour your getting, but they're lying. - Package Receiving - NOPE. Packages get left ON THE FLOOR IN THE COMMON AREA FOR ANYONE TO STEAL. - Covered Parking - NOPE. A LIE. - Bike Racks - Nope. - Outdoor CrossFit area - NOPE. - Storage Areas - NOPE. They just want to lure you in with nice looks and promises so you sign. No different then Park Place in Northville, go read their reviews. Give it time and these will look just as bad. Lastly, it is SAD how PAPER THIN these floors and walls are for a building built in 2021. Move here and be ready to invest in some noise cancelling headphones just to sleep or have evening or morning peace. read more

If you move out, they'll want $50 for every month you've lived there (I was there 6 and they want $300), as well as there being $250 to flat out break the lease, along with you having to continue to pay the cost of your rent until another person takes your place, which is something they might not even tell you has happened. I lived in one of the apts for over 2.5 years. Always paid in full and on time with no issues. I was told by management I was one of their favorite tenants because I paid and required very little. When I moved out however I should have been refunded the entire security deposit and was told that the water is two months behind. Upon investigation that is not true. The water company was switched and billing/recording lapsed two months because of the switch but I was still paying the required amount every month and their spreadsheet they sent to me proved this fact. When I called to discuss it the manager of the complex I stayed in was nice and we talked and she agreed something doesn't make sense and said she would fwd it to corporate. When I talked to corporate regarding the situation the woman was extremely rude and did nothing but gaslight me repeatedly. Telling me the spreadsheet is right and I owe but the spreadsheet literally shows I paid all money owed every month. I am not paying for water for months I do not live there. She is ignorant to dismiss a tenant so callously not realizing my background in real estate. DTN you are charging tenants for services they are not using because they are not living there because their lease has ended. That is fraud. read more

I have been with DTN for about 6 years. Never made a late payment, always renewed new leases with them and even brought them customers during this 6 years. But this past year has been awful and the actual scammed me and my roommates. My roommates and I were unable to stay in our apartment so we had to find subleasers and move out. This process in of itself was awful because DTN's lease policy is that you can pay a break lease fee (one full months rent) but YOU ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE for the apartment until you or someone else fills the apartment. Really no reason at that point to even pay that fee, its better to just find a person yourself. Craziest lease policy I have ever seen. Well we never found someone, so for an entire year me and my roommates paid rent on a place we didn't live in. A month and 3 weeks before the lease ended we got a call saying they possibly had someone to move in and we would know by the end of that week if they were or not. Friday came and I received no call so I called them and they confirmed these people were going to sign our lease. I discuss with Ross about what needs to be done next. My roommates and I had to get the rest of our belongings out of the apartment and then that coming Monday we had to turn in all of our keys. My roommates and I did just that. Then Monday came around and I called to make sure they received the keys and everything was all set. Ross said YEP! and had me call lansing board of water and light and consumers energy to turn off our power and put it back in DTN's name. I asked about 5 times if we were done with the apartment and if we would have to make any more payment, he assured me no and that we would only get a bill for damages. 3 weeks after this phone call (June 3, 2019) I received a bill in the mail for not only the damages but for the last months rent!! I called because I was very confused. They then informed me that these people were not going to move in after all and my roommates and I are responsible for the remainder of the rent. With receiving no phone call about this situation I was extremely upset. I also did not just have this money on me and it was ridiculous to think a bunch of college kids would. Long story short I contacted their corporate office and they took the side of the leasing office and did little to nothing for us. They offered a payment plan which I guess is better than nothing? But now we are just paying for them to be in our apartment and do renovations. We are still paying but have no access to our house (because we turned in the keys) and no power because we were told to turn it off. Do not rent from this property! They completely scammed us and because they only had talked to us on the phone and we had nothing in writing (because with being with this company for 6 years, I never thought they would do this to me) the corporate office blew us off and just said their employees were acting in good faith. Um no they weren't. Hold your employees accountable and don't screw over someone who has been with the company for that long! *I have NEVER wrote a bad review about ANYTHING, so take this one seriously.* If I could give a ZERO star, I would. I had my automatic withdrawals set-up for my rent. I moved out May 4th, and they charged me a whole month's rent for May, even though they said that we did not owe that. They told me that a refund would be sent through the mail to my roommate within 60 days (already unacceptably too long), and it has been 90 days with STILL no refund. I have called 15 times throughout the past 90 days requesting my refund, and my voicemails are not returned. This is absolutely terrible service. read more

I have been a resident at Delta Square for over 5 years and in the last year there has been more issues with maintenance staff than before. As of today we don't have maintenance staff to take care of resident issues unless there are emergencies. This is truly unacceptable since raising our rents the services are terrible. Staff doesn't take the time or effort to even pickup the trash around the complex. DTN keeps changing managers and staff when we do get a good group of people working here DTN changes up things and makes matters worse. The current complex manager is trying his best but to no avail. Residents deserve better and not to have their rents raised. read more

You're better to find a place under MSU's coops or ANYWHERE ELSE than the several properties they own. Even though I've shown loyalty toward them by living in their properties for years, they do not seem to appreciate me. They are aggressive about the rules and threw my friend out of the pool. The managers really make living here miserable. They are strict about parking and will tow your car then force you to pay $300 for it. They come into my apartment when I request them not to. When I moved into my apartment it was a mess and nothing like the one they showed me. It's impossible to get out of a lease so just don't sign one in the first place. I'm not one to get into arguments or have issues with housing, and I really don't like talking bad about anything but I feel like people need to be warned. read more

Save yourself some trouble and never rent from DTN. I rented from DTN for two years and had nothing but problems. I was lied to when signing my lease that I would have a washer and dryer unit in my apartment and did not have one and was told I was lying eventhough it was written in the lease. I could not get ahold of anyone that would help me since most of the workers are just part-time students so eventually I just gave up. Every appliance in my apartment was leaking and falling apart and all they did was have maintenance temporarily fix it with makeshift parts. I had to make a maintenance request atleast once a week. At one time my heat went out and it took four days to fix and it was 49° in my apartment. They overwork their maintenance workers and do not give them the proper equipment to fix anything. I paid 650 dollars a month plus utilities to live in a small rundown apartment. DTN does not care about their residents or their workers and will screw you over just to get money. read more
