While it was a bit of a side trip being in Governor's Bay, I figured I could use the break and grab something to eat so I planned the stop. ...and I am so happy I did. It was a weird off-the-main-path route coming from Dunedin - the roads weren't as busy so I did question where exactly I was headed. There were some pretty windy / steep roads as well just FYI. Once I got there, parking was a bit weird - they have only 2 spots and the rest is street parking. The staff was really friendly and helped me get a table + order as being solo made it a little awkward to do both simultaneously. I had a stacked smoked salmon salad on homemade stout bread, along with a glass of white wine (I forget what kind), and a sesame chocolate. I sat outside at the corner table enjoying the view of the bay... they delivered my wine and chocolate together (I felt like my Eat Pray Love journey was just too obvious at this point) and both were delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of smoked salmon - I tend to think the smoke flavor is usually too much. But this salad + smoked salmon was perfect. Everything balanced really well together and it was PLENTY of food, I could not finish it... (but I finished the chocolate, duh). As it is a bit off of the main path, I'm not sure I would return... but I DO NOT REGRET my visit! You'll thank yourself for making the stop - do it! :D

I got to taste some amazing homemade, artisan chocolate, get some gifts to bring home, and enjoy the most wonderful hot chocolate EVER! The hot chocolate was made with care and a personal touch. The location is worth the stop on it's own. It has an amazing view over the water, and a beautiful Zen garden in the back.
