She made sure that I wasn't losing too much of my outer layer appliqué from the hem, the bustle was secure, and she added horse hair hem on the inner layers to allow the dress to fan out. The work was just fine, but I would not come again. I asked her to separate a dress into 2 pieces. I had told her what I wanted at the initial visit, then she gave me a price. The actual separating didn't turn out how I wanted, as I wanted the skirt to have a band so when worn together it still looked like 1 dress. But she had already sewed the zipper in and also indicated anything else would cost more. My bigger concern was she took out a seam on the top, which left basically rips down the sides. I noticed it at my 3rd fitting, but thought it would be fixed. It wasn't. When I pointed out all the loose threads and the lack of fabric integrity she told me it was not a big deal because it was the side, and asked how I would reinforce it. How would I know? I am not a seamstress. During the whole process when I asked for thoughts on the dress or alteration she would say "I don't know" and shrug like I should already know. I told her I was worried about the fabric and she appeared frustrated and said that it was an alteration. I understand that, but it just doesn't look finished. She then said if I could find the exact beads I could do beading to cover it but it would be a lot of work. I'd already sourced a hard to find zipper (I brought 2 and had to request to get the unused one back), and honestly I can do the beadwork myself. I've attached photos. There were also multiple times where she said to come in but the door was locked and I would call multiple times just waiting at the door. Basia does excellent work, responds quickly, and is so accommodating! She hemmed and altered the shoulders of a gown I wore to my boyfriend's sister's wedding and again on my birthday in Rome. She make shoulders that were way too big creatively more petite by taking material from the hem and using it to cinch the shoulders. Everything was done perfectly. Barbara is amazing! I had both a traditional gown to shorten and take in at the bust but also a second Chinese dress to take in at the waist. She did both with perfection and even incorporated some of her own design to adjust a mesh layer over my white gown (not pictured). Her studio is very clean and she has got a real eye for dresses and what looks good. Very professional and timely. I got my dresses back in about 3.5 weeks after my first fitting and prices were reasonable; less than $300 for both dresses. I have never written a review and I hate that my first review is from an awful experience. I arrived ON TIME to my appointment at 4pm. By 4:10pm, another party shows up and Basia immediately accuses me of coming at the wrong time. She then anxiously proceeds to finish up with me, like as if when the other party came in, my appointment was done. She looked outwardly irritated if I asked more questions. Didn't give me time to even think. She took the first chance she could to have me go back in the dressing area, unzip my wedding dress, and close the curtain so I could change back into the clothes I came in with. At this point I am livid. After I change back to my clothes, I tell her that I understand YOU accidentally double booked but it took me a lot of time and money to come to this appointment and I feel like I'm being rushed out of here. Her response was "no one is complaining". And then a half-ass apology while she's rolling her eyes that she's sorry I feel rushed. When we were talking about payment, she asked me how I was going to pay. I figured credit card or Venmo, but she had neither. I did not bring cash, which she apparently expected me to magically know. To be fair, I have no experience on her actual work as a seamstress since I left with my dress unaltered. But I have firsthand experience on her pathetic customer service. read more

This is the best tailor i've been to. I'm so glad i found this tailor shop! Barbara loves her work and it shows. I had taken some blazers and dressers to a dry cleaner who claimed to offer tailoring services but did a poor job. I took the items to Barbara. She reversed what the dry cleaner had done and made additional alterations to improve the fit. All of my clothes fit beautifully! Barbara is very knowledge, pleasant and professional. She provided great customer service, offering fabric and buttons from her own inventory to meet my needs. Also, her studio is very spacious, comfortable and clean. She was quick to respond to my request and we easily scheduled an appointment so that she would have plenty of time to do the work on my intricately beaded gown.
