Nilah and Co did an amazing job on all my wedding attire. I had an awful alterations experience at my bridal salon where they had just messed up the dress in many areas. I was in need of someone to fix their mistakes and make me like the dress again. Nilah did just that. She got it to fit well and was able to undo some of the mistakes the original tailor made and it was such a relief when I put it on and liked it again. I was thrilled that Nilah's office is located about a mile from my home in Havertown, PA. Jennifer worked with me to set up appointments, provide pricing for accessories, and answer any questions that I may have had. She always greeted me and my guests at the door with a smile. When my schedule got a bit crazy, Jennifer patiently provided options for dates and times for fittings. She is an asset to Nilah's business! Nilah herself was incredible - she made my gown into exactly what I pictured, and it fit PERFECTLY the day of the wedding. Nilah was able to change the bodice of the gown into a sweetheart shape, something I really wanted from the beginning, with no problem. When I ordered my wedding gown, I had originally planned to have the alterations performed by the in-house seamstress. Fast forward to 3 months before the wedding when the dress arrives, and the in-house seamstress has quit (due to medical reasons). Lovely. I called Nilah based on the reviews I had read. Jennifer assured me that there was enough time to do the work and that they could fit me in her schedule. I didn't have a lot that needed to be done: sew in cups, hem a few inches, put in a bustle. Nilah did an amazing job with my gown and I couldn't have been happier! My dress fit like a glove and my bustle was gorgeous (double french). I was a little bit concerned about the cups, but that's because my dress was backless and I wasn't used to the feeling of them. My bridesmaids said time and again that it was probably one of the easiest bustles they've ever tied. During the consultation, Nilah suggested a veil (she makes and sells them), but it didn't feel like "me." The dress was a couple sizes larger than me, and somehow, she made it fit like a glove. It was perfect!! Nilah also made my veil. I had expressed a few small details I was looking for in a veil and she took it from there. From the alterations of my dress there was some lace left over, and she used that to trim the bottom of my veil. It was beautiful! More amazing than anything I had seen out at bridal shops. Nilah did a fantastic job on two bridesmaids dresses I brought to her last year. She was extremely honest with me on what we could do versus what we should do - and even talked me out of getting a whole custom made dress (despite it meaning more profit for her!) when a similar dress could be found for much less expensive and then modified to be exactly what I wanted. Additionally she knows what fits on a body and what style would look good - one bride chose spaghetti strap dress for a bunch of plus-size bridesmaids. Not a good choice. In tailoring my dress, Nilah was able to make another suggestion on how the straps could be modified which we carried to all the bridesmaids and we all looked FANTASTIC! Bought my dress in NY from Kleinfeld's and it needed to be brought in several sizes and it was super long on me. I knew I was bringing the dress in under the wire [barely 3 months till the wedding date]. She didn't make me feel bad at all for bringing it in when I did. Nilah and Company did an amazing job altering two dresses for my wedding in November 2013. They were recommended to me by the store from which I purchased my gown (The Sample Rack in Philadelphia). My traditional gown had a skirt with floral-like petals all over and she hemmed it to keep them intact. She also altered my reception dress which was a formal gown from Macy's with an embroidered overlay on the bottom half with a slit halfway up the gown. The timing of the fittings were perfect as I needed to have them both taken in more than planned initially. She also had a nice selection of jewelry from which I chose two pair of earrings that I wore on the day of my wedding. She did not pressure me into having my sample dress dry cleaned prior to alterations and her judgement that it would look beautiful in pictures was spot on. I really wanted to be able to write an amazing review because Nilah was courteous, professional and knowledgeable... but 3 days before my wedding I was left with an unwearable dress. I had high hopes after Nilah was recommended by The Sample Rack and reading reviews online. I was making some rather extensive alterations to my dress, and Nilah instilled in me every confidence that it would be possible and beautiful. Sadly, almost every aspect of the dress they altered was executed poorly. Despite three smooth appointments (aside from a scheduling mistake on their end which they corrected at the last minute), the final dress was riddled with mistakes. Huge mistakes. Glaring errors that, if it had not been for my mother in law who is a seamstress, I would have been embarrassed to wear my wedding dress. Three of the mistakes (gaping zipper, lumpy sash and long/uneven bustle) were compounded by the wrong lace being added to the top of my dress-- it was a different pattern and color although we were promised many times that it could be matched exactly. I will compliment Nilah as the ultimate professional because she granted me a refund for the mistaken work. But that kind of workmanship is inexcusable. read more

Being the small busted girl that I am, the perfect prom dress wasn't always as simple for me as one may think. Especially since 9 out of 10 times the chest of a dress was always too big! So I picked Nilah to alter my wedding dresses by reading prior reviews online about her reasonable prices. I also agree about her reasonable prices as I called around, granted the price she quoted me was a little high because there was a rush fee included, but that was totally reasonable. At my first fitting, everything fit perfectly, I was shocked. Even though I didn't notice anything, she saw an issue with my bustle and added more loops. I was ready to pick up my dress but my mother wanted to see me in the dress, so we were back to try on again. Nilah was accommodating, and offered to sew on my wedding sash accessory to the dress. However, an issue came up during my fittings at Elizabeth Johns - there was this pretty noticeable bulge at my waist that the seamstress at Elizabeth Johns insisted was just part of the dress. It was extremely frustrating - there was no problem solving on their end so I called Nilah, assuming she would turn me away because she was busy with the influx of brides due to COVID. I'm assuming that any tailor who has experience altering wedding dresses knows that one small eye hook will not provide enough support to keep a multiple-layer strapless wedding dress on. Apparently, Nilah does not... The eye hook on my dress busted open a couple minutes after putting my wedding dress on, and the zipper would not stay up... It was an utter nightmare. [NOTE: I lost 3 pounds since the last fitting, which was one week before my wedding, so the dress malfunction is not due to weight gain.] Fortunately, I was able to get in contact with my relatives at home, who drove out to sew the dress onto my body for the rest of the day. It stayed up pretty well, but I couldn't stop being paranoid that my dress would end up on the ground if I made any sudden moves.
