Basic Cut is a small barbershop located in the International District. It is co-located in a space shared with a gift and stationery shop, Zakka-Ya. If you are coming here on a Monday or Tuesday, you must knock on the door to access the barbershop as Zakka-Ya is not open on those days. This is because Basic Cut is located upstairs within Zakka-Ya. The barbershop prices are very affordable. I got a men's haircut here for $23 plus tip which is a good deal since I am used to paying $30+ plus tip for a haircut on the Eastside unless I am going to a Great Clips. Note this is a one-person barber so I would suggest coming on a slower day like Monday or Tuesday or scheduling an appointment ahead of time if you don't want to wait. Given the price and the quality of the cut that I received here, I would return to Basic Cut for a future haircut. read more

Kim runs this one-person barber operation for 20+ years and she knows what she is doing. I love the ability to just sit at her chair and chat. With her practicality focused and very Asian-style decor, she is an open book who would share her life story in a wise-person-sharing-their-wisdom way. Despite Kim being very chatty, she is also a very good listener. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for and she was able to immediately map out what to do in her mind and ask clarification questions for my preference and at the same time offer her suggestions with reasoning. My hair has been tricky for most western trained barbers/stylists but not for Kim. When I was there, four more customers showed up and were waiting in line. Her skill was obviously validated! She really didn't ask me what I wanted other than to ascertain the hair length I desired. She gave what "all guys want these days." But in the end, it turned out good, a testament to her skill. No nonsense, just a good haircut at very reasonable price. Tina is efficient and detailed oriented. She spent just the right amount of time to get my cut right. Since I'm in Seattle for a few months, I had to find a reasonably priced barber. I stumbled upon Basic Cut when I Googled "International District Barber." I'm glad this establishment came up. It's located on Jackson Street. You knock on the door and someone will admit you to go upstairs. She was efficient and didn't rush her craft. It was shorter than I'm use to, but others told me it looked great. The price was $19, but knowing how much I saved, I gave her $25. I'll be back. read more

I needed a haircut before I flew back home to Maryland, and came here based on the good reviews here on Yelp. Kim was fantastic; I showed her a picture of me pre-pandemic and she worked her magic. My hair is not easy to work with... It is thick and dense, and very straight. It's even harder to deal with when I haven't cut it in a year and a half. It was no problem for Kim! i came in asking for a long hair LAYERED hair cut. i gave her an image on how to do my hair and she not only cut my hair short without notifying me that she has to cut it short, ( mind you my hair was at half of my back, and my hair currently is up to shoulder length) but she made my hair really uneven. one side is way longer than the other side attempting to give out the "layers". if she cannot do it, i would've liked her to confront me about it before she messed up my hair. instead, i wasted my money and time getting there. now my hair is fucked up because of her so i definitely do not recommend getting your haircut here. read more

Great place to get a cut without all the corporate gimmicks like the chain shops. The lady that cut my hair was super nice and had been in the neighborhood for years. I had read the reviews first so I knew to bring cash. It was only $11 and I gave her an extra $3 because I look so young and handsome now.
