This place is a total find! I usually stick to my local grocery store, but the selection here is on a different level. They have a fantastic range of hard-to-find craft spirits and a wine wall that isn't just the "usual suspects." The staff clearly knows their stuff--I asked for a dry Riesling recommendation under $25 and they pointed me toward a bottle that blew my guests away. Ducked in a little shopping center on 231 just NW if Dothan, it might appear small but is packed full of specialty wines, champagnes, seasonal beers and even has a small cigar selection with looking at. All I wanted was a good bourbon for my brother in law. The man working the counter could not have been less helpful. He offered no advice other than pointing to the direction of the bourbon amidst a clutter of cases and cases of stacked boxes of alcohol and when I brought two up to get price checked he told me one was $150 and the other was $50. I went with the cheaper one but was still on the lookout for a specific bottle that my brother in law was looking for. Went to another store to find out that I had been swindled and the bottle I bought was $20 cheaper elsewhere and the other store had the "$150" bottle for $30. For the exact same bourbon! He's a sleezeball! Do not go to his establishment if you value quality and customer service! What a crook. read more

There is, however, absolutely no organization and prices aren't marked, so it's like the world's most awesome yard sale; you rummage around randomly, and when you find something you like, take it to the cashier and get a price check. The strore is rather cramped, but that's because its filled with an array of wines and beer (a little light on the hard liquor side). Their domestic beer six pack prices are comperable with Walgreens/gas stations, but they do have a large selection of European and American craft beers. Be careful though! Basket of Cheer does not display prices for most of these beers and you can ring upwards of $40 for a four pack. If you like niche beers, this is your spot. The wine selection was extensive, especially for lower Alabama. As I mentioned earlier, there's not a ton of liquor for sale, but they do have all the essentials, as well as some surprises. I got my dad a sampler pack of Glenmorangie Scotch, pretty cool and it's something I hadn't seen anywhere else. Staff is helpful, location is good- all in all, its a liquor store. read more

I. Love. This. Place! I wish I had known of this place two years ago when O first started getting serious about mixing classic drinks at home. Many of the classic beverages I want to try require hard to find, obscure spirits tat the local ABC just can't get. Since discovering this place just two weeks ago, I've spent more money than is probably prudent in this place and now my liquor cabinet is nicely stocked. I can now make Vespers, Negronis, Hanky Panky, and Campari spritz...life is good! Rocky seems to be truly dedicated to making his customers happy and I appreciate his willingness to order speciality beverages (such as green chartreuse) and urgent syrup...for a healthy price of course ;) As someone else mentioned, I too wish prices were displayed on products, but I usually have an idea about how much items will cost, so it isn't a huge problem. Still though, it would be helpful. All in all, this is the proverbial "hidden gem". Found cider boys grand mimosa tucked in the corner...but while I was looking found some other treasures to try! Really cool liquor store! Stopped in on our drive from Atlanta to the coast. Very glad we made this stop! Very nice selection of wines and spirits. Even better selection of beers. Make sure you walk through the cooler as this is where the most magical of beers reside. I also spent a few minutes chatting with the owner, Rocky who made sure I found what I was looking for. We drive 40 minutes just to show up to a store that was closed. The hours on yelp showed it opening at 10AM and Google said 11AM. Well, at 1125 AM we are still waiting and no one is around. There are no posted hours on the door. I'm just overall frustrated because I know they have the best selection of beer around but their work ethic is garbage. Do not shop in this Wine Store!! The owner is rude and condescending. I accidentally knocked over a bottle - because the store is crazy crowded - and the owner made us pay for it. I'm sure they break things many times and write it off!! I've never had a store insist that we pay for something that we accidentally broke! I was a good and loyal customer of Basket of Cheer. One day, I accidentally bumped into a wine stand and broke four bottles of wine. I would have gladly paid his wholesale cost. However; the owner made me pay full price for six. I was not happy. The owner also is very cunning. Beware of pricing tactics in this store. A majority of the wine bottles are not priced with a tag. This way, if he knows you are affluent or have money, he charges you twice the price as someone else. These events made turn to Spirits, which has better pricing. read more

Visiting Dothan and wanted to shop local to buy a bottle or two of wine, and while it seemed like there was a wide selection, the store was not well organized, and--most importantly--there are hardly any prices on the wine. Sorry, but price is one of the biggest factors when buying a bottle of wine, and I'm not going to take each one up individually to get scanned to know whether it's $15 or $35. For staters, yes I am of legal age to drink, however I do appear at first glance to be much younger than I am. Upon walking in the store, I head near the back to the fridges and automatically overhear 3 workers in the back freezers saying "Oh we got a underager that just walked in, someone go out and watch him". I realize I may look 15 still, but how dare you. How do you expect to continue serving costumes when you judge them and not give them the respect they deserve as soon as they walk in the store? And out loud at that. Seeing as they did not have what I was looking for in their selection I decided to leave. After walking out of the store I was immediately halted from another worker from the store to come back in, as the clerk at the front desk wanted to speak to me. Again, this is WAY after I walked out of the store. The clerk wished to see my ID and I presented it to him as he gave snarky reactions to it as if it was a fake. I have not been treated this badly and disrespected before in any other shop. I won't be visiting here again. An attitude adjustment is greatly in order here. read more
