Bassé is a Canadian, family-run business that specializes in the roasting of nuts and dried fruits. They use the Mediterranean method to roast their nuts/fruits, thus allowing their products to maintain their freshness and taste. They are open to the public and sell a wide variety of nuts ranging from pine nuts and almonds to pecans and Brazil nuts. An added bonus is that for some of their nut varieties, they offer multiple options such as unsalted, slightly salted and salted. If you're not sure what you want, that's OK - they offer a few mixed nut varieties that are sure to please everyone. They also sell seeds (pumpkin etc.), dried fruits, tea and Middle Eastern chocolate. You can purchase their nuts in a variety of formats, however I always opt for bulk because I can see what the nuts look like in the display! As well, this allows you to select what you want by weight. I have found their prices to be very reasonable, particularly since what you are buying is freshly roasted. The quality of their nuts is superior and you can absolutely taste the difference between store-bought nuts and these. In order to keep my nuts fresh, I follow their suggestion to keep them in the freezer. My personal favorites: Raw pecans, raw almonds, unsalted pistachios, raw hazelnuts.
You can occasionally find pre-packaged nuts in certain shops, and Costco carries a huge bag of raw hazelnuts.
