Pros: Good jazz music if you are into that. I went early on Sat, so there were no crowds, $2 all day parking on spothero.com! Right next to Pfister Hotel. Just enter the address and don't get ripped off for parking. This isn't Chicago, so parking is supposed to be cheap. Cut looking plastic dragons for sale, very unique. Cons: I think I made a mistake going in the day. There was only 1 wandering artist. See pic. Also, I tried a lot of the Milwaukee area food restaurants on my shortlisted list that were at the festival, but everything was mediocre sadly.

What more could I say? I anticipate arriving at Bastille Days to celebrate the cuisine, fashion and of course music inspired by French/Creole culture. Nibbled on the "real alligator bites" from Crawdaddys. "YOU ARE VERY BRAVE" stated a festival goer while staring at my dish & in response I just laughed. There were a host of French/Louisiana menu items at several pop up eateries. Christopher's Project jazz band played well. The tunes were relaxing. There was a posse of clown characters dressed in vintage French costumes making the rounds at the fest. The Eiffel tower replica was the top attraction!

Bastille Days West is a much smaller version of the original, and entered around Charles E Fromace wine bar in the Heights. If you haven't been to CEF, drop everything and GO RIGHT NOW. Anyway, this new fest is several blocks of Westside fun - kids activities, bands, Robin Pluer, street performers and more. Lots of French wi e from Valentine, CEF and the Draft. Cocktails and beer too! Bring your kids, bring your dog, chill with your neighbors. They definitely needed a few food trucks to round it out but this is one of the 10,000 reasons I love the Heights!

After living in Wisconsin my entire life, I finally made it to Bastille Days. The food was delicious, but there wasn't much else to do there. Here's a list of everything we tried... Beignets: They were fluffy, golden, and had plenty of powdered sugar. If you've had beignets at Café du Monde in New Orleans, these seem pretty mediocre in comparison. However, if you've never had a beignet before, this will give you a pretty good idea of what they're supposed to taste like. Crème Brûlée: Absolutely delicious! You really can't get $5.00 crème brûlée anywhere else. I appreciated how the crust on top was more golden than burnt, which I've had a problem with other crème brûlées in the past. The custard was creamy and smooth. Saz's Sampler Platter: If you're ever presented with the opportunity to try Saz's sour cream and chive fries, take it. They are so flavorful and crispy. The cheese curds were delicious, but the mozzarella sticks were just okay. Crêpes: You really can't go wrong with ice cream wrapped in a crêpe and topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The Mosaic Crêpe had mint chocolate chip ice cream and paired surprisingly nicely with the thin and soft crêpe. The Mocha Ambrosia Crêpe had a coffee flavored ice cream filling and it was divine. Coffee + Crêpes = Pure Bliss. Tarot Reading: I visited Tammi Kapitanski from Remedy Within for a tarot reading. I had never done this before, and it was so fun and interesting. Tammi provided some great insight. It ran me $30.00 for the reading and it was well worth it - and she accepts Venmo! The reason Bastille Days only gets 3/5 stars is because there's not much else to do besides eat. There are a few shops, but they're reminiscent of things you'd see at the Wisconsin State Fair - some jewelry, some patterned skirts, some art. It was nice that the two music stages had artists of very different genres, but I think they could've done with one more musical act somewhere else on the grounds. Slightly more seating would have been nice as well. I was really disappointed that they didn't have their usual replica of the Eiffel Tower. This year it was only an inflatable. Hopefully they bring back the true replica next year. If you're trying to decide whether or not to go to Bastille Days, I'd try it out. And definitely go get your tarot read by Tammi - that made my experience at Bastille Days a little more interesting.

Staying at a near by hotel, we saw a festival out of the window so we thought we'd check it out.... even though it was on a Sunday, it was really not that busy. There were a lot of various booths - very few booths celebrating the French culture. Of course, the first booth we encountered was for Tarot reading. No comment.... People watching was very interesting.....overall meh.

An excellent Milwaukee festival. Bastille days is a festival that always kicks off with a 5k run which starts at 9 pm which is pretty cool. There aren't many nighttime runs in Milwaukee. There is an abundance of french inspired foods and treats as well as some Frenchie puppies. They install a miniature Eiffel Tower in the center for your viewing pleasure. They offer a large handful of vendors selling homemade goods, Bastille Day apparel and much much more. There is different live music throughout the entire festival and plenty of other entertainment throughout the grounds. Truly just a well-done festival that is definitely worth checking out!

I ended over here Friday and Saturday had a chance to watch a few bands walk around got mesmerized by the miniature Eiffel tower? no just the Huge line long line for beignet and coffee. I really don't get the Why??? Is it Powdered sugar on top? Or is it something else?? more addictive...sniff sniff. Plenty of people and dog watching to be done. They also had a lady with stilts performing with an assistant on a pole. I still wonder how it would be to fall from that height. I seen many people wearing stripped shirts and beret it was a chance to walk around the whole time looking for "something to do" Did you know that under the Eiffel tower there was chalk art see picture. Parking can be hectic but if you go later its easier to find spots verses day time. http://instagram.com/p/bwNWJtvkWz/ It's a fun festival with on going music simultaneously on 4 stages over 4 days. Right next to my customer's office is one end of the amazing Bastille Days street festival, which kicked off today and runs all weekend along Kilbourn Street from the corner of Broadway and continuing east a bit. Beautiful weather today, please stop by! You'll find all sorts of vendors with creative items on sale - hats, jewelry, scarves, sarongs, wood carvings, tshirts and posters. And the food from tons of local restaurants - oddly, Mexican. But loads of French- and Cajun-themed stuff, like crepes (yum!), French cheeses, croque monsieurs, beignets and whatnot. Of course, tons of entertainment on several different stages. A great Jazz band was playing at one. I watched the Can-can girls for a bit, but I think I might have looked a bit like a creeper so I moved on (no, there was nothing to see. They're all properly covered up).. A mime with a hula-hoop earned a dollar from me in her collection "hat". Yep, there's beer there too. And I absolutely did NOT have a beer with my French dip sandwich (go for the "loaded" with mushrooms and cheese) at lunch time. Nope. Did not have a delicious cold Stella Artois at all. And hey, it's totally FREE to wander and look and enjoy!

I kissed a Frenchie at lunch!

Bastille Days was literally right outside my front door and I loved every minute. Here are a few of my favorites of this free festival: 1. Kiss the Frenchie! Adorable French Bulldogs are available for gettin your pet fix on for a donation to a local rescue of these adorable dogs. Love a chance to snuggle for a second and make a new friend! 2. Saz's streetside dining. Good food, service and a chance to sit down and enjoy a tasty bite in a moment away from the madness. 3. Diet Lemonade. Watch 'em squeeze your own personally made thirst-quenching cup. So yummy. 4. Music stage outside Flannery's. I don't know who conceived this brilliant plan but I give them props for getting it done. 5. Too Much Rock For One Hand.T-shirts. A great way to #shoplocal for your t-shirts and support a great artist at the same time. 6. See The Hop! Yep, it was on-site and available for public tours. As where I work and live are on the line, I will probably use it from time to time so I'm glad I had the chance to tour and volunteered for a test drive! 7. Casablanca. Non-French, I know, but offering some delicious healthy fare at a street festival. Thanks for the choices! I could go on and on, I've barely skimmed the surface of what makes this free festival so fun. All I can say is go to watch people and be open to new experiences. So awesome!

This is always fun! Came here for lunch the first day of the event. Walked around and looked at the shopping, trying to decide where to eat. The vibe here is great - of my favorite downtown events!

still up there near the top of the Milwaukee summer festivals for me. Thursday its always crazy busy because of the 9 pm storm the Bastille 5k (if you've never done it - do it!) its probably my favorite 5k of all time. people running thru the streets of downtown after nightfall, crowds spilling out of bars to cheer everyone on...you will really feel some revolutionary fervor! Saturday is usually pretty busy all day because well, Saturday. Sunday is usually the most lowkey day and you can often get deals from the merchants. Regarding the merchandise theres a lot of nice quality stuff in a small space. Theres also tarot card readers, a French bulldog kissing booth, mimes, sword swallowers. While they don't usually book big names musically, there are several stages to keep people entertained. For whatever it's worth theres also always plenty of portopottys (sometimes it's the little things!) Lastly, two huge improvements I noticed this year: - lots and lots of French food options. there used to be beignets and then basically pizza, burgers, brats but now the food seems pretty French-Belgian-cajun and overall was delicious - the street car stops in the middle of the festival! no more walking a mile back to your car (or for some of us, home.) C'est magnifique!

    Eiffel Tower Replica by MSOE

Bastille Days is always a good time. Despite the fact that parking can be a huge pain (be warned - you may have to park up to a mile away from the festival), it is a pretty amazing FREE event. Especially if you love people watching and window shopping. They have pretty yummy food too - many local restaurants have food tents and it's always fun to try something new. You must get a photo by the Eiffel Tower replica - it's pretty dang cool. The Storm The Bastille 5k is always Thursday evening, opening day of the festival. It is fun, but can be really crowded. It is a good fun run, but I don't recommend it for the competitive runner. I *highly* recommend visiting the Saz's tent they set up on Jefferson over by Elsa's for mojito. Maybe it was the atmosphere, or the bartenders, but it was most certainly one of the BEST mojitos I have ever had. Just fantastic. Wish I had one right now.... The crowd can get a little mature (i.e. really enjoying their drinks) later in the evening so I would recommend bringing kids early and let the adults have their fun later on in the evening ;)

Bastille Days = one of MKE's largest (FREE) outdoor street festivals. Get your France-y pants on, Milwaukee. For real though: great food vendors, fab entertainment (I saw a guy juggling knives, and another juggling FIRE ON A UNICYCLE!), awesome local arts/crafts/stuff for purchase, etc. It doesn't hurt that Yelp was there too, getting the good word out. AND WE WERE NEXT TO THE FRENCH BULLDOG RESCUE. (I die.) Storm the Bastille, great activities for kids, a giant but not so giant as the real thing Eiffel Tower, stellar bands, and loads and loads of four-one-four fun. Who could ask for more?

Bonus points for having an NA beer option available and easier to locate this year! Lots of great food and drink options available, as always. The very high prices for food and beverages are a bit of a bummer. At least dropping the price of bottled water would be a nice move. Since we know what to expect with prices, we tend to just eat before and then enjoy on something fun vs have our whole meal there, and avoid the super pricey drinks. Our favorite things to do every year are to take stroll by the lakefront, ride the sky glider, enjoy a "famous" Saz's sampler platter together, and of course catch lots of live music. We tend to splurge and park in a well-lit lot close by so it's easy in and easy out, but we've also taken the Connect bus from Tosa in the past. We were with a group of nine people on a Friday night, and surprisingly it was easy to get through the crowds. We really enjoyed checking out this years vendors scattered about, stopping at various small stages to see the acts, and of course indulging in food and drink. Are prices astronomical, however? Beyond. Definitely be prepared to spend plenty of money - a simple canned beer or slice of pizza will set ya back. I was impressed with how quick the entrance process was on this visit. I feel like the staff was on point keeping things swift, safe, and easy. Parking on the other hand is always a tough one, so highly rec taking a shuttle from a local bar/restaurant (which is what we did). The easiest and cheapest option for sure! It's honestly great to see the tourism this fest brings to Milwaukee, and all of the local love it shares. Definitely puts our wonderful city on the map.

If you're looking for all the great German beer, German music, and German cuisine, this is your place! It's so fun to see how many attendees dress to theme in their lederhosens, dirndls, and hats. Some of the staff dress up as well, and of course those preforming on stage! We came to find out this isn't the greatest fest to take young kids, as the crowds are big, the lines are long, and the music (be it so fun and festive), is really loud. I'm sure we would have stayed longer if it was an adult-only trip. In any case, the food and drink are fare price. I'm now regretting not ordering the traditional pretzel and sausage options, but splitting a tasty platter of tenders and fries with my son hit the spot. Being pregnant, I'm not drinking, but friends we were with has nothing but great things to say about their German pints. The beer steins are of course an option which is a fun touch. Hot tip: if you can book a table reservation ahead of time, do so! That's what we did and it was a good call since this place is poppin. Happy official Fall! Enjoy!

Makes you wonder why you had not done this before. Everybody brings a cooler or a basket with food; and the event organizers kindly ask that you purchase your beverages with the vendors. That's how the can make a profit and support the event (makes sense). Drinks are about $6 per cup. This is my first "Jazz in the Park" and I'll definitely come better prepared next time. Besides my chair, I'll bring a book (for the wait) and snacks! There weren't really many options this time. Happy "Jazz in the Park"! Fun fact: "Jazz in the Park" has its own mascot! You can see it dancing around the park. Great for kids!

I didn't start going to jazz until i moved away from Cathedral Square (well, so I'm 12 blocks away now instead of 1 block,) but I still feel like this is my neighborhood gettogether (as opposed to say, chill on the hill or tosa tonight.) So in the interest of repping home base and all, I have to increase it to 5 stars. That, and really, does summer in milwaukee get any better than sitting on the grass in cathedral square with a bottle of wine (Louises will even deliver a whole pizza to your staked out spot,) or roaming the grounds with a watermelon mojito in hand? I think not. It's always better the hotter the weather gets. There's all kinds of other stuff available for purchase, from kettle corn to beer and wine to tacos to risotto! And you'll see all sorts of milwaukee and neighborhood characters here for good measure. Disclaimer: the music and performers are generally very good...but I'm just more there for the festive atmosphere. Be sure to stop in one of the neighboring restaurants or bars around the square before or definitely after Jazz in the Park ends for the full effect. See you there!

And so marks that time of year when all things Wisconsin are on the up and up. It's time to enjoy the warmer weather and hopefully it's dry out. This 2019 Solstice was a dry one despite the long wind up to summer we've all been waiting for. Eastside Summer Soulstice is a particular great event and this year would prove to be one of the best. Why you say, because there are so many new businesses on this corridor of street corners where all roads East intersect. Hacienda Beer, Crossroads Collective and it's many restaurants inside and so on... Plus, all of some of Wisconsin's finest vendors all on the closed of streets and all in the mix. This event is dog friendly and people watching equipped. The sun was shining and although not hot it was a perfect temp to relax and enjoy all this city has to offer. We sat at Hacienda outside and people watched, listened to the 88.9 stage and ate food with our pooch soaking up the sun. Cheers to Summer Soulstice!

Three well-spaced stages of great local music is the big ticket hang, here. Besides the great local music there's a good selection of quality Makers showing here, and an okay but not great selection of beer (would like to see more local craft on tap or in cans). I liked that Landmark and Von Trier and other places had bars set up outside. Great local MKE festival.
