It is off the beaten path and the best way to find it is with a tour guide (usually in a dune buggy, because the trails are a bit challenging and the area is sometimes frequented by bandits). Depending on your source, it was constructed either in 1725 or as late as 1789 under the auspices of the Carmelite Order. It was constructed of limestone and sandstone. When and why it was abandoned is unknown. Its most striking feature (besides the architecture) is the encroaching rainforest, especially one large tree that envelopes one corner of the ruins, both inside and out.
