This is a cute little pocket park that is located along an active railroad track. There is a small…read morewhite gazebo and a couple of picnic tables in the grass. The park features a train car that is in pretty good shape. The car has painted silhouettes in the window and even though you cannot go into the car, you can climb on it. It is a very clean park and there is free street and lot parking within a reasonable walking distance. I had my little with me and he badly wanted to see a train go through. Unfortunately, on weekends there may be two trains to go through at the most. Weekdays may give you a better opportunity to see a train roll through. As I mentioned, this is a very small park. I would say about a quarter of an acre. You also probably wont spend a lot of time here, but I still like it. It is a very nice place to take a load off while in Franklin's business district or if you want to see a train go by, up close and personal.

It is a nice resting point if you're walking to the various shops along Jefferson Street. The park lawn and landscaping is well maintained with hostas, flowering plants and grasses, a cute white gazebo and a locked caboose to visit. Fun photo op for kids or adults. The caboose has fun silhouettes of passengers in the windows. If you'd like to enjoy a beverage while you rest there is a convenient shop right next door across the tracks to grab a beverage and snack. A perfect small town park to take a break at or entertain the kids for a few minutes.

Garton also served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-1957. The Plaza, which honors Garton, sits slightly north of the Robert Stewart Bridge in Columbus. The most notable feature of the plaza is a large nine ton metal and concrete sculpture. The artist, Peter Lundberg, named the sculpture, Daquqi, from a Rumi poem. The Plaza is not easily accessed. There is no parking. There is a sidewalk, but there are no cross walks across the busy highway. The Plaza is in need of love. While the grounds were mowed, the area was weedy and the plaza sign needed cleaning.

This is a very nice bike/skate park located between Youngs Creek Park and Province Park. It is one…read moreof the better ones that I have seen and is well maintained. It has about 7 structures for shredding including quarter pipes, spines, flat banks, half-pyramids, hips, fly boxes, ledges, and boxes, some of which are put together into some very interesting obstacle combinations. The park's mini ramp is about 6ft. tall and approx. 8ft wide The park has an ample amount of parking spots available and unfortunately is known for severe flooding. Even though the park dates back to 2008, it looks new, because technically it is. It had to be rebuilt a couple of times due to flooding. Thank goodness for insurance. The park is also very well maintained. The obstacles are constructed of ARC-sourced prefab steel. They are very sturdy. It should also be noted that it is not lighted, nor fenced in. They also do not have restroom facilities either. There is a picnic table off to the side of the park to sit and take a break or eat some lunch. I am what you would call a poser in the skate world, but I do know a good skate park when I see it. This is a very good skate park and I like it a lot. This is a destination action park, located in the small town of Franklin, right behind the police department, that I highly recommend checking out if you are looking for a nice place to shred.

There is also a playground for the littler kids that is conveniently located next to the shelter. The shelter is equipped with a grill, picnic tables, and a garbage can. However, I didn't see any restrooms on site. One of the things I discovered was that about midway up Carver Street, there is a ramp for cars to drive down to a paved parking area surrounded by trees. It's nice that the parks department provided a spot for the parents of the participants of the sports activities. The park seemed to be in pretty good shape and although there had been rain recently, the fields looked in good shape too without any standing water. Seems like a decent park for the neighborhood. Cute and charming!…read more Lots of interesting architecture for such a small town, but with an interesting history. My fave brewery in on the outskirts of town so I come through regularly. Worth a visit, a little day trip.
