I LOVE the Mercantile!! It's clean and organized, lots of fun finds and various different kinds of…read morethings being sold, I saw no temu / fast fashion JUNK so super pleased with that! I also appreciate that they market themselves as a "Mercantile" and not an "antique store," as many "antique stores" sell a bunch of non-antiques which is frustrating, so I'm grateful for the straightforward and clear marketing! The tea room in the back is super cute, there'll be a separate review for that. I found a couple of darling things for good prices that I'm very excited for, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see several staff members roaming the store, with one kind woman offering to hold our items up front while we shop! This is a 5/5 AMAZING example of what all of these types of shops should be. I will be back with friends!

Updating this review from a year ago. We had previously taken my mother-in-law to the Mercantile…read moreand she found some things she liked so for Mother's Day we decided we were gonna shop for her here. Everything I said about this place in my previous review, still rings true but they do have a lot of clothing that older women find appealing. So we found a beautiful smock blouse, long and floaty in a nice bright red and we brought it up to the counter. It was $160 plus with tax and all the girl did was wad up in a ball and stuff in a bag , but she even had to ask if we wanted a bag. Really these people don't care about what they're selling behind the counter I was appalled Do we want a bag? Did you think we were gonna wear it out? And what of the merchants there wouldn't they appreciate having their stock treated a little bit better with a little bit more respect.?

As someone new to the area, one thing I've noticed quickly is how exhausting it feels to walk into…read morecertain businesses and immediately feel stereotyped because of the actions of other people. I spent close to $200 during my visit, yet I was followed around the store and treated with suspicion instead of respect. Every time I asked a question, I felt irritation from staff instead of basic customer service. There's a huge difference between being attentive and making customers feel uncomfortable, and unfortunately this experience leaned heavily toward the latter. What bothered me most is that I watched this happen not only to me, but to loyal customers as well. While I was there, a woman who said she had supported the business for over five years was spoken to dismissively regarding a return policy she already knew by heart. Instead of recognizing and valuing a longtime customer, the interaction felt robotic and disconnected. She even had to remind them that she knew their policies because she had been shopping there for years. That says a lot. Businesses need to understand that not every customer walking through the door should be treated like a potential thief or inconvenience. Customer service is about reading people, building relationships, and creating an environment where customers feel welcomed -- especially repeat customers who are the reason businesses stay open. I eventually had to speak directly to the owner and his wife because I felt they were approaching the wrong person with the wrong assumptions. The experience honestly reinforced something I've been thinking about for a long time: we need more businesses that genuinely understand community, respect, and customer care. This experience motivated me even more to eventually open my own Black-owned business where customers are treated with dignity, products are priced fairly, and people feel seen instead of judged. I don't wish failure on anyone, and I truly hope this business learns to reconnect with the people supporting them. But if you work in a service-oriented industry, then service actually matters. Respect matters. The customer experience matters. People remember how you make them feel long after they leave your store.
