It made a big commitment of money a lot more reassuring, and I did fare a lot better than friends who were booking by themselves at the same time. The girl I think was honestly more excited about my plans than I was at the time. I was given her direct number and when I had a query a few months later it was answered clearly and quickly. The company also deals with the high end custom package holidays if you have that sort of dosh, and I'm sure also are very good at doing the quick-fix europe dashes. There is a small bureau de change on site for your immediate currency needs. There are four desks for customers to be seen at, all manned by really friendly staff. The uniforms are bright and go well against the white walls - makes you feel in the holiday mood. There is a range of brochures on the walls behind the staff members meaning you have to ask for a brochure, but these are given willingly without any pressure. The staff are really good at making you feel welcome and take an interest in your holiday requirements. I have always felt that they have brought my holiday to life before its even begun. Despite the freezing temperatures outside the hotel was warm and inviting. Large spacious rooms with full central heating, many with views over the city. Spotlessly clean. Our hosts were friendly and efficient and the breakfast was excellent and included croissants, fresh fruit salad, toast with various spreads available and of course full english cooked breakfast. More expensive than some in the area but otherwise hard to fault. Would happily return if visiting Bath again.

Unfortunately it's not 24-hour, but they go from around 6am to around 10pm (you may wish to check that!) every 20 minutes or so, ferrying passengers on a loop from Clifton via the coach station and Temple Meads, then up through Bedminster to the airport. A taxi will costs you around £22 (so £44 for a return journey) to Temple Meads, while a return on here is just £9 (singles are £6). They're also almost as quick (20 min journey or so), due to the fact that the traffic is so dense for the majority of the journey that a taxi's extra speed is negated (I was running late for a flight once and shelled out for a taxi, only for the bus I'd spurned to pull up behind us as we arrived!). If you're on the route and travelling at a reasonable time, the Flyer beats a taxi hands down for price.

The Priority Members floor has an ice machine so you can help yourself to as much as you need. The rooms are large with room to peddle your bike around :-) The bed is comfortable, the room clean well maintained and the bathroom delightful with a choice of monsoon or hand held shower. We did not have breakfast as I prefer to go out to try new places to eat but the restaurant and bar area looked nice. Practical - I could not work the temperature gadge in the bathroom and I needed a jug of skimmed milk for the room as only whole milk was supplied. On both occassions the staff were prompt in dealing with the matter swiftly. Very friendly helpful staff, even the guys as you walk in on the ground floor - concierge. Its on a very busy road and you need to access the subway to cross unless you walk down to Cabot Circus. This did not present a problem thou. I would stay again.

The "kitchen" seems to rule the roost here as almost every question is met with "let me check with "the kitchen." "The kitchen" must be an omnipotent presence because the staff usually has a bit of trepidation when going to ask "the kitchen" questions. They have a small selection of items on the dining room menu and the food is not excellent and any deviation from items on the menu are strictly frowned upon. The menu does not change from day to day. Luckily, you may order from the bar menu in the library. This menu does not change either, but it does break up the monotony. We tended to enjoy this food more, but service was slow and inconsistent . Breakfast is the better option when dining in the dining room. The staff for the most part seems to operate with little or no training. They NEVER filled the water glasses. That's your job. They NEVER poured the wine, again, that's your job. This hotel seems to lack strong leadership. We had two rooms. The Queen Elizabeth room has extremely low beams. If one is over 5'3", one WILL hit their heads. We had to go to the front desk for ice to put on head bumps more than once. The third floor is for the most fit as there is no lift. Yes, I know we were staying in a castle and it was not going to be perfect, but for the price one is paying here, you expect first class service. Having said all of that, the gardens in the back are lovely, the visage from the front lawn is beautiful and the staff, though poorly, trained are friendly. Liam in the library area was very friendly and helpful. They need to have a rotating menu. The options in the nearby town are few to dine. It is possible to have a rotating menu, we also stayed at other manor houses which had wonderful menus and well-trained staff this trip.

The rates per night were a bit steep, but I justified it because "how often do ya do something like this?" So we did a night with dinner and breakfast included. Getting to the castle wasn't too bad we rented a car and made the journey into town. Parking is available and I believe they also have a charging area for EV. We checked in and were taken to our room, Queen Margaret's room. The employee was kind and explained some of the amenities like the complimentary gin and the common areas of the castle. We changed and went to explore, there was a wedding the night we were there so I feel like our exploration was cut a bit short since areas were reserved for them. We noticed there was a scale available in the room, but it needed a new battery so we asked at the desk for a replacement and was informed it would be done at turndown service. After walking the gardens, we went for drinks and played some of the games available in the sitting room/lounge. It was a bit unclear as to how to get bar service or the other amenities advertised. Having done research before it felt like there were things to do but upon arrival it was hard to figure out what we were able to do. Dinner was excellent; while sitting in the lounge you're served some almonds/olives and canapés where you place your order and then you're brought back into the main dining room. There is plenty of food even without the formal 6 course meal but it really is a fancy experience and the food is true art. We made an assumption that turndown service would happen at dinner but upon returning to our room- 2 to 3 hours later, everything looked the same. The shower was incredible and the bed was nice. You're provided with a fan which was helpful. Breakfast was a bit disappointing after the dinner we had the previous night- not sure I would need that component again. At check out I was given the invoice for one of the wedding guests, we had to refund that amount and charge the costs for our room. Looking at my statement the charges aren't equal so that's mildly concerning as well. Overall, Thornbury was still a cool experience for the bragging rights of staying in Henry VIII's castle, but I don't think I need to do it again. I'd come for the dinner but maybe skip the overnight stay.

Alex, the doorman, was phenomenal-have you ever received a hand drawn map of the area before with personal recommendations? When we walked into our beautiful room, there was spa music playing and we found the cutest complimentary tote bag, tea, snacks and kombucha.
