I've seen this dude a million times in Buckhead. I didn't know his name was Baton Bob. And I had no idea he had his own Yelp page. Famous, or infamous? Is Bob a legend? Fine, he's part of the fabric of Atlanta and all that. And you'll probably get a good chuckle when you see him shaking his tail feather in some of the most flamboyant costumes ever made. But that ear piercing whistle is just annoying. If I don't see Bob when I hear that god awful whistle then I'm looking around for someone directing traffic or a bicycle cop trying to pull me over. Not to mention, if you go to New York there's a Baton Bob on every corner. But do your thing Bob. The pointing and dancing especially cracks me up. read more

I used to work in midtown at a job that made me sad. Fortunately, this place was on West Peachtree, and every once in a while, fortune would smile on me, and I would get a special treat. Baton Bob is totally ridiculous and that's why we love him. He used to do his thing nearly everyday right in front of school in Midtown (14th + Peachtree) and I guess he probably still does. Atlanta would be amiss without him. What I'd like to know is what this guy does for a living other than dressing up and twirling a baton. Very mysterious. read more

Oh Baton Bob. When I first moved to Atlanta (specifically Midtown), family told me to keep an eye out for Bob..Baton Bob. 0_o was my first reaction - uh okay. I'll be sure to watch out for him...little did I know how much FUN he is! He's such an entertainer and my first time seeing him, I literally stopped what I was doing to stare at his fabulousness! I saw him today and he did his job of lifting my spirits and smiled and blew me a kiss as he tooted his tutu'd ass up in traffic! Doesn't get any better! Whistle and all! And those that don't like him and his whistle I'm assuming are the same persons who don't like rainbows, butterflies, bacon and children's laughter. I was driving down peachtree street and saw a man to my right dancing his ass off so hard. he looked like he was trying to audition for soul train. then i heard a whistle and thought a cop was trying to get my attention for not paying attention. i look to my left and there he was dressed in this get up that was more like the scarlet pimpernel meets shakespeare. he even had the feathered hat to top it off. wow. i laughed so hard i cried. i had to pull over and catch my breath. then i came back just to see him again. fuuuunnnnnyyyyyyy. read more

He reminded me of the unique presonalities and the colorful cast of characters I was used to seeing at home walking through the French Quarters of New Orleans. I had not been through Midtown for a few months. I was running errands on V-Day and saw Baton Bob at 14th and Peachtree. That was when I realized it had been months since going around Midtown. Glad I got to see you Bob! read more

I rememeber, the first day I saw and met Baton Bob. I was sitting at the light at Peachtree when suddenly, I spotted this colorful person that looked like a cartoon character, dancing across the cross walk. "WTF...is that?!" I said slowly following him down the road. Who was this mystical person in tiny hot pink shorts so tight I could see his fuzzy peaches?! He was wearing a top hat with a tall feather, a jacket with a sparkly lapel and a bow tie that spun. He was carrying a black cane that he pointed in to traffic and of course, the magical whistle. I followed him like a stalker, as he danced through the parking lot, whistling at people staring at him, smiling and waving at those that cheered and he paraded like this all the way in to Starbucks. How could I not buy him a hot beverage considering half his ass was hanging out? Not many have seen Bob in what I call his "prime" but I'll never forget the day I spotted him and watched as literally half the line in Starbucks cleared just so he could get a drink. read more

First saw Baton Bob in the Central West End in Saint Louis back in 2002-3 before coming to Atlanta. Where is Baton Bob now?!?!?!

The first time, I had the pleasure of meeting Baton Bob, was at a Starbucks in the 800 block of Peachtree Street. He had on a Superman outfit, white ankle boots with bells and a baton. He blew that whistle and begin to put on his show. There were guys, across the street, working on a high rise. They whistle and made cat calls towards him. Baton Bob didn't let him down. I was in the middle of meeting two new clients and I think we all ended up giving him 10 bucks a piece. Dude put on a show and made everyone laugh. It was a good day. Seeing Baton Bob strutting through Midtown is fancy getups, twirling a baton makes me SOOO happy : )

This hotel brings to mind the glory days of Atlanta, when those beautiful theaters on Broadway were actually sparkling and functional was the place to be. You can still see the beautiful architectural detail on the inside, and for a treat, check out the swimming pool. The sad fact is that the hotel is no longer as luxurious as it once was, but it is clean and within walking distance to Baton Bob which is a major transport hub. If you like history and architecture, this is a great hotel. If you want 21st century amenities, then it is not for you. read more
