BRCC is a cost-effective way for a student to get some of their core curricula out of the way, and either earn an Associates or transfer to a more academic college or university. The classes are generally fairly well taught, and the selection, while limited, is improving. That being said, the administration of the college is atrocious. The financial aid office holds your disbursement for up to 45 days, making it almost impossible to purchase materials for class. You can get a voucher to get your textbooks in the campus bookstore, but it is both poorly stocked and much overpriced. It is almost impossible to get correct information out of any department; asking 3 separate individuals will almost invariably get you 3 different answers, if not 4. I find it very similar to the DMV in this aspect. The IT resources are terrible, with servers regularly inaccessible for important tasks like on-line courses or scheduling. Logging into "Blackboard", one of their on-line educational resources, can take as long as 10 minutes during busy parts of the day; this is much worse during finals or during registration and scheduling. The high quality of some of the teachers and the low cost are the only things that keep me from giving this a single star. As soon as this semester is over I am transferring to a more expensive college, simply because I can't deal with the hassle of the administrative side of BRCC. read more

I attended BRCC around 2004 and had a very negative experience. I felt completely unsupported as a student, and it was difficult to get any real help or guidance. Communication was poor, issues were ignored, and I ultimately failed out and lost money because no one stepped in to assist me. Overall, it was an unhelpful and discouraging environment. read more

So I am currently on scholastic drop at LSU and I need to retake my classes online. I found out that I could retake my classes online at BRCC and I just needed to contact the enrollment services team to get set up. So I call them and after being on hold for 6 in a half minutes someone finally answers I ask to be transferred to the enrollment services team. However, I got disconnected after the transfer so I call again and this time I'm just left on hold. So if you're trying to retake your classes online to get back into your main university I wouldn't recommend trying to do it with BRCC because they just don't want to answer the phone or respond to emails. read more

My main concern is with the company BRCC uses to handle the financial transactions. In order for me to pay in full my tuition, Transact Campus Inc. charges me a $50 service fee, to pay MY tuition. Even if you use the Pay in installments option, they still charge $30 for each payment. Why add more burden to my $1,709 payment? read more

Where should I start. BRCC ia turning into SU in terms or registation and getting assistance. But let me tell you my story. I signed up for the C.M.A class. The class was paid for by the state - LRS. Claire McKight was over the program and Ms. Weaver was my instructor. I have been certified since 3/2023. I never got my cpr class or did my externship which is included in the cost of the class. I have called and called on assistance. I have sent emails to Myra Collins with proof of my certification. Nothing. But check this out. They sent me an email to take the class again----ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! WASTE OF TIME. Went to the new "nursing building" not a soul in that building could assist me. read more

This is by far the worst college I have ever attended and by a very wide margin. It isn't even close. I have attended 2 other community colleges for core classes after a switch in majors, 1 University and am currently trying to transfer to another University to finish my degree. Every single time there is a hang up and not because I have attended multiple schools no. It is only because of BRCC. Let me explain. At some point over the past few years BRCC somehow just. Lost my student record and transcript. How is this possible? I couldn't even tell you. Okay fine that's really bad but whatever I don't want to fight the battle to reinstate these credits that realistically aren't all important across the country anyways. I need a letter of Non-attendance now to transfer. Oh but wait not only did they lose my records, YOU CAN'T GET IN TOUCH WITH ANY HUMANS AT THE SCHOOL. Call the main line it will put you on a hold. If you manage to wait for hours like I have it will eventually do one of these things 1. Just hangs up 2. Goes to voicemail to leave a message of which nobody will ever contact you back for 3. Someone actually answers only to hang up on you. Okay that's terrible. Even though any other college or university I call can answer a phone I guess BRCC is just that popular. So I leave an email stating what I need. Crickets... Never hear anything back. Alright I will go to their directory for individual staff contacts to try and call them. They will see a call, and purposefully hang up. Everytime I have to transfer schools and especially now because the state I am tracks records through a statewide system so I can not simply remove BRCC from my record, this is an issue for me getting admitted anywhere. Stay away from this school at all costs. They lost my records. Faculty doing their jobs is nonexistent. And there is no responsibility or accountability. Do not let this school be the wall of your academic journey. Because it does far more harm to your education than it does any good. read more

This school needs to be shut down. Such a horrible school and does not pick up phone calls or try to resolve any issues. They try to fraud your money and then ghosted without calling you back and even when we reported the issue to LOSFA and LOSFA attempted many weeks to reached Ms. Briante Edmond (financial advisor) that never worked a day in her life at BRCC because she can never get on the phone or reply email to get things resolved. read more

No one calls you back from this college. I have put my phone number in the call back queue for over two weeks. No one ever returns the call. You are always #150+ in the queue. I have emailed directly to staff and still nor response. They are holding up my ability to sign up for classes because it says I am missing pre-requisite courses which I am not even through they already have proof of this with my transcript and transient letter. The professors sometime do not show up for the weekly online class instructions. Not the best school to take courses at. read more

Very unorganized, rude in the student services department, and misguided communication is what you're going to receive at this school. You have to call multiple numbers to get misguided information. If I could give this school 0 stars I would. It is a truly horribly unorganized place. Their automated emails are frequently sent in error (such as sending the wrong payment information then correcting a day later). They never answer the phones, most of which direct you to the main line which always has several callers ahead. Although they do manage to give you an option to hold your spot in the call line and call you back, that's a LIE. If you do manage to get through to a department, it will probably make you leave a voicemail, which won't matter because they're not going to call you back anyway. And because they don't answer the phones, the wait to speak to someone in almost any major department is almost always over 2 hours. The classes themselves aren't so bad, but i strongly recommend that you ONLY take online classes to just about completely avoid the place altogether. Do not fool with this place unless you have to or have an online class option. read more

The worst customer service I have ever encountered. I have money that is owed to me and they when I have asked them on numerous occasions about they simply reply, "monitor your account" no time frame or any other explanation. I have a zero balance owed but a 3700 credit. It is incredibly off putting. I will be looking to transfer next semester because of this. Sad that I know people who attended here years ago and had the same complaint which tells me they have no desire to improve their way of doing business. How are they still functioning??? read more

Although I graduated with my associates here in 2009, BRCC helped pave the way for me to continue to an accredited sacs university to obtain my Bachelors degree. BRCC is a great school to start at and I would recommend it to others. There is only 3 buildings designated for classes which makes it fairly easy to find and get to different buildings in a timely manner. The Welcome Center houses the cafeteria, book store, campus police, admissions, registrars office, financial aid and other staff offices. They have staff positioned in the middle of the Welcome Center whom offer assistance to prospective or current students. The smaller campus makes for an easier transition into the college world. read more

Most of the facilities at Baton Rouge Community College are black. I am really good student at BRCC and asked several black staffs to find more informations about events plus library include location. They refused to help me out because I'm mixed races as know as multiracial. Also they won't help people who are not black. It's NOT right!!! The educations are very good, but terrible staffs. Teachers are good, but they just want to waste your money if you're not black... I hate that. :( read more

BRCC is honestly the worst school I've ever attended. The staff is not helpful at all. If you check their auditing records they have misplaced student financial aid. They are horrible at accommodating if you are in dire need. The teachers here are also not great (except for a few). No one ever answers the phone or emails back. I have been to two different community college's and a well known university that I graduated from. I decided to go to BRCC for a career change and because it was local and not very expensive. BIG MISTAKE. This is the most unorganized unhelpful place I have ever been in my life. They constantly had problems with my financial aid and when I call no one would ever answer the phone. I then leave a voice mail and send an email and never get any response back. So I spent all of my time-not studying or focusing on school- but driving back and forth to BRCC which is not close to me. This in turn caused my grades to suffer. There seems to be an unspoken prejudice against certain people here namely white males. I went to this school years ago and I liked my time there, especially the Spanish courses. The teachers were so nice and professional and the campus was ok. However, during recent years, I have noticed that things have changed quite a bit because since their enrollment is open, they have a LOT of students and some students do not want to do the work needed to take the class, which in turn makes the GOOD teachers want to leave. I hope that things go back to the way it was during the earlier years of BRCC. I would have given this school 5 stars, but I know that things haven't been the same for a while since I left the school. Also, if you want your transcript, people in the office do not help as much as they used to, so I do not think that it is about race, but laziness or faulty administration practices. read more

BRCC-Went to the Science department to get help with a override, the lady at the desk was rude both times I had to go there. The parking lot need repaved. Most instructors don't care about students and if they pass or not. Also,my transcript didn't get approved until a week before class started. read more

Though I left here in 2013, I actually did enjoy the school. BUT, there were some very rude people who worked there. One lady was always on the phone with personal calls and you would just have to wait until she's finished her conversation before she "assists" you. I went to get a parking permit and the woman at the desk acted as though she knew me personally and did not like me. She ignored me for the longest before rudely walking off to go to the restroom then returned still buttoning and zipping her pants. Also, financial counselors were not much help. My first semester of college, I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. I ended up losing my TOPS scholarship the first year because I didn't understand how many hours were required and the financial counselors didn't help me understand anything. Lines were almost always ridiculously long to speak to a counselor too. Besides all this, I still liked it somehow. read more

Not only a bad place to obtain an education. It's also a bad place to be an employee at. There is a lack of respect for employees from the top to the bottom. Human resources is a revolving door and no one gets anything right in that office. From rude attitudes when you tell them your pay is wrong. To enrolling you in the wrong health care and not being able to change it. Poor management in nearly every department. And no one works together to help the students. Financial aid is complete disaster. They lose students paper work like it's their job. And rarely refund financial aid money on time. TOPS might get loaded to accounts by Christmas break. I made a yelp account solely to post this review. I have never done this before and I am getting nothing out of this. It simply needs to be said. I have attended several colleges in my day, because I move around a lot, but Baton Rouge Community College is by far the most unprofessional, useless, unhelpful, dead end institution I have ever come into contact with. The registration process alone is absurd. They are constantly losing your documents, you find yourself having to send things three, four, and five times (this is not an exaggeration). The financial aid department is a whole other story. If they ever do apply for your loan, which most of the time they don't and won't, you have to hound them about it, or anything really if you want it to get done over there, the loans are never there in time. Then, the school claims that you must pay for your semester up-front or your classes will be dropped and any money you pay will be returned once your loan is "disbursed." Completely defeating the purpose of the LOANS you took out. The negligence goes on and on but that's just to name a few instances. Good luck trying to send transcripts from them to another school, that's another hassle in itself. Essentially, everything you do at this school will be a hassle and a headache. It's unbelievable what you have to go through to get anything done here. By all means, do NOT even consider going here. It's really a shame because the education itself isn't all to bad, BUT... the registration, financial aid, and all of the staff that come with these departments including student help center is a DISASTER to deal with and needs a clean-out of all of the unqualified employees. read more
