Nelson Mandela Join me as we celebrate a day, a day that honors those that have served our nation both past, present, and future. November 11, a day set aside to honor all of those that have served this great nation. Originally, this day was marked as the day to end all wars. It became important in more recent times to show the veterans our appreciation for their heroism and patriotism. Thank you for all military personal for keeping us all safe and free! In the last two decades the United States has entered into this conflict, disagreement over what happening all over the globe. We seem to ride in on our steel birds to the rescue. It's the least we can do! Right. Personal freedom and experiences we have our ladies and gentlemen of all of the armed forces to thank. Not only in our great nation, but we have become the champions for those that get bullied or stepped over by some faction trying to take their rights away in far off lands all over the globe. When our soldiers have come home in the past and present it is organizations in the community that give them support. As a military wife for many years and daughter to a military family it's an unusual upbringing with lots of moving. You never know where you will be from one year to the next. After having the twins, and through some protest to my husband it was time for him to settle down and leave the military. I learned that you never leave the military, for the men that you fight along side become brothers in the real sense. After the death of my husband two years ago, who was there for the twins and I. The brothers that my beloved knew. Individuals I did not even know were comforting me in my time of loss. God bless each one of them. It seems these days that vets get a bad rap. They come home from seeing such atrocities all over the world; and it's hard to process these things. In America many seem to walk around with blinders on and don't realize it. That homeless man that seems broken, talking to himself after fighting for our nation is at his lowest. He's talking to himself and could even be violent. See the rage and hate for life from his point of view. Can you see the image? Boys just landing fresh out of boot camp, wanting to fight that fight for freedom. They grab that gun and go to armed car. Time to go get the bad guys. Some of our troops have taken lives more than once. Then they come home, no more guns now let's replace the gun with a cell phone. Time to start life again, many of the soldiers come back to families and children they have not even met. It's hard for them to cope. Families break up because of unlivable conditions and here comes the cycle. That homeless vet that we all have seen. Don't fear him or her? Let's do something about it. We need to help our own. Give vets a chance to live. After the loss of my husband, I did not want to continue on with life. Life was meaningless. During my college days, I wanted to do something to change life for the veteran. This organization and ones like it are the answers. There is not enough of them. We all have the be the voice for those that need our help. Let's bring about social change and justice for a simple and healthy way of life for those that have given their souls. Men have bled for this country and our freedoms; what do we do. Cast them aside . Change starts now. Let's remember our veterans this time of year and every other day of the year. God Bless!

DAV helped me with my initial claim for V.A. disability based on Agent Orange exposure in Thailand…read moreprior to the PACT Act being passed. I filed a claim for diabetes type II and prostate cancer based on Agent Orange exposure at my base in Thailand where I was stationed from Dec 1974 to Mar 1976. I was granted a rating at a time when the V.A. was denying most AO claims from people based in Thailand. Very satisfied with DAV's service so I became a lifetime member. I received a 40% combined rating in 2017 for this claim. Since that time I have had more health issues develop which are all related to my exposure to AO in Thailand. In April 2024 I was awarded 100% T & P combined rating with Special Monthly Compensations K and S. My current ratings are 20% diabetes type II, 20% prostate cancer post surgery residuals, 10% bilateral diabetic peripheral neuropathy left foot, 10% bilateral diabetic peripheral neuropathy right foot, 30% Stage III Diabetic Chronic Kidney disease, 100% Left Ventricular Hypertrophy w/congestive heart failure and stable angina with less than 3 METs.

I was able to be scheduled for a one-day training, then got certified for it, and then I ended up volunteering to work at the VA. At the end of the three months working there, I was told they didn't need me as I was not on their roster list. I don't know their protocols as they have to follow it and it sounded like they did not follow it correctly. So I questioned them till I was satisfied as to why their actions happened the way it did as these leaderships were with this organization for years as I didn't hear anything negative about my work that I assisted them on. I do not have a witness who I feel I can trust there will back me up when this first happened and it got worse where that person may not know later. I was told there is a meeting for me but was told it is not mandatory. At the same time, I was asking them questions about why I"m coming to this meeting and finally they told me what I was signing, then I didn't show up for their meeting as it was a trap from them. They finally mailed me priority certified of a Reprimand and threatened me as I was still a member; then it said if I continue to harass them from my questioning them that I will get an Article XVI, possibly higher level disciplining. I was mailed another Reprimand letter from them within six days after the first letter as I felt this was harassment and a threatening letter from them. I heard that in the past another female veteran was given a Reprimand due to her race and gender.
