We used other tax preparation services several times and felt somewhat confident all was well, until one year it wasn't. Though the establishment "made it up to us" we were happy to find Jay who explains things in such a way we feel comfortable with filing taxes each year. The attention to our individual issues has been welcoming. Each year he knows what happened previously and tailors his support. We've used him for planning ventures and large investments. I will say this with Jay, treat your clients properly, or face reviews like this... it is simple. SK's online review rating was higher at the time I started working with them so perhaps it seems their below average service delivery is catching up with them. I would just say to proceed with caution. The price is fair based on other CPA firms, but you need to know that the service will be a challenge. I experienced poor communication, major delays in timing expectations, and less than competent tax preparation. I'm a business owner/CPA and when I worked with SK I joked that you needed to be a CPA in order to work with them. I caught many mistakes (even basic ones) that prevented headaches down the line had I not caught them before final filing with the tax authorities. I would have left one star, but I believe they mean well, there's just seems to be an inability to execute. They recognized my poor service experience, but then weren't able to improve it (even after the associate we were working with left). Again, engage with caution.

But then we moved in together and the first year of him watching me blithely scribbling random numbers on my 1040EZ form caused him to weep copiously. By the second year, he physically wrangled my tax forms from me...and brought it to CHC CPAs. Don't tell him this, but this is one of the *very few* times he was right. Things I've learned by having a real professional work on your taxes: 1) You get more money back...even when they don't let claim your pet bunny as a dependent (hey, do you know how much bunnies cost?!? I think I should get the same tax deduction as a kid! Especially as my bunny won't be a drain on our social resources. I will try to balance this review with pros and cons…read more Pros - He is extremely knowledgeable and truly knows the tax laws like the back of his hands. His early assistance was prompt, thorough and he also is very experienced with various tax issues. Cons - He has the capacity to be highly unprofessional once his comfort level settles in. I have been on the receiving end of him yelling on the phone, and attempting to scare me into thinking if I didn't hire him and his tax attorney for assistance (for a few thousand dollars) that I could end up in prison. I could go on and will spare you the details, but the bottom line is after several weeks of his subsequent unresponsiveness, I lost a lot of time. The good news is I successfully managed on my own without help and received a favorable response from the IRS in the end. The bad news is I wasted time and experienced unnecessary stress related to Rich's exaggerated 'scare tactics' about my tax situation. While I appreciate Rich's early assistance, over time his professionalism eroded. But don't take my word for it, just take a moment to review his response to the other less than stellar review on here as he illustrates my point himself with perfection. In fact, I suspect he may take aim at me personally as well after reading this and take the same approach, so just a heads up.
