I didn't think Santa's reach stretched this far, but it indeed does through the staff at BAB. When I couldn't get a bike they helped me find one. They stayed late to assemble it so that I wouldn't have to stress out before Christmas. COVID has been difficult for everyone. Eric and the team at BAB extended a glimmer of hope and faith in humanity by truly going above and beyond during this difficult time. Don't waste your time at any other bike shop in CC. First time here and it was just an OK experience. I usually go out of my way to support local bike shops so I may still come back here but only because it's one of only two LBS in Corpus. i.e. I'll probably check their competitor first, since I had a better experience over there. So.... I was pleased with the initial warm welcome and with the product I purchased. Not a lot of interaction required since I knew specifically what, a 9 speed chain, didn't care what brand. Incidentally, KMC's the only brand they carry but luckily for me, that's the brand of chain I prefer if given a choice. If one is looking for a higher end brand, best shop at the other place in town. The other things I like is that this place serves more than just the road and MTB crowd; they've got a good selection of comfort bikes, commuter bikes, bike path bikes, and kids bikes and that they support the local cycling community. What I was not pleased with was the staff's less than helpful response (immediately after checkout) when I asked if they had any tips or advice specific to installing/removing the master link if I don't have the master link tool. The cashier's response was "Your best bet is to check YouTube" which pretty much made me regret ever stepping in there. Seriously?..... one of the reasons one goes to a LBS is to receive personal service and, for us aspiring home wrenchers, some friendly tips and advice. Sure I can Google and YouTube, I have and I will, but if I make the effort to spend my money at a local shop and then in turn get brushed off like that, I'm better off order everything from Amazon. I have been in this store on 3 seperate occasions, and each time, I was made to feel like I was an inadequate cyclist, an unwelcome customer, or an insufficient mechanic. I'm not a pro cyclist, I'm not a certified mechanic, I'm an enthusiast who enjoys biking for pleasure and transportation. I love learning new things about cycling and I love working on my own bike when something is out of whack. If it's something I don't know how to fix, I will take my bike to a bike shop and pay them to do it, but only as a last resort. My most recent visit, I explained what I needed to the boss there, and his response was "if you were a competent mechanic, you wouldn't be here." I find that insulting, and I've seen others get berated the same way for asking simple questions. If you want good service at a much better price, and friendly people who will talk cycling with you, without insulting you or looking down their nose at you, go anywhere else. read more

I've bought 4 trek's all at varying levels here over the past 15 years. The service staff are always great, they really take the time and I never felt rushed or that my concerns weren't important. It's like these guys don't just want to make a sale, they want you on your bike, safely and comfortably as well. I highly recommend talking to junior, solid dude, answers questions with grace (not like your an idiot for asking) and always ready to find what's best for you and your budget...all that stuff goes a long way with me. read more

These are really nice folks. I wanted to get into riding bikes and knew nothing about it at all. Cycling, like most sports, can be so cliquish and intimidating for a novice. Not here. They sold me a great bike that more or less changed my life. Pricing is very fair. You can stop by and ask questions of the staff and get good product recommendations. Everyone here rides bikes of one kind or another. It's very casual and laid back. These folks are knowledgeable and friendly. I recently moved away from Corpus Christi and I've yet to find a shop the I liked as much as Bay Area. When I get back to town I look forward to dropping in. read more

Awesome local shop that is extremely knowledgeable. Worked with Josh to find a replacement bike and he sat down and went over all the pros and cons of my choices. Very honest, hardworking and fun to work with-thank you. Bay Area put together a large, complicated, Dutch electric assist cargo bike for me--and did it in about a day! They made sure everything was riding smoothly and offered a free check in after about 30 rides to make sure things were dialed in. I was helping my parents get new bikes. So while I was on vacation we decided to stroll into this shop to look around. Sales staff was helpful and did adjustments to make the bike fit properly before test riding... I'm not just talking about the seat post, they took the time to adjust handle bar ride by tilting the bars, and even the saddle on the seat post. My parents ended up getting two new bikes while we were on vaction. One thing I really don't like about this shop is all the bikes have accessories pre-installed so to get a basic bike they have to then go and remove that stuff if you don't want it. We removed most of it because the shop is a little pricey on these... for example they want $10 for a water bottle cage and I know Shoreline Bikes has them for $5-6. Accessories can also harm the bikes as example with my Dad's Electra Townie he bought from them: It has a bell pre-installed on the power coated handle bars, he didn't want it so had it removed at time of purchase of the bike. only to find out the mount gouged the handle bars and removed the power coating... when you buy a new bike you want everything perfect...Dad was going to install a new bell anyways but I didn't like this sales tactic. So I'm not giving them all the stars. They did off 15% any accessories at time of bicycle purchase. read more

Pedal fell off my bike while riding. Had not put more than a few miles on this puff. Poor design for a $400+ bike. Went in to get a replacement bolt, owner charges $5 for a $2 bolt. Talk about profiting from an unfortunate situation. Not impressed at all and would not recommend this shop or its' management to any friends. read more

Bought three Trek Bikes for my kids here last year, and spent close to $1000 bucks. Today, I brought one back because it needed a new tube, the tire was flat and would not fill with air. I figured they could do it in 10 minutes and my family could take our bike ride. I was told that the service department was closed on Saturday, but they could fill out a ticket and have it done on Monday. I came in at 4pm; they close at 5. Not sure if the service dept was really closed or they didn't want to chance not leaving At 4:45. At this point, I don't really care. I have spent my last dollar in their store. They were more than willing to make the sale in 10 minutes on three bikes. F them. read more

This is my favorite local bike shop. They are reliable and friendly, none of the egomaniac atmosphere you can sometimes get in a bike shop. They cater to everyone from the complete beginner to BMX to high-end roadies, and they're just as nice to you regardless. They offer some swim and tri gear as well. They are constantly supporting their staff in professional development, so their staff is highly trained and knowledgeable and take a lot of pride in their work. Theirs is one of the few e-newsletters I allow into my inbox, and it's because they are constantly up to something new and fun. It's more than just a sales pitch. They are heavily involved in the community, they sponsor fun evening clinics and training rides, support safe cycling, they heavily donate to Bikes for Kids and related programs, and they're good people who really care.
