Dental Associates took my insurance and was able to get me in for an emergency appointment the same day. After some x-rays, the doctor examined me and listened very carefully to what my concerns were. At the time I was in horrible pain from an infection, but I wasn't swollen and the x-ray was not showing any issues with the tooth. I ended up having to go for a root canal, but at the time I was now clearly swollen and had to wait for an antibiotic to kick in. The next day I had to go to a local oral surgeon to have the abscess drained. A week later, I had the root canal completed. As far as waiting times, I would say they are no better or worse than any other dental office I have visited. As far as the office being "dirty" I completely disagree. It is not fancy, but it is definitely NOT dirty.

At this place the dentist i saw was too talkative and over friendly. I mean come on, i see you 2 times a year and no one enjoys going to the dentist....why do you need to converse so much. On another note, they told me i needed gum work and told me how much all the work would cost with my insurance....total rip off. Lastly, today i called to cancel an appointment for the next day because yesterday was a holiday and the girl laughed at me over the phone. Very unprofessional. Done with this place.

Dear Tooth Fairy - Child getting teeth cleaned at dentist

    Dear Tooth Fairy

After a recent experience at Dear Tooth Fairy, I would give this business zero stars if I could…read more Our family of four were patients for over 7 years and tolerated the unkind staff and booking difficulties over the years, but our last visit was the most disturbing experience I have ever had with a doctor or office and I would advise against anyone using their dental or orthodontics services, especially for children. My 7 year old child had an orthodontist visit with the orthodontist, Dr. Song, (who is completely ill-equipped to deal with children), to be fitted for his Invisalign. He did not have the correct size mouthpiece for my 7 year old child; they did not have the room set up for a child, but rather an adult, and instead of explaining what he would be doing before starting the procedure, he waited until after my son was inconsolable. The fitting was not completed during this visit. When I voiced my concern with the way the appointment was handled, along with disappointment at the inability for the staff to reschedule in a timely manner (our next appointment was scheduled for 6 weeks later, after already waiting weeks on the Invisalign molds) he was unable to provide answers and suggested that finding a new orthodontist was the best option. Keep in mind, Dear Tooth Fairy claims to work well with children with anxiety and take a "gentle" approach. Absolutely nothing about his approach was gentle; the television set was even set to a home building show for an adult, not a child. Dr. Song didn't know where any equipment was and didn't know how to change the channel. They spent 15 minutes trying to get the channel changed, after 10 minutes of trying to find the correct size mouth piece but then told me they didn't have time to complete the appointment. When we reached out to speak to Dr. Kim who has known my family, as mentioned, for 7 years, she refused to speak to us over the phone, and STILL has yet to. She unequivocally supported her other practitioner and offered a refund for all services with Dr. Song. Receiving that refund took weeks, even though it was a DIRECT payment to Dear Tooth Fairy; we are still awaiting the refund on our insurance portion. Bottom line, Dr. Kim has no backbone to speak with parents and no concern for human decency or respect, let alone speciality care for children. This is only magnified by the people she hires to work at the facility. Rosemary, who is expected to work the front desk, assist with x-rays, and procedures in the dental rooms is the most unkind person I have ever met in my life. She is rude over the phone and in person, and is not kind to children. Just one recent example, we arrived for an appointment at the end of October '25 that was scheduled for 2:00pm. We arrived at 1:50pm, as requested in all paperwork you receive prior to your appointment to arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. At arrival, Rosemary was eating lunch at the desk, she did not say hello, but said "you need to come back at 2:00pm, I'm still on my lunch." I asked if we could wait inside since it was a particularly cold day and she said "no, come back at 2:00pm." Dr. Song arrived at 2:10pm back from his lunch break for our 2:00 p.m. scheduled appointment - ten minutes late. The lack of professionalism, care for patients - who are children, and overall nature of both the facility and the people that work there should be enough to close this place down for good. Please take this horrendous experience as a warning and find yourself a dentist anywhere else. Also note that Dr. Min Jin Kim and Dr. Richard Song offer their services at other facilities as well, so be sure to check that they are not your dentist at another location.

I hate wasting an hour+ in a waiting room. In short, I highly recommend Deer Tooth Fairy!

When we started going to Lumia dental, we were extremely pleased with how friendly and competent…read morethey were. It was an added bonus that this was a female owned and run company (of which alas they are still way too few nowadays). Their patient care is excellent and as far as any dental work is concerned, I would highly recommend them. However, as their business grew and expanded, I was starting to worry about what this would mean for their patients. My worries did eventually come true: from a patient based practice, it turned more into a corporate business, and with it, the desire/need for higher profits. As a result, they decided to no longer accept our insurance (Guardian dental, a major dental insurance company) because, according to them, their low fee schedule did not allow them to provide the best care for their patients. Now, that latter is just rethoric, for they were doing an excellent job. Why would that need to stop? No, it was because Guardians fee schedule did not make them enough profit. The way it works is as follows: a dental practice can determine its own fees for various procedures. An insurance company, through collective bargaining, can then negotiate for a reduced schedule for their clients (depending on the local competition). So, accepting an insurance first and foremost means to agree to the collectively bargained fees. While getting less profit, it means a much larger potential client base. This is the power of collective bargaining (which would be so much more effective if health care in the US would be universal, like it is in many other countries and, as a result, also much affordable). For Lumia, however, loyalty to their patients was not deemed as important as getting more profit (perhaps because of the increased costs of having expanded the business) and so they dropped Guardian as one of the accepted insurances. To give one example: our insurance pays the full fee for a cleaning every 4 months. However, they now raised their fee for a cleaning, making us having to pay more than $100 for something that was previously free. And you can guess that with more involved procedures, the out-of-pocket costs gets up even higher. That is why we had to leave Lumia as clients---essentially being pushed out as not being affluent enough clients that do not mind paying much more than they used to---and we now found an equally competent dental clinic in the neighborhood which does accept our insurance. I can only assume that we will not be the only patients leaving the practice, and in the long run, this might seriously damage Lumia (unless they can find enough wealthy clients in the downtown area).

Maybe even 3rd. Before you even get to your appointment they're hooking you up with reminders so you don't accidentally double book yourself and have to choose between your dental health or an overpriced night out on the town. Speaking of town, if you live nowhere near Jersey City, but they take your insurance, you should still give yourself the privilege of being one of their patients. During your appointment they tell you the good, the bad,and the ugly in the nicest way possible and provide you with praise or education depending on your teeth and how many cavities you do or do not have. The place is high tech and you can tell they're using some military grade tech to get the job done. They even have televisions you can watch on the ceiling while you're getting the plaque scraped off of your lateral incisors. Netflix and Drill some would say. But I digress, onto the after your appointment : If you care about your teeth and being able to bite into a juicy well done vegan burger when you're in your 90s, this is the place to be.

TrueCare Dental also tried using high-pressure sales tactics on me, including the scam artist dentist challenging me by saying demeaning stuff like, "Well, if you can't afford it..." Fortunately I am not easily pressured. Went to two different dentists after to get second and third opinions, both of whom said I don't need any part of my mouth deep-cleaned (let alone a full mouth deep cleaning) and I do not need invisalign. I also only need one filling, not the six or seven TrueCare Dental insisted I needed. TrueCare Dental is a scam shop. Avoid at all costs.

I don't leave bad reviews for anyone, I respect business, but I feel it's very important that all parents should be warned about this dentist's "policies" since l wasn't aware of them until they gave me and my son a very hard time. My son needed a filling, that's all I was told in his checkup, along with a quote for how much I'd have to pay after insurance. Fine, my husband takes a day off of work so that I can bring my son in for his filling. When I get to the office, I am charged before the appointment starts and then told that I cannot go in with my three year old son and be present during his appointment. This was the first time I was hearing it, and of course in the world that we live in, had no intent of just "trusting" these strangers with my son alone. So I tell them, no, unless I am able to go in, I am not letting them take him in alone. So, the assistant calls the dentist to come talk to me. Dentist Wilma McPherson comes out to tell me that it's her policy that minors must come in alone without their parents present for the appointment. I tell her that's not ok and she proceeds to tell her assistant to have me sign a form so that they can send my records to another dentist. My son was heart broken. He's three and loves going to the dentist and he himself was asking me why the dentist wouldn't let me come in. I honestly don't understand such a policy when you're dealing with minors. What do you do that a parent can't be present to witness? And if it's about Covid, it makes less sense since I was allowed to be present during my kids cleanings. You are ok with working face to face inside my kid's mouth but it's not ok for me to sit farther away with my mask on? Extremely disappointing. I told my friend that had been taking her child to this practice for years about this and she started taking her child to another practice now. This is so unprofessional and will only make you lose patients. All of your patients are minors, why insist on having them without the parent? My parents went to all of my dentist appointments as a child, I don't understand this "policy". I immediately called another dentist office to have my child get his filling and they had no unprofessional policies, I was able to sit and witness my kid's appointment no problem and had a great experience. Obviously never going back to JCPD and warning all of my friends about it.
