Curiosity is what prompted me to go into the Bayanihan Oriental Supermarket on Capel Street. I'm a big fan of trying different cuisines and this place intrigued me.
I'm embarrassed to say but I had to google "bayanihan" to figure out the origin of this word. It's comes from the Filipino term "bayan" which means community. The term "bayanihan" refers to communal unity. I guess this shop contributes to the growth of the Filipino community in Ireland.
In any case, this shop has some interesting produce, canned goods and frozen meats. I found a pig's head in a vacuum sealed pack in the freezer, sweeten canned beans in syrup and dried sardines. The ramen noodles, tropical fruit juices and leafy greens looked good. read more
