So we found this place as we were scrambling for a place to stay after we got stuck in Homer for…read morethe night due to bad luck and poor planning. We called all over town and even the $280 a night yurt and a walk in closet with two bunk beds were all booked up. We were lucky enough to get the last cabin at Dandy Cabins. The cabins are clean and well equipped with kitchens and satellite tv. The location is very convenient. They also have some of the best prices in Homer. They don't have the views of the ocean, but you can save yourself a bundle and walk or drive to spit in a minute.

The hotel has been tastefully updated. We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite that had everything you'd…read moreneed -- a true mini kitchen, a comfy couch with a tv, and a separate bathroom. The bed was just ok. The only caution is that there's a lot of noise in first floor rooms if the hotel is busy. First, kudos to the individual(s) who decorated the suite. First class, elegant, and very well thought-out. This person has great taste in design and decorating. Second, the quality of the amenities such as shampoo, body wash, ear q-tips, kitchen/pantry essentials was above average. Again, the choices reflected the class and taste of the individual making these choices. Third, our suite felt like home. Truly, we walked in and just felt our bodies relax as if we were at our home. That's not an easy goal to achieve. Thank you!! Again, we are planning on returning next year and we're sure it will be just as top shelf.

Extra shout-out to Angela (?) the manager running the inn: the day we checked out my wife caught a cold, it was pouring rain outside, and our boat wouldn't depart till 3pm. She let us stay in our room for 4-5 extra hours as we rested inside -- super grateful that they delayed our leave until so late, we appreciate it so much!

I gladly switched rooms after the first night. Both rooms had parking immediately in front of the door and a small deck on the back. The rooms are basic with two double beds, a small microwave, a coffee maker, a small fridge with freezer, and DirecTV on the television. The folks in the office are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I definitely recommend this as a spot to explore Homer.

When we checked in, they upgraded our room to the building closest to the beach. This was nice, as it was very convenient to walk from our room down to the beach. We also had a great view from the window in the front of our room. Our room was fairly plain but nice, well maintained and clean. Not what you're used to paying as much as they're asking for something similar in the lower 48 states, but hey, this is Alaska and rooms cost more. We really liked the openness to the coast and at sunrise, the great view of the bay at that time of day. It was beautiful! Between the view, how well maintained the room was, and the friendliness of the staff, we liked this place and would definitely stay here again.

Our room was inviting and cozy, the bathroom was clean. There are 2 rooms to choose from, the Moose Room with 2 single beds and a private bathroom attached, and the Bear room with a Queen bed and a private bathroom across the hall. Manfred was a wonderful host, with great recommendations for restaurants and fishing charters. He was also very accommodating when we had to leave early in the morning for a charter and left some cereal, milk, juice, fruit and baked goods for us to eat for breakfast. Don't be fooled by his modesty, he is an excellent cook and I'd have had to watch my waistline if I stayed there any longer. I was very impressed with the level of service and the hospitality. We had a great breakfast with fantastic company and conversation our last morning there, complete with several visits from a Steller's Jay that Manfred feeds peanuts. I am quite certain that I will be back to Homer for at least another couple of fishing trips, and I wouldn't even consider staying somewhere else. I would highly recommend staying here.

Manfred was a great host, very friendly, and happy to offer advice on restaurants and activities. The breakfast was good and unlike many B&Bs it was not only sweat things. We had pancakes one day and eggs with smoked salmon the next. Both were accompanied by fruit and coffee. The rooms were very clean and each had its own bathroom (only one room had an in room bathroom). There is a small common area to be shared by the two rooms. As the pictures show the rooms are filled with art including animal skins. We found this place affordable (by Alaskan standards at least) and well worth the money. We recommend it.

What we expected based on their website, our friend's recommendation, and some reviews on Trip Advisor was to get a decent room with cozy accommodations, and a nice elder couple in the front office. We got all that we expected. THE ROOM & THE LOCATION: We booked a room that was pretty basic and it was $99/night. They switched our room b/c the person in our booked room opted to extend their stay and so we got upgraded. We had this awesome 1 bedroom, 1 bath room with an additionl twin bed (which was used one of our last nights there for our friend, so came in pretty convenient) a couch/living room area with a TV, a FULL KITCHEN, and a balcony with a couple of chairs and table. The balcony OVERLOOKED the grassy area and had an awesome view. We also were able to walk around quite easily (we did have a rental car also), which was nice for getting to know Homer. Free wi-fi and basic cable included also.You could never get this price in CA with such a great view and the kitchen sure came in handy! STAFF/SERVICE: We emailed the place and it often took 2-4 weeks for a reply, so we learned that the phone was best. It is family owned and operated, with the elder couple living on site. I don't know that we ever spoke with the daughter besides by email, but she usually responded later than it would take to talk by phone. Not a big deal when it came down to it. The owner, John I think, had listed all the rooms handwritten and had us in there when we arrived, no worries. He gave suggestions if we asked and was quite polite. One day, we did enter when the cleaning lady was working on our room but she was almost done and extremely apologetic. Hey, we were the ones that didn't leave long enough right? HAHA. She was really nice and polite when she returned with our towels and asked if we needed anything else. Bottom Line - I would DEFINITELY return here if we were back in AK!!!

We stayed here for a couple of days last week. It's a fairly new and modern hotel, but it's no 5…read morestar landmark. Comparing to a stay at Lands End Resort i had last year in one of their newly renovated rooms, this one falls a little short, however compared to the unrenovated rooms, it's pretty comparable. It does lack the facilities of the Land's End in that's there's no restaurant, gift shop, convenience store, or coffee shop. Personally i like all those extras in a hotel. The suite was really nice though, we had a little kitchenette that was equipped with everything you'd need if you wanted to prepare meals. It had a cute 2 burner glass-type stovetop. However, there was no dishwasher, and no facilities available to wash your own dishes afterwards. There was a sink, so all you'd need would be the dish soap, a dish rag or sponge, and a tea towel, to keep your dishes and benches neat and tidy. Seems an oversight not to provide those. The fridge is a full sized one. The bathroom does not have much vanity space on either side of the basin, for 2 people, and i could not lay out all my items that I'd be using. Unusually, the closet entrance was in the bathroom, though it could easily have been accessed from outside, had the door been situated on the exterior wall. It was a strange layout. Not awful, just unusual. Though, the closet doors are mirrored, so maybe its good that they're in the bathroom. We had 2 queen beds, and here we get to my pet peeve wth hotels. They tuck the bedding in so tight, that you feel like you're in a straitjacket. And in this particular case, the bedding came up to my shoulder, so i was constantly wrenching and pulling, to try and make it come up high enough to snuggle into. I had to get up, move the heavy ottoman away from the end of the bed, and wrench the stupid sheets and duvet out, just to remake the bed to how i want it, and how i wanted it, was with the bedding a foot higher than it's current placement. I'm picky with pillows, i like a memory foam pillow, i just can't get comfortable on regular pillows, and end up punching them in aggravation. I wish I'd brought my own from home. It would be nice if hotels gave you a choice, and offered an alternative type of pillow. We did have a sea view, so that was nice. However it was horrible weather when we were down, snowing, gray, and very dark, and the power went out on Friday 13th, so there was nothing to do but nap. I found it unusual that at 11pm, a shutter is closed across the lobby area, and you don't have access to any staff till the next morning. Maybe that's due to it not being tourist season, but I've never stayed in a hotel where there weren't staff in the reception area 24/7. There is a limited vending machine situated inside the laundry room, with a soda machine and bottled water machine. Water was $3, whilst soda was $1. Of course the healthy choice is way more expensive. I'd have liked one of those convenience stores so you can always obtain what you need. Most hotels have them these days. Fortunately, it's situated right across the road from Safeway which is very handy. I'd stay here again, it's not bad.
