The grounds are small enough to walk to the water quickly and is situated on a hill so all cabins offer a beautiful view of the lake. It is very quiet, without being far off the beaten path. Cabins have a small kitchen, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, sink, coffee maker with accruements. King sized bed (upstairs), bathroom with soap and shampoo from Alaskan local makers. We stayed in cabin 7 (Chenik) that was closer to the road than lake. Cabins 1, 2 are located in a the block and face the water (closest to the water). Staff is friendly and helpful, attending to needs quickly. If you're looking for the Alaska experience sans corporate hotel, this is the way to go.

The food is amazing, the staff is amazing, and the accommodations are luxuriously rustic (rustically luxurious?). During our stay, we went on privately-guided hike and kayak trips, had a gorgeous private sunset boat ride through Tutka Bay, and man, they really make the most of that epic deck space. Over 48 hours, it featured morning yoga, fishing, anemone-viewing, a helicopter landing, and glorious, glorious hammock naps. All of this is included. So is wine. And a massage. Tutka was a real highlight of an incredible trip to Alaska - I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Finding the office was a bit confusing but once we did find it there were two ladies in the office. One of them (older one) pretty much scowled at us while the other one (younger one) politely informed us that our room was not ready yet since we had arrived a bit early. She awkwardly asked if there was something we could do for an hour while the room was ready. We went about our way and while in the car I was thinking about this interaction (my first impression). My husband aaked "did you notice that lady was scowling at us?" And I said "yep, I don't know why. Maybe she didn't realize that she was doing that". We shrugged and decided to visited town while waiting on our cabin. We arrived later in the afternoon and were greeted by someone completely different. This time we were greeted by a very warm and cheerful couple whom I believe must be the owners. They were very welcoming and so helpful. The lower Moose Caboose was very homey and almost reminded me of a small studio or apartment. I thought it would be an actual Caboose but it wasnt. Despite this I was very pleased with all of the amenities. This place was nicely decorated and in great condition. The view was also beautiful! Overall we had a wonderfully peaceful time. Our warm greeting from the owners, and our experience with the cabin itself was a great experience. I'll definitely pass up the scowl any time :-) but would definitely return. The lower Moose Caboose is excellent for a couple looking for a nice, peaceful time in Homer. Definitely recommend!

The lodge is beautiful, Chef Julius is amazing and the staff could not have been more fun! Watching the otters and bald eagles from the deck was a daily must! And the sunsets...absolutely spectacular! They set us up for fishing with Captain Ron, who was not only a great wealth of information, but an all-around great guy! All fishermen/women in our group caught their limit each day! A few of us decided to do the Glacier Lake hike and loved it! What gorgeous views! Overall, the only thing we would change is coming home without Chef Julius! We became VERY spoiled by his cooking! If you're looking for adventure with all the amenities...try fishing, (there's also hunting and kayak/canoe rentals nearby), hiking or just relax at Cove Peaks Lodge. Northwind normally does bear viewing tours which are pretty straightforward, but we had a group of…read more15 with very complicated logistics on a wilderness camping & packrafting trip. They needed 2 planes to pick us up from one location in the Kachemak Bay State Park to bring us to another spot. Not all of us could fit on both planes with our gear, so one plane had to come back to get the rest of the crew. Additionally, 1 member of our group was set to go straight back to Homer them; at the last minute, 2 others also decided to go to Homer as well. We also brought them a ton of gear before our trip which they also flew in. They also flew back to Homer with our trash and some extra gear so we had less to carry out of the park. Overall it was 7 flight legs between the two planes! There was a little bit of back and forth as we had set up a single 3pm pick up, but they had mechanical issues and initially offered separate 3pm and 7pm pickups instead. When we pushed a little (one couple in our group had just gotten married and this was essentially their honeymoon!), they agreed to a single 2pm pickup which worked out perfectly. As a sidenote our pilot unfortunately dropped his phone in the water when dropping us off. He came back the next day with a strong magnet to try to fish it out but did not succeed. We made him a burrito, which he very much appreciated, and the helped us out by bringing even more of our trash back to Homer for us.

We went in late August. The operator knew that the salmon had recently stopped running, and without…read moresalmon, there are no bears. It's a long expensive trip to see non-existent bears. We saw one bear laying in the falls and two in opening to the river. There are many spots to see a couple of bears without spending the day and a lot of money. The only service provided by the tour operator is ethe flight there and back as the rest is provided by the park services. The other problem is the viewing platform is stuffed with people (despite no bears). I can only imagine the crowd when there are bears so getting on the platform will be a problem.
