My room was very clean, the main area was impeccable and the pool area was very nice. I was very impressed with everything. The staff - from the front desk to the maids - were friendly and helpful. I had 5 kids with me so if you were going to get crabby with a guest - it should've been me. One kid spilled an entire glass of apple juice everywhere ... then knocked ALL the utensils on the floor at breakfast (like 100 spoons, etc). The girl working the front desk was also manning the breakfast area, and she just pleasantly helped me clean it up with no issue. I will definitely stay in this location again.

It was a little after 11 and we were the only ones in the pool. An employee came in and told us that the pool was closed to kids at 11 and if anyone came in to pack up and leave right away. The reason this was an issue was we were already told we could swim and the employee had an extremely rude attitude. If we had known that kids could not swim after 11 we wouldn't have even bothered using the pool facilities.

The let down part was all staff related. The check in (even though I did the "pre-check in" before I got there) took way longer than I expected. But I do expect something! This morning, right around 8am I walked in to find an empty pan that I'm assuming at one time had some kind of meat and possibly a potato? They did have a waffle maker, but I'm not a sugar eater, so didn't want that. There was some muffins etc., but nothing hot available. Looked around, nobody behind the check in desk. A cleaning cart was parked pretty much right in front of the elevator, but no sign of life! There was a door that was open that had a break room or an office area, that's where I found a few employees sitting at a table. I asked if anyone was going to replenish the breakfast and the cleaning lady (assuming from the hallway cart) said to the manager "the breakfast must be empty". The manger quickly walked into the breakfast area, looked at the empty tray and said "it's going to be a while for breakfast". Needless to say, coffee and a hard boiled egg today! Hotel... Not bad. Staff.... Needs improvement!

There were six of us, so we rented the entire attic, which was perfect for our group. The rooms were unique, the beds were comfortable, and even with the summer heat, our rooms stayed cool. Our host, Larry, was truly incredible and so hospitable. He knows Stillwater inside and out and had wonderful recommendations for where to eat and what to see. He even suggested we take a drive up to Marine on St. Croix, about 10-15 minutes north of Stillwater, and we loved it. There is so much history to explore, plus a winery nearby. I recommend it too, if you are staying more than one night. Larry also thought of the little details, like setting out a puzzle he thought we would enjoy. Every evening at 5, the inn hosts happy hour with wine and a beautiful charcuterie spread. The rooms in the attic each had their own charm. The Jane Austen room was my favorite-it was especially cozy and even had a steam shower! Perfect place with great restaurants/ cocktail bars and things to do. Not to mention the Rivertown Inn! It's been a few years since we've stayed here and we opted for the Oscar Wilde room. We will be back to stay here again! The others rooms we've stayed at in the past have also been beautiful, but this one takes the cake! Another perk to this place is the breakfast made by their phenomenal vegan chef. I don't eat pork and she whips up an awesome meal that makes me wish she could cook for me daily. We'll things calmed down after lots left for the wedding. Fortunately it really was pretty quiet during the night. I was kind of ready for noise with people returning from the wedding. The bed was very firm so I didn't sleep too well but I guess that's the breaks of staying in a hotel. We did go to the pool and there was a funky smell and the water was greenish. I think it needs a good cleaning or something with the filter. Our suits did have a weird smell so I soaked them when we got home. Hopefully they'll be ok. We did appreciate the bottle of water we got at check in. Thank you. As for breakfast there was no where to sit so we decided not to stay. That was a bummer. We come over to Menomonie often so we'll see.
