I've been struggling with how to share my viewpoints on where Bayside is heading as a church for a few months now but I finally felt equipt enough to write a review on them. I have attended Bayside pretty regularly for the past five years and while I've definitely seen the church go through it's share of ups and downs, I have loved being a member of this Christian community. I have made many great friends and my faith and maturity have grown greatly from the teachings they have provided and the community I've been a part of. No church is perfect, however something has changed in the past year with Bayside. I don't know if it was always there and I am just noticing it because God has given me the discernment to do so, or if the things I have been witnessing are new, but either way the changes are not good. Several red flags have come to my attention over the past year or so that have seriously made me consider wanting to find a new church. For the most part, Bayside has always been a great expository verse by verse teaching church with their focus being on the Gospel and Word of God as well as serving the community. I have begun to see a dangerous trend though in their worship, the preaching styles lately, who they promote from the pulpit, and the topics of their weekly messages. Bayside has "weekend" worship team who are talented musicians but they choose generic contemporary worship music to sing each week. I am not saying they need to be writing their own music, but I wish they chose better worship songs. What I mean by that is for the most part, all Bayside sings is Hillsong songs. That is not bad in and of itself. Many Hillsong songs are biblical and come from a great heart of worship for the Lord. Bayside unfortunately has done more than just sing the songs of Hillsong. Several times, especially in the past year or so, Bayside has praised Hillsong church in their sermons as well. The Hillsong community of churches are word-of-faith humanistic Pentecostal ministries that preach primarily the prosperity gospel of health and wealth. This is false doctrine and so incredibly dangerous, especially for a church with such a large world-wide platform. Sin and repentance are barely ever preached from a Hillsong pulpit, not to mention so many of their other campuses are so trendy it hurts. I question the discernment of Bayside pastors when they support dangerous ministries like Hillsong. Recently as well, the worship team sang a Jesus Culture song. I won't get into the details of Jesus Culture (just google "is Jesus Culture worship bad"), but stemming from Bethel church in Redding, California, Jesus Culture is false to the core. We as Christians should have nothing to do with their heresy. What we do when we promote their music is we tell people we support their ministries too (the Bible is very clear about how we should handle false teachers.) Unknowing new Christians will seek out where the songs came from and start adding the church podcasts to their phones or watching their sermons online and be fed false messages leading them away from the cross. I can genuinely say that over the past five years Bayside has done an amazing job preaching God's word in interesting and convicting sermons each week. They bring in guest speakers from time to time as well who offer a fresh perspective and I have learned a lot. I've been feeling much less equipt lately though with the messages Bayside preaches. Like I mentioned above, there have been a few times the pastor has used Hillsong in his sermon as a point of encouragement and the audience always reacts in an idolatrous way with awe and wonder. To echo the sentiments of another reviewer here, as of lately, Bayside's messages are all too often lukewarm and provide little in the way of growth or maturity for the Christain's life. I have always enjoyed the Bayside sermon series in the past but lately, I am noticing with each new sermon they preach, how much more they are starting to resemble the prosperity gospel. Overall, I think Bayside has been a pillar in our community when it comes to serving one another, and there are definitely solid Christians who love Jesus and want to grow their faith, but something dangerous is changing the church's focus in a bad way and I'd say if I had to recommend a church for a new believer or seasoned Christian alike, I'd say look somewhere else. Sadly I've seen them grow into a church who cares more about attendance and making people feel good than tending to their flock and building up genuine believers. I am praying for the leadership of Bayside and if you do go there, my best advice would be to test everything they do and say to Scripture. If you start seeing things not align with God's Word and heart, pray for the church and pray for wisdom and direction from the Lord on whether or not Bayside is a healthy fit for you as a Christian community. read more

The program provides a structured yet incredibly supportive environment where I can confront my past, work through my struggles, and celebrate the progress I've made. One of the most transformative aspects of Celebrate Recovery here is the Step Study. I had the privilege of going through Step Study, and it was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. The deep reflection and introspection I went through during that time helped me uncover and heal from wounds I didn't even realize I had. The small group format provided an intimate and supportive atmosphere where I could share my journey without fear of judgment. Hmmm, what is the meaning of the church? Why would you go to church? I thought we come to church for prayer and holly spirit power.... To see and feel Gods power? Come To get a Ninja power at bayside church? See, if u can be Ninja. What happened to prayer power? Holly spirit power? What happened to simple church power in the name of Jesus? In the old days you would come to church to become a son/daughter of God. Now u come to church to become a Ninja. Bayside not only has a "Snobby" reputation on the streets, but the people they have running it are prejudice, discriminating, ugly, fake, liars, and ignorant. The leaders refuse to seek knowledge that would better lives, bring people together under God, and refuse to be open minded. I filed a police report today on discrimination against the church. My wife and son have been coming to Bayside for years, heavily devoted to volunteering, being good Christians, and devoted to God, and was told by ignorant people that I'm not allowed to take part in any Marriage class, any class for that matter to better myself, our marriage due to me being Muslim! I'm "allowed" only to go to the regular service and that's it. Really?! Bayside was built for GOD, not for a business. I gladly give my life over to God, would stand up for what's right for anyone, no matter Christian, Jew, Muslim, Catholic, etc... for that's what God's about, Love one another! So I would beware of what information you soak in, for they talk a lot in ignorance. I was told, "being that you aren't Christian you are not welcomed at Bayside, can not participate in any classes, and can no longer attend the marriage class." My wife and I have been going there for a month, I cooked and baked for them and this is what happens? They started a fight with My Family, With God, for what they just did to our Family is no where in the Bible! The Bible preaches the exact opposite of what Bayside does under the radar. That tried to convert me by minipulative tactics, trying to divide my wife and I, guilt tripping us, and by trying to force us to conform to what "they" wanted! This fight/war that Bayside has started with my Family will not stop and I will do all God allows me to do to make sure this never happens again, that the people involved are disciplined properly and taken from their positions, and that the People know what's going on with a building and resources that were meant to serve God, not the churches own agenda. I have attended this church a couple of times by my sister's invitation. Basically you can't think of bayside church as a church really, it's more of a self help guru meeting place with various help programs for sex addicts, and alcoholics. Which seems like a positive thing at first but it does give you an idea of the kind of attendees it attracts, "mostly people struggling with addictions". Now this is not really a bad thing everyone needs some help sometimes. But my issue is with the way their Pastor spends a majority of the time telling people they need to give 10% of their income and he goes to great lengths talking about this. Ray Johnston their Pastor is in fact not even a registered minister, he's a a self proclaimed self help guru/ ceo of bayside llc. so case in short I believe he's making an awfully good living off of peoples donations, "so i think some attendee's need to ask themselves before donating money what kind of house/car does Ray Johnston have?" not to mention all the "Pastors" he's hired in at his attendees expense. To make my point it only takes one priest and a couple of volunteer's to run a huge catholic church, but Bayside seems to have 10-15 pastors all on payroll interesting huh! They are really a branch of the Evangelical's, and the whole ceremony seems like a cheesy christian rock concert, complete with strobes and other lighting effects, and the music was awful I'm not trying to be mean but there is some christian rock I like, but this stuff was just plain awful I mean worse than Creed terrible if you need to catch my drift. Just remember this is the cousin church of Ted Haggard, actually some of the church's Pastor's are from Haggard's church, and we all now that story so attendee's and donor's beware! read more

The idea that criticizing the church is like insulting Christ's bride misunderstands His nature--Jesus confronted hypocrisy with truth, not violence (Matthew 5:39; John 18:36). Additionally, many pastors today function more like celebrities than shepherds--distant and inaccessible. This contrasts with the New Testament model of pastoral care, which emphasizes closeness, accountability, and service (1 Peter 5:1-4). True leadership should reflect humility, courage, and availability--not self-protection or status. read more

Bayside is a okay church to go to. I used to have a really good experience at bayside until I had to step back from Bayside Davis and young professionals. I didn't hear from bayside about getting a second chance with bayside in Davis and YP. People are super nice at first but most of the people are clicky and didn't want to hang out with me outside of church, females also turn me down all the times I feel left out most of the times but I met some good people at bayside. Bayside church is so huge, they have a fancy coffee shop, lot of activities, a basketball court, lot of ministries. I think bayside feels more like a business than an actual church. sermons were okay but not as biblical as other churches as they can get political at times, I seen some people getting hurt from bayside. Bayside church it's a cool church to go for events like conferences, car shows and other events which I still go for. The worship music was too loud to some people and I lift my voice when I sing while I worship. I haven't gone to bayside for service for 2 years since I left bayside 2 years ago. I go to another church and have a better relationship with god. read more

Stay away! This is the worst church I have ever been to. The "leadership" and pastors are super corrupt. They don't pay taxes and scam members. Definitely not men of God. This is a godless church and dangerous for people who are actually good. The pastors have allowed 2 drug addicted, alcoholic, violent, thieving, fraudulent, murderous, psychopathic serial killers to continue their evil deeds here for years. Their names are Denise Bogard (who is not a Bogard because she murdered her first of 4 ex husbands and has been trying to kill her 3 children ever since. 1 is already dead) and Paul Phillips who is the male version of Denise. He shops for new victims at church. The pastors and other church members are fully aware of this and allow it. The Celebrate Recovery program members are the worst. It's supposed to be a Christian version of AA but there isn't a single member who has done the 12 steps or who practices Christian values. Both Denise and Paul are members so you know these are horrible people. Toxic enablers and accomplices. Worst church ever. This isn't a house of God. It's a house of the Devil. read more

Hi:) this is a comment to Melanies review... I go to Bayside...It's great you like it! I look at Bayside not as a social/spiritual organization, but the body of Christ - which Christ tells us we are once we accept Christ. Christ is working today through true believers, ones that have accepted him and by faith trust Him for their salvation. The Bible tells us that once we accept Christ, we have Christ in us - by the Holy Spirit. There are many things the Bible tells us...one of which is that it is the Word of God. You can trust it and live by it. You can trust 100% of the Bible. It's easy to get caught up in religious activities of Bayside and being religious and good. But even though it's not preached a lot at Bayside, you must be Born Again - experience a complete spiritual renewal by accepting Christ and His Word into your life, and understanding that Jesus is Lord. It's not about religion or a fun church for people who don't like church - it's about Christ. Ref. Book of John Chapter 3, and Pauls letter to the Colossians-all chapters. My daughter (almost 12) and myself have made Bayside Church in Granite Bay our home church over 4 years ago. Being a single mom with 100% custody of my beautiful daughter Bayside has always been there regardless of the size of our church. Many people may think a large church as ours does not care, BUT I am here to tell you the very truth. I lost my mom on April 30th ,2009. I was attending THRIVE , on the first day of THRIVE upon driving home afterwards I recieved the phone call ,my mom had passed away. I returned to Bayside Church For the second day of Thrive ,Feeling I needed to be there. I was immidiately circled by friends and people who are now Family. The pastor in Community Care was there for me along with other pastors. I had met knew people who are now my family. Bayside Church in Granite Bay may be large ,but we never have any type of divisons in our church. This is an amazing church for people at any stage of their life or walk with God. From people who have never believed in God, Bayside presents a clear gospel message every weekend... to people who have been walking with God all along, there's always deep messages built around scripture. I have my Masters in Theology and am always learning each weekend through the teaching. I also know that weekend messages aren't meant to fill you up entirely for the week, you have to read the Bible and get your fill daily (daily bread) and that comes through my own quiet time and small group study. There are plenty of ways to actively serve the church here and this church makes sure we serve our local and global community to help impact the Kingdom for God's glory. I could not be more grateful for this church and for all of the great things we do, lives changed, and people coming to Christ through each event. Love my church and you will too! read more

My wife and I moved to the Roseville area 4 years ago. We wanted to find a new church and had visited a number of churches in the area. After going to Bayside we felt like we were home. The message was very applicable, the worship was fantastic and we loved how this church was so focused on making a difference in this area and abroad. It's a big church so you should know that going in. But, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm greetings we received when we got there. We also visited their Video Cafe which was awesome! It's a smaller venue, with live music and all the perks of the big service. We don't have kids so we can't speak into the children's programs but given the effort that goes into some of the things we see for them on campus and through the year, it's obvious Kids are a priority. All in all, we are being challenged to grow and make life count and we love our church. read more

There is a lot to unpack. But I'll keep it simple. This church supported a group that pro communist and eanta to see god and church removed from society based on race. I realize the church was trying to stand in solidarity with a minority group. But instead. Ended up supporting a pro communist anti Christian group at the end. Now the church is supporting the lie of build back better. That's not following the path of god. The best proof of this. They are not teaching the ten commandments. Which covers everything from respecting God, the family, your home and your neighbors. Regardless of the colornkf their skin. As a native American. I'm disheartened to see a church back a group that stands against the values of the bible, god, family and agaisnt the ten commandments. And its passing to the kids.
