This office has really gone downhill since Dr. Winter's retired and TPMG took over. The office…read morestaff is horrible, particularly the office manager, Melanie Cayor. It is impossible to get a doctor to return a call. The staff is incompetent....they mess appointments up, don't answer the portal in a timely fashion. Sadly, Dr. Balderston has slipped, too. He has not followed up on important issues. Very frustrating and disappointing. I have been at that location for 44 years and am walking away. :( i would notbrecoomd that practice now.

Love the new office building! Since getting off my parents' insurance and setting up such adult…read morelife requirements, I had been the hunt for a new and local doctor. After research, I saw Dr Bester and that my insurance (OptimaHealth) was accepted. Absolutely love my doctor and the nurses who work with her. Everyone is easygoing but looking out for your best interest. For example, I came for a simple prescription refill and during the routine check up she realized how much wax build up I had and offered to flush them out. Never heard of it before but they ensured me everything would be alright! And it was, definitely glad I got it done. Had an appointment at 7:40am on a Monday and was seen at my correct time. Not a long wait for the doctor and everything went smoothly. Everyone at this location are truly kind to include receptionists.

I have been going to Dr. Asuncion for about 30 years or so and cannot say enough about his kindness…read moreand compassion for his patients. I hope I never have to find another PCP because no one in my opinion could replace him.

Is it a natural part of the passage of life when you review more medical practices than night…read moreclubs? Sigh.... If you want a doctor who is not just knowledgable & caring, but also has a fabulous dry wit sense of humor, then Dr. Christopher Asuncion is your man. His "one liners" make going to the doctor a much more relaxed experience. My using Dr. A as a Primary Physician began years ago when my internist retired. A number of people at work went to a large, well established group in the Beach General corridor. So that's the practice I chose. Gradually everyone at work gravitated to Dr. A, a member of that practice at the time. When he left to found Mid-Atlantic Family Medicine, we all followed him. Dr. Asuncion isn't the type of Doctor you feel is rushing you out of the exam room. He will listen to your ailments & symptoms as long as you want to talk. And he remembers not just your medical conditions but also your family, interests & activities. Whenever I have one of my semi-regular sinus infections he will make sure that his staff works me into his always full schedule. And he will do his best to knock it out in the shortest time possible, especially if I have an important upcoming activity planned. It's quite humorous when he walks in the room & the first thing he says is "Got it again?" His decisions regarding whether you should be referred to a specialist for a newly diagnosed condition are prompt & correct. I've always been very happy with his specialist choices. An on-site lab technician eliminates the hassle of having to go to a hospital for blood work. Electronic transmission of prescriptions eliminates the need to carry a script to the pharmacy & make a return trip to pick it up, Access to the doctor is extremely easy. He is available by email, either responding by email or having his nurse or the office staff call. All are responsive & pleasant. The only down side to a one man family medicine practice is that he does need vacations & time off. His PA handles the chores in his absence. But of course I prefer Dr. A. The office is located in the Bon Secours Medical Building off South Plaza Trail, just north of Princess Anne Road. Both the building and the office convey the feelings of new, nicely decorated, clean & well lit. The spacious glass walls offer one an outside view that makes waiting in an exam room much more acceptable that four closed in walls. And the exam rooms are a nice size, rather than claustrophobic. Parking is plentiful and laid out so that it's always an extremely short walk to the entrance. Regular parking spaces are just as convenient as the handicapped slots. There is a covered drive-thru at the entrance, so one can drive an elderly or infirm patient directly to the door. Wheel chairs are available in the building lobby for their further use. Walk into the door at Mid-Atlantic Family Medicine and you are greeted pleasantly by your name. (Does this mean I go to the doctor too often?) It's a much more pleasant experience than the check-in ogre's at some medical practices who give one the feeling that you are interfering with their day. There must be a check-in ogre school, since so many have the same technique. Now I'm thinking of the one liner Dr. A would come up with if he read this review. I'm pretty certain I know exactly what it would be. So I'll just close on a serious note. Thank you for taking care of us Dr. A. You are very much appreciated.

The only reason I'm not giving it the lowest score is because I am very fond of my General…read morePractitioner, Raymond Iglacia Jr. & GYN Dr Hubert as I have been a patient there for over 5 years. I even continued to drive to VB after moving to Chesapeake a little over a yr ago, because I liked my doctors so much. I was surprised to see other recent bad reviews on here already, but it seems the majority are saying the same thing! Lately the staff has become unbearable. They are unfriendly, unprofessional and not interested in giving good customer service. Guess what patients are customers and paying ones!!! The office manager Dawn, is no help and just as unpleasant to deal with when your having to continuously call to verify that your needs are being addressed, to find at the end of the day they never were addressed and it's a Friday & everyone in the office except for Dawn has left, it's a holiday weekend & you have to wait 5 days to fill a script for a medication you're not supposed to come off of quickly. Last month they called me, my GP had a emergency and they needed to reschedule my appointment & offered me another doctor I had never seen before in his place. I had when he was unavailable seen another Dr, so I agreed, it was only a 15 min med appointment. I go every 3 months for. I'm in my 50's & had been out Christmas shopping & had my 2 young granddaughters with me. Knowing it was just vitals taken & waiting for scripts I didn't think it would be a problem. It wasn't for them, however I was furious upon leaving. The Nurse Practitioner I saw in my MD place, was wrong on every topic she mentioned, having to re-look at my chart, she only wanted to give me 1 month script vs the 3 months I always get, claiming I was late in keeping my appointments, which I had to explain...Um its been 3 months and this is my appointment & that my deductible for the year had been met & I will have to start that over next month and the cost and inconvenience that would be for me. She was also persistent in telling me in front of my grandchildren that I needed to see a shrink at least once a year to be on the medication. She was reluctant but wrote 3 months, and then repeated the shrink thing again. I received her referral to Tidewater Psychiatric within 24 hrs, she didn't even refer me to someone within the practice??? I take the script to the pharmacy to be told that it wasn't able to be filled out because she misspelled things and the entire prescription was not written correctly, none of them! Now I'm wondering which one of us needs the shrink visit! I call They asked the pharmacy to fax them the scripts so they could have a visual, which the pharmacy did. They claimed they didn't receive it, I called the pharmacy back they re-faxed it. I called to make sure they received it and they did assuring me it would be taken care of before the end of the day....well the ending is above where Dawn was the only one in the office & had an excuse for everything I have written, what she didn't have was empathy or concern about my going without over holiday. I work in retail so wow no med's the busiest week of the year, they were going to make sore I needed a shrink visit! Today at 8:40 am the pharmacy faxed over papers for my insurance that needed authorization & It took several calls to them and I finally had to call the pharmacy back & go pay out of pocket (with a coupon thankfully) because the pharmacist said if they hadn't sent it to insurance yet, I probably would not get it today, since it would then have to be reviewed. Dawn called as I walked into pharmacy to let me know they did their part, it just took them 6 hours to do it! You'd think with all the years I have came once every 3 months plus and how bad my experience last month was and when I reminded Dawn of that she said "yes I have it documented" sincerity at it's finest! Again no expression of empathy or good customer service. I'm going to hate hiring another Dr. and yes that's how I view finding a Dr. He provides a service I'm paying good money for, I work hard for insurance I pay for that coverage that pays a portion of those fees on top of the copay their office gets at the time of your appointment.! I however have to terminate myself from this unprofessional office staff. Maybe I'll search Yelp for best reviews in my area!
