I loved my visit to Bazar. i was told this was an old church turned restaurant. Inside is double story with a colourful and vibrant décor. There is a bar right in the centre. There is so many places to sit and candles on each table. The food came out really fast and the meals are huge and really well priced. They tasted so good as well. Not many people gave this place that good of a review but I would definitely go there again and have been telling everyone I know that is going to Amsterdam to stop in. read more

Pretty good Turkish/ Persian/ Middle East restaurant in the De Pijp neighborhood. Looks like an old church turned into a restaurant but the inside is quite nice and large enough that waits aren't such a big deal. The food is decent, ordered the mixed grill and meat stew which were pretty good, but not great. Prices aren't cheap for the neighborhood but service was very friendly. It's a fun atmosphere so it could be worth it for that. read more

Bazar made a pleasant lunch stop on a hot day here in Amsterdam. We give Bazar four stars for the following: 1. Cool ambience, as described by the other reviewers. 2. They have an "allergy chart" for your review that shows which dishes are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, etc. -- very helpful to those of us with dietary restrictions. 3. When we asked for tap water, they cheerfully brought us two large glasses of cold water, and later, two more. They did charge us 1 euro total for the tap water, but that seemed reasonable. We also ordered beer. 4. We had the falafel with harissa and the aubergine salad, but of which were very good. The portions are large. 5. Inexpensive. 6. Nice bathrooms. 7. Cheerful and pleasant wait staff, if not always the most attentive. read more

Good things: Accommodates large groups and a lot of people easily. Food is very affordable and the portions are HUGE. Service is relatively quick for such a big place. The interior is very unique. Almost everyone I know recommends it highly. Not so good things: Honestly, like some other reviewers, I found the food quite uninspired. Stopped in for late lunch around 3 pm, and was not disappointed. The menu has a wide selection to choose from. I am sure this place would be very cool for dinner with a group. Have been here many times over the last 10 years but hadn't been here so much in past year. It seems to have definitely gone downhill. I usually always order the chicken kebab which is usually mouthwatering and more than I can finish. This time (last week), when they brought out the plate, my first thought was ... where's the rest of it? On the plus side, it wasn't hard to get a last second reservation (albeit on a Tuesday night) with kids. But I don't know if I'd really come back. Service was ok. Had to ask several times for water and drinks but that's Amsterdam, right? I agree with some of the others, this place lacks a bit of something given it's been around for so long. It's big, spacious and great for a large group. But if you're looking for something that's a bit more special, check out another place. Or go to Maoz. read more

I have eaten here more than once and failed to enjoy the dishes I ordered. The last time I visited, I was with a fairly large group and they were less than accommodating from start to finish. When it was time to pay the bill, they fought us about splitting up the bill so different people could use their pin cards. I find that laughable and deplorable in a city like Amsterdam where it is culturally the norm to pay individually. I vowed to never return and haven't since. It's a restaurant to go to with a group of friends. It's big, busy, colorful and something different. I've been coming here every now and then for the past 9 years. I have to say portions used to be bigger... The food is still OK and the ambiance makes it a better experience than it actually is, I think. Because it gets quite busy I noticed that sometimes the staff seems to wanna get rid of you straight after you finish your meal. So they can go onto the next.... That's a bit of a shame. Nice place to have a good meal in an interesting atmosphere. The portions here are huge and quite cheap for Amsterdam's standards. I had fish couscous and it had giant pieces of tuna in it. The shrimp were also great. For desert I had coffee Bazar which is similar to getting a café gourmand in France. You get coffee and a bunch of small deserts. Big portions for good price. I am a fan! They have delicious vegetarian options and it was very cozy. Both the fish soup and the lentils soup are delicious! Worth a visit just for them! The cous cous was a little disappointing, though, because the grains were undercooked. Oh, Bazar. How I want to rank this restaurant better. First, the good things -- the food is good for the value. It's reasonably priced, you get a lot of it, and it is tasty. Which is why I keep going back despite hit or miss service, which is the bad part. Last time, we even had our order lost, which because we had completely unattentive wait staff, we had to chase them down so that we could get our order, 45 minutes later. I think this a solid place, with some hits (the Persian lamb stew) and some misses (the Oasis dessert). The decor is something out of Turkey/Morocco and the bathroom tiles are worth the visit. The restaurant's interior design is unique and the serving trays are extreamly large which is impressive to me. It is loud, colourful and sparkly. A nice open restaurant with unique setting that resembles a mosque or synagogue, and delicious food at a reasonable price. Visited on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch (16:00). Seated at a table for 2 on the upstairs balcony, which made for a nice view during the meal. The service was terrible by my standards, but pretty much the mediocre standard for Amsterdam. It was by no means busy (below 50% capacity) , but after waiting 10 minutes for a server to come to us with menus, we got up and fetched our own. We decided on an appetizer, drinks, and mains and wanted to order straight away after seeing how long it took to get the attention of a server. We ordered a tea and a large orange juice (which was about 300ml and 4 euros, a quite ridiculous price) and a hummus and bread. The hummus and bread arrived about 10 minutes later. The drinks didn't arrive until 25 minutes later - after we had asked two different servers about them - after we had completely finished our app... if there's one thing I hate, it's being given something to eat without a drink. Dinner came promptly thereafter, I had lamb with yoghurt and my boyfriend had a big shishkebab meal. We wanted to order a bottle of sparkling water at this point which took another 15 minutes or so... then when the water arrived, the waiter dropped the ice bucket with the bottle and the glasses (still stacked) on our table. For the price of bottled water, I expect the glasses be set out for each of us and the bottle top at least unscrewed (and really, it should be poured as well). The portions were quite generous, especially for the very reasonable price (except the drinks), and the meat was juicy and tender. The food was so good we decided to have a dessert, despite the terrible service. We ordered the thousand hole pancakes with ice cream to share and that came promptly as well. Getting the bill again proved to be a chore with the service... Overall a nice change of pace from the typical Amsterdam restaurant ambience. Great value for the money, however the overall experience was really marred by the terrible service. Could have been 4 stars, but more like 2.5. read more

I was so excited to get some middle eastern food as plenty of people rave about this place. Maybe recently coming from Egypt & traveling around the area has made me a snob...but I must say I was not that impressed. Food lacked the flavor I remember from Turkey, Lebanon, & Egypt. Easy reservations and not too crowded at 530 on a Saturday night. Got more and more crowded after 6. Food was very good, portions generous, and price was good for Amsterdam.
