Cakebox is the latest in this line of shops I thought I would never set foot in - cake toppings don't you know, the shop has lots - all weird and wonderful and aimed at more traditional affairs than we intend to go for. They have 'cartooney' figurines as well but again not to our (her) taste! The shop is packed with lots of frilly paraphernalia and wedding and cake decoration stuffs, I didn't know half of it existed but I recognise some of the tools as having eaten their handiwork in the past! The space is simple with one side of the store lined with pastry and dessert cases where all the goods are held and served from. The rest of the space is seating and shelving for other packaged products. At the back there is a couple of windows giving you a view into the kitchen where the magic happens. Our visit here was between breakfast and lunch, so we grabbed a pear and apple tart to share. The tart was divine! The tart crust was flaky, yet sturdy while the filling was perfect consistency and featured the right amount of fruit. The cream on the side added a bit of texture and sweetness with each bite. Service was friendly and helpful from entry to exit. The space was well kept and clean. The staff was actively cleaning tables between guests. Overall, solid find in the Stillorgan Village Centre!

It makes me sound like an intrepid explorer, bravely overcoming all the elements and impossible climbs the Stillorgan shopping centre and mother nature can throw at me, but in truth, it is a little less dramatic. There is any amount of fresh breads, a little island in the middle with bakers decorating cakes and such an array of cakes, buns, éclairs and tarts that I could barely bring myself to make a choice. I settled for a cream filled doughnut, it was spectacular, huge and only 2 euro. Q wobbles out of shop, in a penguin like manner shouting "I'll be back!" to anyone who will listen. Because every single thing about it is nice. The food, the service, the fact that it hasn't turned into a big shop selling crap and has rather stayed as a small shop selling good things. It is a shop that allows for buyers remorse only in the sense that you wished you'd bought more. I realise at this point that I should probably talk about the food but frankly that's been already so I won't bother. What I will say is that they have the best, most incredibly phenomenal chocolate brownies that the world has ever known. Also the coffee they sell is good stuff too! On another note the staff are perfectly wonderful. They are friendly, they are helpful and they actually seem to enjoy working there. Having said that, if I got to sit with chocolate brownies all day I'm fairly sure I'd enjoy it too :) You might wonder why I only gave 4 stars. The answer is that they don't appear to do macaroons any more, or at least they didn't the last time I went in. A small thing but a thing nonetheless.

You will notice they are all italian which gave me an even more confident my coffee would be amazing. #2: Vegan option: I'm not vegan but they have great vegan option for vegans. But the non-vegan options were delicious as well. The croissant I ordered was buttery, and flaky. The strawberry jam tastes like home made without any added sugar. #3: Affordability: Compared to Dublin, this place is a steal. Finally: A++ go get your coffee and food so you can go walk around Bray or even hike up that mountain.

It only holds about 15 people. But the food, coffee, and service is about as good as it gets. These people are passionate about what they do. I come specifically for the awesome vegan Caravaggio sandwich (on ciabatta). Everything is freshly made by them and unlike anything you will get anywhere else. Except maybe Italy! There are usually lots of Italian customers there, speaking Italian. This is a very good sign. The place is full of interesting old books people are free to browse. A quirk is an underlying 'cat' theme. Quotes and pictures about cats all over. Hand drawn images of cats by customers also adorn the walks, as to Italian record albums. I come way out of my way to come here regularly and will continue to as long as possible. Note: their fabulous bread selection comes fresh daily from the Firehouse bakery in Delgany.
