After not getting tattoos since the 90's at age 18, I thought long and hard about whether or not I really wanted to get a half sleeve tattoo. After talking to Pete, I explained what I wanted and brought in some samples that he could size them up on my arm. I have to say, I couldn't be happier!!! I get tons of compliments and this tattoo signifies being a mother who lives with a chronic illness. Pete might remember me as the zebra lady, and he wanted me to come back so he could take pictures of it, but I never made it back up there. Pete, I will make it up there sometime within the next few months so you can take pictures of the stunning half sleeve you did for me! I don't think it could've turned out any better!!! I went in three months ago to get a forward helix piercing and while the service was good, meaning that the staff was nice, they could only pierce me with surgical steel and a hoop that was too big for my anatomy. I had so many issues with it, piercing bumps and so much irritation, and eventually had to go elsewhere to change it to a titanium hypoallergenic stud. I tried calling the shop twice and they never answered. PLEASE do not do what i did if you're getting a helix cartilage piercing!! read more

I WISH I COULD GIVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW TO THIS PLACE. I went in & paid $50 for a nose ring. After a month of constantly cleaning it and having no idea why it was infected. I came home to Chicago and went to my tattoo shop. As I was there he looked at it and asked me if I had done it myself. Things the piercer did wrong: 1) He put it in diagonally & not straight 2) Used the wrong hoop a. It was the hoop used for ears & not noses b. So it was too small c. Which didn't let the ring enough room to heal d. So it started shifting (SO PAINFUL) 3) HE WAS RUDE overall, do not go here for a piercing. It is a waste of money. I had Erin do my 2nd tattoo after hearing a ton of people recommended her! I had a quick consultation a few weeks before I got the tattoo where she really made sure exactly want I wanted. The money for the consultation also went to the cost of the tattoo itself! With the tattoo itself, she did it quick but she wasn't rushing and took her time! The line work on my tattoo was amazing. The facility was very clean and she was so fun to talk to. I will 100% be going back to her for my next one. This tattoo healed extremely well. read more

Had to jump through some hoops so my 17 year old daughter could get her nose pierced. Took time off work to go to the bank to get my sig notarized, then took time off to come to the appointment with her and am told that because our last names are different, they can't recognize the relationship. Annoying that we weren't told in advance but the sweet young girl at the desk totally took the blame for that an apologized. What was truly infuriating, rude & uncalled for was when some arrogant man came to the counter, would not let me finish a sentence with his interruptions and told me to take it up with the cosmetology board of the state of Kansas. Not only was he talking on top of me, he also stepped all over his female co-worker, who clearly had far superior customer service skills. She was trying to be helpful and was kind and courteous. I came here to get my college impulse piercings. I got two helix piercings and my doubles. I asked if I could get hoops for the helix piercings because I liked them better and they told me I could do that, but after they were healing weird and I did more research, I learned that you are supposed to get studs first and then switch to hoops so that it will heal right. I switched to studs after they were kinda healed a few months after, but now its been 7 months and they still haven't healed right. I just found it strange that they let me pierce my helix with a hoop in the first place. For my doubles, my experience with the piercing was fine, but I wanted to upgrade my jewelry and it was an extra $50 when the two piercings were only $40 in the first place. Very overpriced in my opinion, but it is my fault for choosing to pay $90 for two lobe piercings. read more

I went there last year for my conch piercing, then a couple months later for my septum, then recently for my triple lobes and rook. Every time I've been here I've had a great time. The person at the front desk is always so so kind and helpful. After each piercing I felt a little off so they always got me some juice and had me sit and wait. I cannot recommend this place enough. Brent has done three tattoos for me and I love them all. He is very professional and serious about his work. His prices are reasonable and his station is very clean. You do have to wait awhile for an appointment, but it is totally worth it. I also went to BDC for my first piercing last week and loved Stephanie. A friend and I got our cartilage pierced. Everything was sterile and the whole experience took less than a minute. I will never go anywhere else to get a piercing! Stephanie is fantastic, and really works to get it right the first time. She's opened so many sterile packages for me just to try out ring sizes on two of my piercings that we couldn't decided what diameters to go with! Stephanie's done 4 out of my 9 body piercings, and before she was at Big Daddy's Taylor (who is no longer there... I don't know where she disappeared to) had done my others. Big Daddy's is the place to go. There is usually no wait for piercings, so it works great for spur of the moment ideas. It is kind of on the pricey side, $50 lip rings, $60 for nipples, $40~60 for ear piercings (depends on where), $40 navel, $30 eyebrow. But honestly, I'd much rather pay more and get it done right! I have yet to get tattooed here, but the artist's portfolios laying on the table look absolutely amazing and I can't wait to schedule an appointment with one of them! Remember that tipping makes it hurt less! (They accept Cash, Visa, and Mastercard) Note: Big Daddy's is no longer on 8th. Came in to get a new industrial piercing. They told me the only size they had to was the one they sold me and they assured me it would fit. However once I tried to put it in it was a significantly bigger gauge and wouldn't fit in my ear. After I complained that it was too large they then showed me they had a smaller size. They asked me to pay for it again despite them making the mistake. Wasted money on a piercing that will not fit my ear. read more

I came here to get my conch pierced about 2 months ago. I did a walk in appointment and the wait wasn't really that long. the piercer didn't really say anything to me aside from asking if the dot was in the right place. after, I asked a couple questions which he answered in a rude manner. he didn't go through the aftercare with me which is fine because I have a few other piercings but still. my piercing got infected pretty quickly after I got it even though I was cleaning it properly. today I sadly had to just remove the piercing all together because it started to become more painful. if you're thinking about getting a piercing- I highly suggest going to KC to get it done. read more

My stars were given based on the average of my two experiences, one piercing and one tattoo. After months of planning and excitement I consulted and scheduled an appointment for my first tattoo with Brent on the day of my 18th birthday. Scheduling went very smooth, and the woman at the front desk was a sweetheart no matter how many times I called back to check in during the week before my tattoo. I anxiously sat through the school day looking forward to my 2:30 session, until I got a call around noon informing me that Brent had been sick for a few days and wouldn't be available for my appointment that day; STRIKE ONE. I stubbornly rescheduled to only two days later. When it was finally time I went into the shop and Brent was available and ready to talk. Turns out, he didn't remember me at all. He had a sketch drawn for a previous client who never showed up that we had agreed to adjust to my liking, along with two other sketches I brought in as references. However, it took him an hour to come up with a single drawing for me that was nothing near the size we discussed; STRIKE TWO. I got over this quickly because although it wasn't what I had planned for, the design was beautiful, and after all this waiting I was ready to start. The session itself lasted two hours, and I ended up paying $175 total. Incredibly low price compared to the $300-400 we had discussed originally. But....... You get what you pay for. Since my tattoo is on my upper back it's difficult to get a good first hand view on it, so I had a friend take a picture and the more I looked the more errors I found. Shaky line work, uneven squares that were supposed to be beads, unsymmetrical, and sloppy; STRIKE THREE. (two stars, because I didn't get any disease, it healed quickly, and I didn't pay too much) My experience with Jeremiah, the piercer for BDC, was wonderful on the other hand. I got a double nose piercing on the day my original appointment got canceled and everything went great. I walked in, filled out some paperwork, got the piercings (for $65), then I was out the door. No wait time, straight to the point, cheap. I love where he placed them and when I came back for my tattoo he even asked me how it was looking/ feeling. That's good customer service. (4 stars, because of the speed and professional demeanor) I will not be returning to BDC for any more tattoos, not even to get this one fixed. I recommend Chris from Lawrence Tattoo Company on 6th and Lawrence Avenue for anyone that doesn't want to learn this lesson the hard way. read more

Moral of the story... DO NOT GO HERE FOR NOSE PIERCING So I saw this place on yelp to get my nose pierced and was itching to get it done so I just assumed that the only people to write piercing reviews happened to be the bad ones..... I was definitely wrong. I do not know much about piercings but here they did not do a good job. Not only were they not very clear with me of how to clean it, the whole process seemed rushed and wasn't great. I got it pierced and it then got super infected and just fell out. I went here because the other Lawrence shop was $75 vs $45 here, PAY THE EXTRA for a good piercing. I since then got it redone at a nice shop in my hometown and they told me that my nose was not piercing in necessarily the right place the first time. I have had 0 issues with my new one and the cleaning/ healing process was 10x better... I am not one to usually write negative reviews but I just don't want someone to make the same mistake I did. I don't think this is a horrible place for tattoos and other things, but nose piercings are not their thing. read more

This review is about the piercer, I haven't gotten a tattoo there so I cannot speak on that front. I got my septum pierced here a few months back and it was healed to the point that I could change it (over 8 weeks). I have never changed it before so I went to BDC with the new jewelry I had just bought and was ready to have it changed out. Even though he knew this was the first time changing my piercing, this guy let me walk out of there with a piercing that was so small on me it started to cut through my skin after a few days and didn't inform me at all it way not the right size for me. I then had to go to my doctor 4 days later because inside my nose was swollen and painful, it even hurt to smile, and one side of the ring was digging into my nose to the point it broke skin. I had to pay $50 to get 6 shots of Novocain into my nose (horrible horrible experience) and sat there while 2 doctors tried to ply this super small septum ring out of my nose for almost 30 minutes. A good piercer should inform you about jewelry size and never let someone walk out with something that is dangerously too small, especially when I obviously didn't know better in the first place. Overall so disappointed and mad, I wish he would give me the $50 back I had to spend correcting his work (not to mention excruciating pain). read more

Went in for a piercing with my friend. We had waited 10 months to be able to go in when we were both back in town and had the same day off. The staff was very rude and were buried in their phones the whole time. Jeremiah was very rushed and didn't explain anything to us. When he pierced my friend the needle got stuck in her lip because it was so bent. This caused her extreme pain when he placed the jewelry and several hours after. Never been so disappointed in customer service. You're better going off going elsewhere. Definitely won't go again, and I can honestly say I don't think they care about that. read more

Store posted hours are noon to 8PM. I showed up at 7PM after calling earlier that afternoon to discuss a tattoo design. The employees were all standing inside the main entrance having a good old time with the doors locked. They just looked at me like I was crazy for trying to do business with them and said, "sorry man, we're closed." This is a poor way to run a business. They ran off a customer that was willing to spend good money at their shop. I'll never try to go back. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time with this place. I'll give it two stars due to the fact that I can't rate the actual artwork personally. read more

Erin has done both of my tattoos now. My first one was on my ribs and she did great with it and the detail in the tattoo. My second one runs all the way down my spine. Erin took her time making sure the template was straight. It was a lot of like work and it looks fantastic. Hardly get as well, if she wasn't talking to me I would have fallen asleep! I made an account just to leave this review. I went here for a tattoo last year and the experience was a bit awkward. I had never dealt with a tattoo artist or piercer before who had made me feel anything other than welcome or comfortable until this visit at BDC. It was my first time there at the shop and I thought it would be a good place to go considering my cousin had been before and her tattoo looked fine to me and the reviews online seemed pretty positive. The artist I had didn't seem rude other than ignoring different attempts at conversation. Someone bumped the table and he snapped at my friend who was a couple of feet away from it and threatened to kick her out. She was pretty confused and shocked when he spoke to her and she took it without arguing with him, not wanting to stir things up. That was pretty awkward and made the rest of the visit really uncomfortable. Other than all of that, the ink seemed fine to me at first. I went home and kept the paper towel on for a couple of hours. When I took it off and examined my new ink, I noticed some little spots in the tattoo where he had missed. It's very obvious and everyone who looks at my tattoo always points out these little pieces of skin where the artist missed. My tattoo never went flat and I never really thought much of it until people pointed out that my skin was still raised and that it wasn't normal. He had gone over everything multiple times which I didn't know at the time wasn't right. He looked like he was coloring in a coloring book on my skin! My mother went in a few months later for a tattoo and he stenciled it and everything but the tattoo still looks awful. Some letters in her tattoo are smushed together and some are too far apart. It truly looks terrible I assumed it was free-handed on her skin until I asked her. There is no excuse for how horrible her tattoo looks, not if he drew it up himself and stenciled it. Hers is worse than mine and it's really disappointing because it was her first tattoo and she's unhappy with the results she got. My tattoo looks alright at first glance but when you actually examine it, the patches of un-inked skin, the shakiness of the lines, and the raised skin are impossible to miss. I was luckier than my mother because mine was a scan I brought from home so all he did was stencil a scan I already had, so I didn't get unlucky enough to have his original hand-drawn sketching tattooed on my skin. All 3 tattoos were done by Steven (cousin, mother, and me). I haven't had any work done by the other artists and I don't know anyone who has had work done by the other artists besides Steven, so I don't wanna shit on the whole place because for all I know they could be great at what they do. The girl at the front desk was always super warm and welcoming, too. I don't recommend going here for Steven but if you wanna give a different artist a shot, all power to you. read more
