I found a children's candle making class at Zane's (on Eventbrite) for $18 per child. I learned once there that this is about a half price discount from the normal price. I was able to register my daughter just one day in advance. On the day of, I needed to bring two children instead of one, and we were running about five minutes late. I called ahead to let them know our arrival time and to ask about registering the second child. The staff member was so kind and made everything very easy, relieving my stress to just drive carefully and get there when we could. The storefront is in a shopping plaza near other people of color owned businesses. There is a shared parking lot and there was plenty of parking. There was one other child/adult team there when we arrived, and they were already into their candlemaking experience. We got set up at a table next to them and the staff member transitioned to us when he could to get my girls started. The candle making experience with so much fun, and even though I decided to play helper to my girls rather than make my own, I learned a lot. I definitely would recommend this class for anyone looking for a hands-on, creative experience, either for adults or children. The class truly did take just about an hour. In the portion where we waited for the candles to set, the girls got to choose a game from the shelf. They chose checkers, so I got to also give them a beginner lesson in that game. It wasn't until this segment of the class that the instructor asked me to settle up for the second child. While I would've been willing to pay as soon as we arrived, I thought it was very generous of him to allow us to just get started with the class and collect the payment when there was a natural break-in activity. This however is when I learned about the pricing difference. He was kind enough to honor the price I paid online, and let me know that they currently have a Groupon special going that often brings the price down in that manner. Once done making their candles, they even got to name and label the candles before their creations were wrapped up in small gift bags for them to take home.

Since most of us (with the exception of one, can't draw a straight line) we enlisted Sheila (the gifted and most pleasant owner of Happy Hands) to ZOOM us through our December meeting. She mailed our supplies (outline-canvas, paints, brush and plate). Sheila set up the Zoom meeting and she was instantly part of our crazy group. Both were very nice and informative. However, One important factor I was unaware of was that you can't sit and wait for your child! I knew nothing about East Point and had to find something to do for an 1 hour and 1/2! I wish I would have know that before hand, I just felt it was odd. Any-who, my son and his friend are older (10 yrs old) and they both had their phone to call me if anything went down. Thought I was paying for my son to draw a Kola Bear or a Guitar. What I got was my son drew a football and his friend a basketball! I was pissed to say the least!!! I asked her why they didn't paint what was being instructed she stated "I wanted them to be artistry free"! I explained to her that they can be "Artistry Free" at home for FREE$. She did state that she would give him another session on her, but I don't think I will waste our time. I blame myself somewhat, I read the comments her on Yelp and they were 50/50 so I knew somewhat I was getting into. But over all they were nice but more clarity should be made that I would have leave my child and that they are able to just "free paint" whatever they wanted to without any instruction.
