We arrived quite late in the afternoon (just after lunchtime), and wanted some cake. A lot of the cakes were sold out already, but we were able to get three of the homemade cherry bake wells (the last three). Very tasty and highly recommend! They do a traditional range of teas, coffees and juices but also sandwiches, cakes and light cooked meals too. The food is all good. The owners are very pleasant and the service is swift and friendly. Prices are as you'd expect and very reasonable given the quality on offer. Beware though that at summer weekends and bank holidays the place gets full very quickly and the limited seating might mean that you're in for a long wait before you can get a place.

It has a truly fantastic view out across the harbour to the salt marshes with vistas of the pinewoods and lifeboat house and the sea beyond. The owners have made the most of this asset by installing a very large window which maximises the effect. It's lovely on a clear day but great in bad weather too as you watch the harbour being lashed by wind and rain as you sip tea and tuck into a bun while seated in the warm. The cafe fare itself is decent no-nonsense stuff, served by friendly staff and it represents good value.

However if you do want to get a scone try to arrive earlier than two o'clock in the afternoon because the locals seem to clear them out of the scones at lunch time. So without scones we each purchased a different cake from the menu. I had a lemon and sultana sponge and was in lemony melting heaven for a good 10 minutes as I tried to prevent myself devouring it in one! All the cakes looked beautiful and everyone really enjoyed them. The service was friendly but the place is tiny and when they're busy you might have to wait for a while to get everything to your table especially if you sit upstairs. I plan to return and book an afternoon tea with them later in the year.

Sure, warm milk and caffeine are nice and comforting, but generally any other place in Cambridge can give you a latte equally good as this. Espresso was rather disappointing. It arrived flat, without crema, resembling a filter coffee more than an espresso. The beans used were good, but the extraction was faulty. The drink lacked depth in flavor and the taste dissipated in a few minutes. Espresso was served without side water. Generally, the food and drink are passable, but not exciting. I don't think I will come back soon.
