Slightly bitter, but filling on a winter's day nonetheless. Bean 2 the Coast however, as the sign says is a coffee house - espresso, mocha, latte, cappuccino to name but a few. Since having children we have been in here a couple of times and received a completely different experience. They appear to completely dislike children, we had to leave our baby's pram outside, even in march when the place was empty, my son picked up the table number and was abruptly told to put it back, we just encountered glares and completely unfriendly attitude. We arrived quite late in the afternoon (just after lunchtime), and wanted some cake. A lot of the cakes were sold out already, but we were able to get three of the homemade cherry bake wells (the last three). Very tasty and highly recommend! They do a traditional range of teas, coffees and juices but also sandwiches, cakes and light cooked meals too. The food is all good. The owners are very pleasant and the service is swift and friendly. Prices are as you'd expect and very reasonable given the quality on offer. Beware though that at summer weekends and bank holidays the place gets full very quickly and the limited seating might mean that you're in for a long wait before you can get a place.

However if you do want to get a scone try to arrive earlier than two o'clock in the afternoon because the locals seem to clear them out of the scones at lunch time. I had a lemon and sultana sponge and was in lemony melting heaven for a good 10 minutes as I tried to prevent myself devouring it in one! All the cakes looked beautiful and everyone really enjoyed them. The service was friendly but the place is tiny and when they're busy you might have to wait for a while to get everything to your table especially if you sit upstairs. I plan to return and book an afternoon tea with them later in the year.
