Wedding Photography at Bear Cave Lake by Ashlee Cole Photography

Fantastic venue with so many great options whether your hosting a small or large event!

Attended a wedding that took place here. Great open facility. Quaint cabin housing. Kid friendly atmosphere. Stocked swimming lake w/ large mouth bass and multiple boats. Reception hall was great. Spacious deck. Owners did a great job keeping the mosquitoes at bay despite the rural environment.

Front entrance to rustic lodging, Bear Cave Lake.

A hidden gem in the southwestern Chicago suburb of Oswego, IL. Rustic decor makes you feel like you "got away". Rental home, wedding reception venue, crafting venue. Great for parties, sleepovers, scrapbooking retreats. So much seating and room to spread out. Nice for adults to relax on one of the decks while kids can have fun and freedom on the premises.

On the other hand, this place is also a little more high end compared to your old fashion bowling/dive bar places. The location was very easy to find. We used Google Navigation and it lead us directly to the place. If you miss the entrance, it might be a little annoying to backtrack but no big issues. Parking was no issues and it is very big compared to the size of the building. We showed up on a busy Wednesday where it is penny pins so you only pay a penny per pin you knock down. Essentially...the worst you are, the cheaper your game will be. Inside the building is very nice and clean. There are two entrances..one is a "restaurant" and the other is the decent sized arcade and bowling. There is a self serving beer tap. And they do serve food. They do a little star less due to the prices of the food as well. It is better than your traditional bar/bowling food but it is a little more expensive. Also, I do enjoy the service of the self serving beer tap. They had a lot of selections of beer, 1-2 seltzers, 1 cider and ~5 wine selection. Also, they do have a "limit" of ~32 oz where the bartender can allow you or less depending on how you act. I do appreciate that so while you can drink feely, no one is getting drunk. I think we were paying ~.60 cents an oz and it does tell you how much your drink will cost as you are pouring. Also, they do have a small water station will is greatly appreciated. The arcade is decently sized. They do have a lot of selections of games but it is not a place where I would go just for the arcade. The size is good for after bowling or while you are waiting for your lane. Overall, I am very impressed with this location. Food, self serving beer tap, and arcades... I am fan of Twisted Pins and I would be back in the future.

They changed names they've got all new lanes, got a pro shop, they got all sorts of crane games and video games etc. I did not bowl, but my kids all bowled with their cousins. What I didn't like, was we got there at 245 and the kids wanted to bowl for an hour, 3 games and there was really nobody on the main lanes except two of the lanes which were already in use and they didn't want to rent lanes to my kids because they said the Plainfield teachers group is coming in. And I'm sure they wouldn't be there till 4 o'clock but this is it like at 2:30 2:45 and so they made my kids rent a lane which cost more dollars an hour and the shoes were more and they had to rent a lane in the VIP section which had colored lights and video on the wall and because they're worried about taking care of this teachers group and school wasn't even close to being over yet but they just wanted to make money on whoever was there. So we got stiffed by having to pay a lot higher prices and I didn't like that. So of course my wife liked the fact that they had a pour your own beer area. With like 20 different beers, some wines, some seltzers etc. etc. And you give them your card upfront they give you a separate card which you wave over the selection that you want , and then it weighs by the ounce how much it pours for you and then charges you a fee. It was in the afternoon and I didn't feel like drinking although the wife drank with my nephew. That was a good thing but I'm really only gonna give them two & 1/2 stars because they were obviously didn't want to rent to us so they gave us the expensive lanes. I just didn't like the service so at our expense they made extra money which was wrong. I personally wouldn't go back.

The couple's wedding we attended had the ceremony outside by the opening to the barn. It was kind of cold so hopefully they have an indoor option if needed. I'm sure they do. Oh barn cats.... there are barn cats which stole the show... for me atleast! The barn was super cute. White and black with rustic chandeliers and lighting. Perfect for the best pics. Now I'm a city girl so I just want to end this with a tip for people like me. Sure the horses are cute and you want to pet them but be careful! The fence had an electrical strap that I had the pleasure of touching! It wasn't that bad but I learned my lesson! I attached the few pics I did take but others here had way better.

We booked the last wedding of their season on November 3rd and as the months started passing I got nervous about the weather. Each time I emailed Pete and Laurie, they would ease my mind. They were extremely responsive via email. We also went back to walk around the grounds with various venders before the wedding and Pete would always come out and make sure any questions were answered. I also rented their daughter Carly's new salon space and she was just as friendly and responsive too. My favorite part about this venue is that it is owned by a family and it really feels like weddings are their passion, not just a business they run. I felt they went above and beyond to make sure my day went smoothly. Peggy, their wedding planner, was also incredible. She met with me numerous times and also was happy to answer any questions along the way. She is a STEAL! Book her if you choose this venue! John, the bartender was also wonderful. I really can't say enough great things about this place!

I enjoyed our wedding at The Farmhouse greatly. There were a lot of wonderful parts about our day,…read morebut there were a few things I would be aware of in advance to anyone considering this venue. Firstly, reading through some of the reviews, I think many guests have bad experiences not because of the venue, but because of the vendors that the couples select. This is one thing about the venue that you should be aware of in advance: they provide you a venue with facilities for the full day including ample getting ready spaces, and full access to the property. You as a coupe hire your vendors separately. The Farmhouse provides you with a preferred vendor list and the platinum package list. We selected their platinum package vendors because 1) I didn't want to vet any vendors and 2) we got a discount with those vendors AND the venue if we did. As far as the vendors are concerned, I will leave more detailed reviews on their own pages, but for the purposes of anyone considering the platinum package at The Farmhouse, I would say it was generally a good experience. Here is a quick breakdown: -Eight Hands Photography - Great vendor with lovely photos. Our head photographer did not seem well prepared and didn't provide us with a huge variety of group photo ideas. You'll want to have ideas in mind otherwise they will go basic. -DJ JPW - fantastic DJ. 100/10. Absolute best wedding DJ I could have hoped for. -Goddess Effect Beauty - I was not pleased with her system of payments nor the clarity of communication. I'm not sure if the communication is purposefully unclear or if she is not a clear person, but she messaged me the morning of the wedding that I owed $1500 when I really owed $500. It made the entire morning incredibly awkward and I cannot say I enjoyed the experience once that happened. -Stems and Petals - Great flowers for very reasonable! Flowers themselves looked a bit damaged (bruised roses), but they truly were a steal compared to other florists! She was also VERY pleasant to work with! Great experience -SIP Bar Service and Prestige Liquor - Excellent, top notch bar tenders. Great service and they packed everything away. Marissa at SIP was fantastic with our planning. For Prestige, check your quote and ensure it's accurate because he did mistakenly add 20 bottles of champagne but Gary fixed that issue quickly and professionally! -Noteable Catering - People loved the food. I thought they were good people to work with and generally okay. Nothing super out of the park. I did hate that we did the buffet stations and guests had to walk through the kitchens. That was weird, but not really their fault. We also knew that going in! The layout and space- This venue was BEAUTIFUL. I was so thrilled with all of the flowers, landscape details, and fire pits. One thing we wanted in a venue was outdoor spaces for people that don't dance. We had board games and cards set outside for our guests to enjoy if they didn't enjoy music and it felt so lovely to give ALL guests a place to enjoy. One thing that was frustrating was that announcements couldn't be heard outside. They need an outdoor PA system so that guests can hear when the late night snack is up! That would be so helpful and make the guest experience better. Finally, I really loved the getting ready spaces. It was so nice to be able to relax with everyone in the spaces. My flower girl needed a nap earlier in the day so having a place where she could go with her parents and relax was instrumental to having her happy and smiling! Day of Coordinator - This was a great decision for us to do, and I'm happy we did it. I will say that Hailey was incredibly helpful and ensured things ran smoothly. Honestly, huge shout out to her for getting us drinks right after the ceremony for us to immediately celebrate! She was kind, thoughtful, and calm! Our stuff was set up beautifully, but I did have to make some adjustments (that's because I'm a perfectionist not because they did anything wrong). I wish that they acted a bit more type A to be honest. You want a person in that position to be an absolute perfectionist: asking clarifying questions during planning meetings, taking ownership, thinking ahead with potential issues. Seemed like they were very passive. Not a bad thing especially when balancing nervous brides, but I would have loved more energy and enthusiasm during planning. It almost seemed like I had to lead the meetings and all the prep. Our stuff was packed up poorly after the wedding: puzzle pieces dumped in a box, broken glass, etc. The owner gave a weird impression to my parents (I never met him) but it seemed that he wasn't a very nice person and was bad mouthing Hailey to my parents. I think that's unprofessional since she did a great job. Overall experience - I would say I absolutely had the best time of my life, but I would recommend doing research before selecting the venue. If you don't want to pick out your vendors, find an all inclusive!
