This time around, the intro class was even more relevant to a new learner/daily conversation and the activities are unique and keep things fun. I learned so much and was so motivated that I decided to move to Q1 this time. This class is great for self-motivated students. The pace is swift but not unmanageable, students should expect to study 2-3 hours on top of the 3-day/week classes in order to complete the homework and self-study. my teacher is supportive and customizes classes based on how students are progressing. 10/10 would recommend!

Before the class, everyone I know told me how Mandarin is SOOoOoOOOoo hard and I TOOOOoooOootally shouldn't bother. Whatever, doodz! I, for one, welcome our new ant overlords. Dina Shen is the instructor and progenitor of Fast Learning Chinese, and I love her like I loved my first grade teacher. She's so smart! And pretty! She's one of those rare teachers who clearly LOVES teaching, and she's incredibly professional. But, as a professional, she makes her class--with her own curriculum and CD--fun, clear, engaging, and (like it says on the box) very very fast. You won't have time to doodle in her class. Not only that, but Dina encourages you to come to the first class before you pay so you can decide for yourself whether or not you think you can learn from her. A month in, and I haven't noticed any dropouts (and my friends told me horror stories about packed college Chinese classes with four lonely students left by the time midterms rolled around). There's no machismo to the course. The vibe is welcoming and inclusive. And if you have trouble and need to repeat the course, her repeat fee is something like half the original cost, which I think shows genuine generosity and dedication. She also holds the same class on different days of the week, so if you have to miss class one week, you can make it up on another day. A huge, huge plus. I leave every class inspired and excited to be learning Chinese, and I'm proud to be learning from such a wonderful teacher. I can already show off to my Chinese clients, and while I know I've got a long way to go, it tells me a lot about Dina's class that after a month they already understand me. That's a big deal with a tonal language! I plan to go on to Level II after this one, which was not in my original plan... It's just that much fun. I cannot recommend Fast Learning Chinese highly enough. Go learn something from Dina.

Deciding to give it another try, I've completed Dina's Level 1 class in June 2013. She's the best Chinese teacher i've ever had compared to other courses. Her program focuses on pronunciation, sentence structure and learning how to build sentences. Her classes are interesting and engaging, with lots of funny stories to help you remember the words & how to write them. She makes it fun to learn the language and listening to her CD helps with practicing my pronunciation. Unlike traditional Chinese classes, which rely heavily on memorization, her program is unique and definitely worth taking. I'm currently in her Level 3 class and am able to write letters or notes to my Chinese friends. You do have to work at it but if you make the effort, it's very rewarding to be able to understand and speak basic Chinese. I highly recommend her program.

I did a free trial lesson first, then paid for a single lesson before deciding if I wanted to commit to a 6-class package. The lack of pressure to commit right away was very nice, and the classes were more affordable than others I was looking at. Most importantly, I learned so much already in only a few classes! My friends, coworkers, and my boyfriend's family who speak Mandarin are all very impressed with my pronunciation and vocabulary. Yutong takes time to lock in the foundations and teaches with an immersive, multi-modal approach that I really like. Learning how and why a sentence is structured a certain way or how a character is formed helps me generalize the knowledge for a variety of scenarios vs rote memorization. As a heritage speaker with an…read moreintermediate-advanced level studying traditional characters, I was initially unsure if I would be able to find the right fit, given that most language classes are geared toward absolute beginners with no Chinese background studying simplified characters. However, Yutong Chen, the owner of Unlock Chinese, as well as my instructor Jing Zhao, proactively worked with me to tailor the lessons to my needs. I came in with a textbook that I wanted to study, and even though it was new to both and had traditional characters, they were willing to go with the flow and teach it to me! I enjoyed my lessons with Jing Zhao, and we had a lot of interesting discussions about culture and society - I got to use new grammar and vocabulary in context, which helped me internalize new concepts. As a working professional, I thought it would be challenging to keep up Chinese while working a full-time job. Thanks to Unlock Chinese, I've not only maintained my Chinese but also advanced further in a low-pressure environment!

Her attention to the children, along with the extra care she has shown my child, really made us feel how much she genuinely cares. She goes above and beyond in small but meaningful ways, and it's clear she treats children with genuine warmth and attention. As a parent, it's incredibly comforting to know your child is in such capable and caring hands. We've seen real growth, not only academically, but socially and emotionally too. The teachers are all good - all native speakers from what I can tell, and the classes are always fun. Because the classes are usually small, you get to practice speaking a lot (yes it can be challenging, but this is how you learn :)). And they also teach you how to read and write Chinese (to me that's the hardest part). Package prices are not bad at all IMO. The BM e-book is great for reviewing class material and practicing new words/grammar. The school also has regular events where you can meet other students, practice your Chinese and learn about Chinese culture, holidays, food etc. If you have questions, Sissi (the owner of BM) always replies to emails or text messages very quickly.
