Seeing the same level of dental care that my son received, business hours, closer commute via home, and work prompted an urgency to switch dentist. My only regret was not switching earlier. One of my friends also switched dental care to this office after reading the first review regarding my son's visits. I didn't find out till my dentist informed me and thanked me for the referral. I went for my first consultation today and let me tell you, they use a lot of newer high tech technology, they are extremely thorough with checking each tooth and explaining what's going on, they not only share with people verbally but also show you what they're looking at on the tv screen as well. The hygienist, Janet, was so so nice and gentle - I really loved getting to know her better. And Dr. Koga was so personable, knowledgeable, and made me feel heard which is super important to me. Because they are so thorough you do need to come in quite a few times but I will say that they'll help create a customized plan for you on how to best take care of your teeth and the maintenance that comes with it. Dr. Julia is the best she's so sweet and efficient. She's not the type to recommend fillings if it isn't necessary. My previous dental office always wanted something at each visit. I even did a cap there then a few months later it came off. That's the reason I went looking for another office since I didn't want to keep paying such a high bill for unnecessary and half a** work. She takes the time to explain things if I have questions. I even had a dental emergency while on a trip to Las Vegas and Dr. Julia called me back within minutes even though it was late in Hawaii and the office wasn't even open. In addition the dental hygienist Lauren is always so nice and actually remembers things about me like my kids. Same for me I love that they share little things about themselves. It takes away any anxiety like some people just work on your teeth and it's dead quit and silent like at least she strikes a conversation and it doesn't seem transactional but genuine. Also the front desk representative Candy she's so nice and helpful when I have insurance or billing questions. Plus she knows the days I prefer and always try's to accommodate me. This review is strictly base on my office experience, or lack thereof, on my last visit. Let me…read morestart by saying I've been seeing Dr. Okihiro for almost 20 years, that should give you an idea about how I feel about his level of service and expertise as a dentist. That being said I would hate to have to find another dentist because the office fails to communicate proactively and productively. Prior to my last visit I was given a quote for a crown, which would have been a two part visit, one visit to prep, the next visit to solidify the crown. Upon the completion of my first visit I made a payment which was higher than I expected it to be. Curious, I asked what would my final payment be after my second visit and I was told an amount which was about 4 times more than what I was expecting. It was explained to me that my insurance wouldn't be covering the service so I would be responsible for the full amount. To say I was shocked was an understatement, I wanted to cancel my next appointment. The office admin encouraged me to keep the next appointment and maybe work out a payment plan with the office manager. I waited for a call from the office manager that never came, instead a received a text message that reads as follows: "Hi XXX, due to circumstances, we are unable to keep your appointment on (insert date here), if you were planning on going through with the crown. We will be cancelling that appointment until you are ready to reschedule it or if you ever want to reschedule it. Thank you and have a great day!" I called the office twice and received their voicemail. I did not leave a message. I replied to the text asking to have their office manager call me. I have not received a call back. A simple phone call to let me know the price had changed, when they found out my insurance wouldn't cover the appointment, would have been extremely helpful. Instead they wait until my first appointment was completed to tell me the price had changed and they didn't volunteer the information, I had to ask. Very poor communication on their part and no accountability. I'm very disappointed.
