Well, where do I start? Partner wanted to start getting his back waxed professionally after I did it once for him at home during lockdown (but it took me far too long and was rather messy). On 25th March, I made a booking via their website for 8th May at 11am. On 7th May Danielle messaged my partner and asked if he could come in later for his appt at 2.15pm as she would be on her own during the morning. No problems we thought and accepted the change of time. 8th May, partner went for his back wax, all went ok. He was also booked in for a chest wax straight after, if the hair was long enough. Danielle did a test area but told him it was still too short and arranged for him to come back the following Sat 15th May at 11am. The morning of the 15th May, Danielle sends a text saying she was cancelling his appt as she wasnt feeling well and needed to go for a Covid test. Although an inconvenience, we accepted things like this happen and agreed to rebook. Danielle telephoned later that day and a 2nd booking was made for Sat 22nd May at 10.30am. The day before, I receive a call from Danielle saying they wouldn't be opening the salon now on 22nd because her colleague Rebecca had had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago and still wasnt well enough to return to work and it was her that my partner had been booked in with. I asked why Danielle had called me and not my partner directly and she said she'd "tried calling but couldn't get through". I explained partner was working and most probably driving, however when I asked him about it all later that evening he'd had NO missed calls from her or anyone at the salon and no texts. So this was a lie. I begrudgingly agreed to move his appt yet again to today, 27th May at 10am. She stated Rebecca would be doing it and "put it all in the diary" during our phone call that evening (which I have a recording of on my phone of Danielle saying this!!). This was now the 3rd date we had booked with Beauty Basics. I thought it was odd that someone who has just had major abdominal surgery would be returning to work so soon but gave her the benefit of the doubt, despite knowing that the general rule of thumb with such surgery is that you are generally out of action unable to work/lift anything/ drive for 6+ weeks while the body heals. So...today arrives. Partner goes down for 10am and was told "the booking wasnt in the diary". Hmm, this is strange as I'm certain Danielle wrote it in the diary during our call on 21st May . Partner is apologised to for god knows the umpteenth time and asked to come back in an hour... strange that, as we were told Rebecca was booked in to do the treatment. By this point he *politely* told them he'd specifically taken the rest of the day off work to come in and have his appointment and to just forget it. With that he turned round and walked out...still fuzzy and no closer to getting his chest done. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL, LIE ABOUT TRYING TO CALL YOU, CHANGE PEOPLES APPOINTMENTS WITH NO CARE IN THE WORLD. Partner thinks that they just couldn't be bothered to do it. Have now made a new appt with a different company who sound a lot more professional in their approach to their clients than Beauty Basics does. And judging by the other number of 1* reviews on here I can see why clients have taken their business elsewhere. I would never have booked my partner in here knowing the owner Rebecca doesnt have any public liability insurance which another misfortunate client sadly discovered & made clear in her also, 1* review. Very unprofessional, on one occasion I had hair extension maintenance and it took them four hours. I then went on to purchase more extensions which I was told would be Russian hair, since I have spoken to another person who knows extensions who has told me they are not. I spent £300 on new hair 2 months ago and it is now ruined. I look after my extensions very well so it is the quality of them. Very disappointed and will never go there again. Unprofessional, rude & lacking in customer care. Thought I'd try this place as it had been advertised on groupon, & it's quite close to where I work...it really isn't worth a single penny. The staff are so disorganised. The lady was on the phone to customers & also family whilst doing the lady's nails next to me. She was trying to find a babysitter for her child (her husband had recently strolled in with the 3 kids, & had left 1 of them with one of the girls that worked there.) Not an ounce of effort was made to make conversation with me, neither was the beautician interested when I attempted to make conversation. The salon was unkept, cold, & the opposite to relaxing. Friends wandered in & out starting conversations with the staff. The staff also discussed their family life & problems with another during the treatment. As for my nails...my sister could have done a better job..in fact my car could have. The attempt of 'bows' on my nails look like someone has thrown up on them. Disgusted that the price of the nails had also changed without them informing me. It in fat had doubled in price. Don't go to Beauty Basics. Not any part of it is worth it. Stay well away. read more

Now based in Broad Street Barry. Unprofessional, not worth the money, self centred staff and far from a relaxing and enjoyable experience. This is a salon but you'd be disappointed if you wanted to relax in a soothing warm atmosphere. Indian head massage was done in the front of the shop whilst the salon owners mates came in for a (loud) chat and MTV was blaring. The prodding from the 'masseuse' was annoying and i felt exposed and on show while not being relaxed in the slightest. The pedicure consisted of her putting on nail polish. My 6 year old neice has done a better job! The swedish massage did nothing for me and was uncomfortable if anything. I wonder about the 'qualifications' of those giving treatments because this did not feel like the person had any training or experience in the art of massage. I had some threading done on a previous occasion and a chunk of skin on my brow was taken out! I should never have gone back but i was tempted by the groupon deal!! Never again!! read more

Me and my friend booked to have a manicure and pedicure as part of a groupon deal. When we booked we were told there would be 2 people available to do our treatments together. Not the case! One girl turned up over 20 minutes late and rather than get started, she sat at the counter with her head in her hands looking miserable. The atmosphere between the 2 girls was horrendous and they obviously didn't like each other. The pedicure was just having nail polish applied, which I could have done better myself. The worst salon experience I have ever had! On Friday two weeks ago I paid £140 to have micro bead extensions. By the next day they were coming out, they were a completely different colour to my hair and were cut completely uneven! I was told if they were cut straight it would be obvious they were extensions.. it forces me to raise a question of these people's qualifications. Need I mention this was done by the manager! I was told I would not be given a refund. Absolutely disgusting service! The staff were rude and very unprofessional! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! read more

I bought a groupon deal for eyelash extensions (they actually were lvl lashes) and an eyebrow wax at the end of last year. I have two children under 3 years old, so it is a rare treat for me to have some time to be pampered, but I was left disappointed and disgusted by my experience at Beauty Basics. The staff were cold and unfriendly, and refused to make any conversation despite my efforts. I was never told what they were doing at any stage, and was left a few times for very long periods of time while the member of staff wondered off to chat loudly with the receptionist or someone out the back. I was told that an eyelash tint was part of the LVL process, but this was never applied. The eyebrow wax took about 10 seconds and was done without any real discussion as to what I wanted. I felt like I was intruding, or an inconvenience, and was made to feel very uncomfortable by staff talking about me as I left the salon. I was disappointed with the results and so was reluctant to try LVL lashes again, however my mum recently booked me in to the Celtic Manor for my birthday, and oh my goodness what a difference. The staff could not have been lovelier or more attentive and they clearly took a great deal of pride in their work. The lady who did the lvl lashes was fabulous and the end result is vastly different, and so much better. I thought the purpose of groupon vouchers was to encourage customers to return but pay full price for services, but Beauty Basics just seemed annoyed I'd bought one. I had a horrendous experience with my eyelash extensions. I had them taken out at a professional salon in Cardiff, the woman and the entire salon were so shocked at how badly beautybasics had done them. I have lost almost all of my natural eyelashes. The glue is stronger than super glue I was in tears having my eyelashes off and it took two professionals 40 mins. The manager didn't explain the treatment properly and I ended up with glue on my bottom lashes which made my eyes so sore. The lashes that she used were too large which means that the natural lashes get BENT SNAPPED and FALL OUT. The manger who put them on took less than 20 mins... the estimate time for PROFESSIONALY applied eyelash extensions taken 2 hours at least !! She rushed the job used CHEAP glue and didn't explain the importance of Aftercare, luckily enough I already knew but what a shocking experience! The entire Cardiff Salon I went to couldn't believe it and the ladies who took my eyelash extensions off advised me to sue. I realise I am not the only one who has a problem with Beauty Basics, just look on YELP. The Manager deletes any negative comments on her Facebook. I was very disappointed in the beauty treatment I had there. I was booked in for 10.30 am and even though I had previously spoken to the woman the day before she was late showing up. I learnt that she had gone to have braces fitted instead. I was not impressed by the cleanliness of the salon. I had an eyebrow wax and still had to go home and pluck them. For my other waxing there was no couch roll used on the bed which was an issue for me. wax was used and then she realised there was no wax strips and had to go down stairs shouting to other members of staff. I asked her to stop before she was done as i was so uncomfortable. The products used were cheap and the after wax oil was just cheap oil bought in a shop. I also asked for gel manicure which was awful it lifted more or less straight away. I come from a hair and beauty background and this was truly one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The only bonus was she only charged me £20 quid as I think she could see how annoyed I was. I still would say that was over priced for what I recieved. read more
