Clearly a request to be granted, but fraught with a lot of doubts about how we would show up in photos at this stage of our lives! We researched several photographers and chose Denyce and Something Blue Photography from reviews. We went in for an initial conversation and thus began an incredibly fun, impressive, and thoroughly satisfying experience. My husband had two B&W family photos from the 60's that he treasured and asked Denyce about our creating something that mirrored them. We also wanted color photos for us and our family. Denyce - who very clearly has perfected her art to a high degree and has a trove of knowledge to draw from - was intrigued by the B&W project and was excited about doing it. For the color photos, she asked good questions about what we wanted to convey, where we would use them, and took the time to get to know us. My husband - who was less excited about this project - got completely engaged with it! We quickly decided that we wanted to work with Denyce. The day of the photo session, she had a wonderful person - Korina - come in to do my makeup. I could have done it myself but preferred having someone do it right for the photos. We brought in many possible outfits that Denyce helped us choose from. We laughed a lot as Denyce used different backgrounds in the studio, had us sitting, standing, hugging and many other playful things that relaxed us and brought out our comfort with each other. For the B&W photos, the poses were more serious, and she adapted to lighting - all to mimic the old photos. When we came in to review the photos, we were nervous. What if we didn't like how we looked?? Well, no worry. She had made us look terrific!! She had a good process of helping us cull down all the options and we came down to 5. We ordered prints and she has a mobile app where we could share all 5 with friends and family ("look kids, we actually look pretty darn good!") Cost: Denyce had outlined this to us at the beginning. There is a sitting fee and then the total cost depends on what you order. With the sitting fee you get a credit towards your prints. It was an investment and we found it reasonable and well (!) worth it. We were thrilled. We highly recommend Denyce and Something Blue Photography.

What caught my eye when I first researched photographers were all the quirky dogs that appeared in so many photos. Our pup was our first "child" and we loved the idea of having her included in our family pictures. What kept us coming back to Aubrie was her easy style and most importantly, her amazing pictures that capture a moment in our lives. I was sold on the extra photographer because their explanation was one would be aimed at us, and one at guests for the same events (to get a fuller picture). Nope, many of our shots were two photographers from different angles. We did their online form and hired them just a few months before our wedding. Somehow they told us the two we selected as our top photographers were available. I kinda feel like it was not true and just propaganda. I just wanted a few photos that I can print and show around my home. I spent $500 after the wedding to take more photos. Also, part of my anger is that my family is latino, and dark skinned. Nearly all of the photos did not include my family. I gave them a list of 4-5 people that were important to us and to get photos (my dad, my aunt). I have one photo of my aunt where she's the focus (she was my mother figure growing up) and she's looking from the side, and I have I believe 3 of my dad. I'm not sure how this happened, but I do have one of my dad that I just love. I asked for about two dozen to get edited one way or another and they tried to charge me just to do that thing you see online where only one color is highlighted in a photo and the rest is greyscale. I couldn't believe the audacity that to do that to just two photos they would charge me. There's free online software, but when you spend around $1k for photographers, you'd think they could spend a short amount of time. Pros: quick turnaround on engagement photos, good engagement photos, friendly Cons: treated me like they were doing me a favor, second photographer was not noticeably adding a benefit, poor photo quality (I'll attach some of the ones they sent me), did not take photos of two of the people I asked to be highlighted, didn't take many photos of the dark skinned people at my wedding. This is one of the most expensive photographers we sought a quote from, so I expected better. In response to my post, Seppi wishes I had reached out to him sooner. I emailed him multiple times regarding not the quality and costs. No offer for reshoot, refund were offered. His response is dose genius. After posting this a coworker told me her friends had the same experience of disappointment with this studio.

There are certainly a dime a dozen photographers who specialize in all sorts of special events, but many of them aren't in the same league as these pros. Capturing the moment is a skill best practiced by the photographers of PPS. Like many before me, I took part in a series of wedding shots (as one of many groomsman) during the summer time and the results that came of it were simply spectacular. Initially I didn't think much of the photographers as they didn't seem to be extremely demanding for our poses, have a vocal sense of direction, and they weren't lugging around much equipment. But after seeing the photos they took post processing, it really is about the person behind the lens, as opposed to the lens itself. They were organized, flexible with large groups of folks, great at composition, and even had a plan for an itinerary of photo taking throughout the day. Not all of us were made to be models, but they did a stellar job of showcasing everyone's best sides. If it were simply about the portfolio, they'd get the job any day. But what made the experience complete, was the fun loving, professional attitude that they managed to incorporate throughout the entire process. Bravo Powers!
