On the farm's website, I also read that throughout the year, Shenot Farm offers events such as hayrides; pick-your-own flowers, apples, and pumpkins; and pumpkin-smashes. In the autumn they sell flowers, pumpkins, cornstalks, Thanksgiving turkeys, and fruit baskets, and in the winter they sell Christmas trees and wreaths. On a Saturday, my husband and I visited this farm's market to browse their foods. We parked our vehicle in their free parking lot. Inside the market, we saw foods such as lettuce, cabbage, green beans, brussels sprouts, beets, plums, sausages, chicken meats, eggs, milk, cheeses, apple ciders, cookies, pies, fudges, popcorns, jams, bread loaves, bagels, seasonings, sauces and dressings, salsas, applesauces, syrups, dessert mixes, granolas, teas, honeys, ice creams, etcetera! We also saw some non-food items such as candles and t-shirts. I selected an orange-colored "cheddar" cauliflower head, apple crisp mix, caramel-apple-pie fudge, and jars of banana butter, strawberry jelly, and apple butter. My husband and I had not previously eaten a few of the unique products, so we felt excited to try them. At the checkout counter, an employee promptly greeted us, accurately rang up our purchase, carefully bagged our foods, and thanked us. Each food cost roughly several dollars.

Will be looking up some of the brands to see if they do online ordering and shipping. Due to our travel limitations, our actual purchases were scant - but their blueberries were fresh and a good size for the $5 price, my daughter devoured them for the rest of the weekend. Local jerky was a protein packed snack option for the adults. Also snagged some cookies for dessert that really hit the spot. If your schedule allows, check out the restaurant next door - it's their affiliated "farm to fork" concept. Also note the grassy play area and swings if you have a toddler with excess energy to burn off.

Boy will you be wrong- the place extends well out into the back! We didn't go into the nursery area but the plants were gorgeous. Go into the market store area- it is huge! There's a bakery, a deli, a little lunch spot, groceries, candies, home goods etc. I want to highlight the little wine section with the kindest lady working there. She gave us a tour of the entire place - that's how we found out the place was much more than meets the eye! We sampled several different wines, and purchased several! One of the wines sold there supports a rescue group with every sale. We bought some jams (birthday gifts), honey and hot sauces from the store. Traverse out back, there's the original barn that is a gift shop (3 stories), lots of unique items, a farm petting barn of animals rescued from slaughterhouses, a separate store for those with allergies that they can shop specific allergen friendly food. An ice cream stand, a hard cider ale house and some play areas for the children. We stopped in the arsenal ale house to have a drink and that was delicious too! We were hungry after and were looking for place to eat then we remembered there was a little lunch spot in the store so back in we went! Perfect tied over lunch, great sandwiches, pickles have got to be homemade. Drinks from cooler- super refreshing. Definitely will be back.

We arrived and found ample parking and went inside. There is so much inside: you can find donuts from Orum's on Saturday (we bought 6) and there is fresh bread, dinner rolls, jams, and other pastries available. Toward the back are farm fresh vegetables, milk, etc. They have an ice cream counter and things like honey, etc. nearby. We, also, stopped by Arrowhead winery inside to sample their wines: the lady behind the counter was super helpful and knowledgeable about their wines and the wine-making process. Overall, you will find yourself spending more time and money than you expected but you will, also, be planning your next visit. There is a lot to see outside and we did not get a chance to really investigate the outside as there was so much inside. We will be back: bringing a cooler next time to buy some wine so we can keep it fresh if it happens to be a warm day.

(Michelle is a sweetheart) Their latest evolution has been to offer a pretty extensive sandwich menu and to collaborate with Pappy's BBQ. And I'll share more about that later. I was frequenting this place (weekly) to buy lunch meat and other breakfast/dinner meats (bacon, chicken, burgers, steaks, etc). But their hours have changed yet again (used to be open at 9am, then that changed to 10am, then that recently changed to 11am) so it's harder for me to go there when they're open. They do sell quality meats and various other groceries like veggies, milk, and bread. I had tried their food when they first started offering burgers and a few other sandwiches and pizza. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed by anything I tried and so I just stuck to buying groceries from them. Then came their collaboration with Pappy's BBQ, which introduced a more robust sandwich menu along with a BBQ menu. Well, one day I was getting lunch meat and heard about a half dozen people ordering various chicken sandwiches. My interest was piqued. A day or so later I had a chicken parm hoagie to-go and wow. It was huge and packed with flavor. I recently ordered another one and I'm here to say, its awesomeness was not a fluke. $15 for a footlong chicken parm sandwich that has plenty of wonderfully seasoned/prepared chicken, a tasty sauce, and sufficient cheese (you can never have enough provolone/mozzarella) - all packed in a tasty mancini's hoagie bun. It's worth every dollar. Chicken parm is my favorite type of sandwich and Elluingers chicken parm hoagie, in my opinion, is waaay better than Goodfellos, and decidedly better than Aviva Brick Oven. That is no small feat in my book. Aviva has been the standard for all things Italian in our house. And while they still own the throne for pizza, they've been dethroned for chicken parm sandwiches. So in conclusion, it might have taken a while, in my opinion, for Elluingers to find their sweet spot in terms of serving hot foods, but I think they may have found it! Stop in, and give them a try! If nothing else, get some quality groceries from a friendly family-owned/run business.

This weekend went in for their Brisket sandwich; a low-quality sandwich regardless of the price. It was served on bread with same texture as Town Talk bread, one side was toasted the other was mush. There was barely any brisket on it. The coleslaw was the size of a condiment to-go container; think of filling a container of ketchup from other restaurants. For your knowledge, there are several other options right on Main Street to try. I would be more than willing to pay more for better quality.

The onions, cucumbers, potatoes, beets, corn, cabbages, zucchinis, blueberries, raspberries, plums, dill, peppers, etcetera looked so fresh! My husband commented that the prices were lower than what many grocery stores charge for lower-quality produce. I bought one Jumbo Zucchini and two ears of corn. When I got home, I measured the zucchini, and it was about 15 inches long and had a circumference of 10.5 inches! I cooked one-third of the zucchini as a side for dinner for two people, and I liked that the zucchini had no blemishes and tasted so good. For the next meal, I cooked the corn. The corn was small to medium in size, but it was juicy and flavorful. I decided to search for this farm online to learn more about it. According to the farm's website, it is a small, family-operated farm that is not USDA-certified organic, but it grows only non-GMO produce, and it uses organic farming practices. Organic--yay! :) This farm's website said that customers may purchase the produce not only through the Oakmont Farmers Market but also through the Bellevue Farmers Market and the Cranberry Township Farmers Market. Furthermore, this farm offers a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. The CSA prices vary based on the size of your family (e.g., individual/couple, small, or large) and if you sign up for a half season (8 weeks biweekly) or full season (16 weeks). Several pickup locations are available throughout the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.
