The American Tobacco Campus was established in 1890 as an industrial center. When the tobacco…read moreindustry left, the campus had to change. The Durham Bulls Athletic Park and the Durham Center for Performing Arts brought new life to the campus. The Old Bull Building is where Lucky Strike was made. Tobacco was a large employer in Durham so when it shut down in 1987 the property started to fall apart and people moved away. Capitol Broadcasting decided in 2004 to purchase the campus and turn these historic buildings into something unique and special. The ATC has offices, apartments, shops and restaurants. There is a courtyard, water features, outside seating and even a train car. It is an easy place to visit with three parking garages nearby and street parking. Then it is fun to walk around and see the remnants of what used to be there.

If I lived closer, I might consider a membership to save costs, but I live too far currently to justify that. The cafe food was mid, and again too expensive. The pricing for me knocks a star off, but if you've never been and are prepared to spend a couple hundred bucks for the day on a family of 4, you'll probably enjoy!

Duke Gardens is definitely one of the most beautiful gardens in Durham, if not the Triangle. Open…read morefrom dawn to dusk, it's welcoming to all. The best time of year to go in my opinion is during the Spring and especially during the Cherry Blossom season, which only lasts less than a week if not that. During that time, it can be super duper crowded, with people everywhere trying to get the perfect profile pic and/or selfie in. Weddings are held here and they have a beautiful area for it, along with a pond with lily pads. I have friends who have gotten engaged here, although if you're a professional photographer, you need to have permission. During the summer, they have a summer concert series on the lawn and it's so much fun. My friends I would bring snacks, wine, coolers and picnic blankets. Partaking in those concerts was one of the most fun parts of my summers, so nostalgic. Parking is a bit much (as it's sometimes hard to snag) but there are a few overflow lots to accommodate. One of my favorite parts of Duke Gardens it that you can also access Duke Campus across the road, and see the lovely Duke Chapel, and its beautiful cathedral. Once done, you can re-enter the Gardens and continue your trail. Such a lovely stroll. Once you cross the red bridge, you can also find your way to the farm, where there are animals, vegetation and lots of vegetables and herbs in a sweet garden. You can't really get too lost at Duke Gardens which I appreciate. Just keep going and eventually you will find your way back to the main fountain. Enjoy!

It's a blend of Art Deco and Pop Art inspired by Rice Krispies! Parking was a major challenge to take pictures at each location but we didn't get any tickets! Just be bold and be safe! The locations are at the corner of Blackwell and Vivian, near the Marriott City Center and The Bull Statue, and at the Durham Central Park on Foster Street. Life is good with unique local art!

The trails within the park were closed (not sure why), so we went running around the park. It's especially hilly in this area and connects to the greenway. It's great for endurance training. The park offers various objects d'art set against a woodland plain, and it links in with other trails as is common in North Carolina. There are a lot of greenways. There is ample free parking and it is close to a lot of other things but quiet and secluded. And if it is a day when the museum is open, you can get a good mix of indoor and outdoor experiences for free.

Upon entry I noticed a manned coffee station, and hadn't seen this previously. You will still need to check in with the front desk for a parking pass to place in your car.
