Issues I've had with BECU over the years: despite paying all my BECU mortgages on time, finding out they WEREN'T PAYING MY HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE FOR YEARS and we only found out when we were trying to sell our home. While going through a divorce, I took my ex's name off all my accounts... but, the manager failed to follow through, so my ex was able to steal $10k from an account he'd been left able to access, despite being assured this wasn't possible. Consistently being locked out of my own accounts during large remodels (where paying the contractors and vendors was imperative) or WHILE OUT OF THE COUNTRY, leaving me without any money over weekends, even though I'd put travel alerts on the accounts. Being treated so disrespectfully while doing simple transaction, at the University Place location, other customers complained on my behalf. Multiple other issues. read more

I went to the BECU in University Place twice this week. Taytum Pesek helped me on my first visit. And Heather Broussard helped me on my 2nd visit. I needed my previous credit card history printed out because you can't do that on your phone. I didn't even have to wait to be seen. They took me right to their desk. Then they printed my account. Taytum and I went over questions that I had. Heather and I did not need to go over what she had printed. Then I wanted to talk to their manager to let her know how wonderful Taytum and Heather are. I then met Dixie Singleton. She is as professional as the other two ladies are. I am 72 years old and have always had jobs in customer service. I will say, that having been a BECU customer for nearly a decade (as well as having many business accounts with them), they have taken a turn that is not enjoyable as a customer. While they strive to be the local credit union, they have turned into the Bank of America of credit unions. As an example, here is my most recent situation. I got an email in the middle of the night to their updated Terms and Conditions, stating that arbitration is the new way forward for customers with financial disputes with the organization. I called BECU customer service to see how this would affect my business. The person on the phone said "I am not sure what you are speaking about, let me speak with my manager". I waited on hold and was told they don't have answers, but that I could schedule an appointment at the bank. I asked them if there is someone in corporate that I could speak with. The individual on the phone said there is no phone number for corporate (odd when organizations won't let you contact them). So, I scheduled an appointment with the notes, and had to wait a week to be seen. I showed up, waited 45 minutes and the branch manager stated that he didn't know how to help but would have someone reach out to me. I sent an email stating that I had never heard back. No response. I sent another email this morning (after another week of waiting) and finally got a call back from another staff member. I asked if the legal team would speak with my lawyer for clarity, and he said no. He stated that the updated terms mean that all forward disputes would go through a mediator, not the courts. I asked who chooses the mediator and he said "BECU". When I asked him if that felt like a conflict of interest, he asked if there was anything else he could do for me before he hung up. So unprofessional after waiting 2 weeks. Sad, but after seeing so many poor reviews, I guess I can feel comfort that I am not alone in my experience. read more

BECU seemed like a great step away from the big box banks and initially they were. Fast forward through my experience with them after 5 years: Missed communication during the Snowmageddon of Spring 2019 had them closing my credit account when I didn't respond immediately to what was a missed payment. Yes, my bad. BUT, No formal notice of the account closure??? In fact, after I pay the account off, I try to make a purchase that's declined and the chatbot agent tells me, welp, because I didn't immediately respond to them, they were forced to close the account. OK. I have to go through hell and high water to get them to raise my daily ATM withdrawal limit AND spending limit. Why do I have to justify spending my own damn money???? Just now their website kicked me with technical issues; the app can't connect to my other accounts (like it does on the website) and the chatbot...mmmm During a 2020 car buying experience, sure, great to get pre-approved online but their rates??? Within a year, I refinanced with OBEE for nearly half the rate - from 6.75% to 3.75% AND OBEE offered to review my entire credit history and provided numerous credit and banking service upgrades to my financial portfolio, completely outdoing BECU. BECU didn't even bother to check in and be competitive. When my stepson totalled the car he bought and I co-signed, the insurance payout had ALL of our names on it, mine, his and his dad's. BECU wouldn't cash the check, wouldn't allow a triple-endorsement (in person with all of our enhanced ID's) to deposit the check into the loan account directly (to pay off the damn car loan), so the three of us have to open ANOTHER checking account with all of our names on it to deposit the check - which was my idea, btw because BECU staff had none other than go to Tukwila. Then we must then wait a week for the funds to clear, before we can pay off the loan and close it out. BECU was not interested in obtaining a payoff total that would hold for longer than 3 business days, so the loan could continue to cost us interest. We were told that if we didn't like it, we could drive to Tukwila and hope for the best. Speaking of which, BECU has only one cash branch in their system - Tukwila. One must make an appointment for nearly all customer service requests - and if you make an appointment online (which you should if you bank here), you can't check in early, even with your confirmation AND if you check in as a guest, your appointment is cancelled. Only about two of their agents are even remotely friendly; ask too many questions about their services and the manager will come out and tell you to go to Tukwila. My most recent experiences - closing a money market account (online over their chatbot) vs closing a $1K line of credit (which is going to require that I come in person with three family members to sign a form...). I've never had to file any form to close any revolving credit accounts with any financial institution before - which the representative tells me is now mandatory due to the FREEDOM act - an act that passed in what, 2013-2014? I was pleased with BECU service when I moved my accounts there some 5 years ago, but service seems to have declined dramatically, to my dismay. Reps were never particularly friendly or customer-oriented, in-person or by phone, but it seems that since COVID19 hit, basic services plummeted. I can no longer get phone service, as the recording says volume is so high with a half hour wait, call back later. You can't even wait that 1/2 hour, the phone just hangs up on you. The chat system hasn't worked for me either. No one came online to help me! When I couldn't reorder checks online, I had to go into the business site where, after a long wait, the rep kept saying I should have been able to order them online, so I knew it wasn't my fault that I couldn't. Now, I can't even log into my app because my password didn't work so many times and there is no phone service to help me fix it. All this is disappointing, indeed. read more

I remember when this spot was just a parking lot. Now that businesses have come together to be here, it makes this area that much better. We were having a problem at a shared bank and decided to go to the horse's mouth to get answers. These folks were patient and I respect an "I don't know" so they can find someone else who can look at the situation. Our questions were answered and a solution to our problem was found. Idk if we were to ever bank here as we are only here for loan payments but things like this where the customer is treated with respect and patience is highly considered for future references. BECU is not my regular bank which is good as I'd never choose them. But I have been managing my parents finances for a number of years so I've had to deal with BECU. Now it's just my Mom and this "bank" couldn't be more ignorant in their actions. They tell me one thing and do another -- or don't do anything at all. When we had to change over accounts, due to my fathers death, I was told the BECU mortgage and other loans that were connected to the previous accounts would switch over and there would be no issue. WRONG. What a mess. Took several months to straighten things out. And there are still a few things left that BECU is supposed to do, per the paperwork I have, and they are weeks behind on those tasks. Terrible place. Stick to the mattresses and cash. BECU is not concerned with people first like their tagline, they took my money. I am having difficult financial times, and disabled, and unable to work. I have an overdue credit card with them. I had money taken from my checking account to pay for this credit card - this was unauthorized by me. They explained their policy to do this. I explained my situation and requested an exception be made given my disability and financial distress, this was some of my last savings money - and they refused to offer a better solution. They claim to put people first, and they are basically throwing me out on the street by taking some of my last savings money to get by. As an American, I am ashamed to write this review. read more

Love the Boeing Credit Union. I have been a member for over 30 years. They have a grown act in that time. Great customer service. Plenty of cash machines all around. Best of all they have an awesome app that I can deposit checks right from my phone:) Also, you can use any Co-op cash machines for no fee. read more

Hours and hours have been spent talking to BECU about NSF fees, They apparently hold things and arrange them at the end of the day to take the highest amounts first to create as many NSF fees as possible. I have had many reversed. But they treat me like a bad or stupid person and even sent a letter saying they may cut off my "courtesy payments". Big for profit banks should do this but if WE OWN IT, treat us better. Cut the fees to a buck or two. Forgive us if we cover it in a day. Do not be so greedy. Do not say it is a disincentive, like punishing me will teach this 71 year old how to manage my money. I would like BECU to be a leader in this and do the right thing. read more

I am a former US Bank member and after years of being terrorized by them, I finally hopped ship! Both my husband and I just cant believe it took us so long. If you knew how easy banking could be, you would all be with BECU! Everything is seamless, and costumer service is above and beyond. We've been with BECU for more than 8 years. In that time we've never been able to resolve three lingering problems: 1) Every other week BECU declines the charge from our delivery grocery order from our local grocery store, even though there's plenty of funds to cover the charge. When it happens, I call, they apologize, fix it for that day and offer no explanation. It's never been resolved and no-one seems to care. 2) We frequently run into daily transaction limits, so in effect I have to beg BECU's permission to spend my own money. These limits are arbitrary and can't be raised without getting a lecture about how they're doing you a favor, what a huge risk it is, etc. Yesterday it happened again when I was at Home Depot. BECU stranded me in the check out line AGAIN with no way to pay. Today they refused again to up our daily transaction limit. 3) No weekend customer service. BECU works 1/2 a day on Saturday and are completely closed on Sunday. So, if either of the above situations happens on a Sunday you're out of luck. We're done, time for a new bank. read more

I used to be the biggest BECU fan but their lack of tellers is super frustrating at this point. Small transactions that should take five minutes end up taking an hour waiting in line. Why they have 5 to 7 people are none are tellers is beyond me. Disappointed in their service, especially from a LONG TIME customer. Would not credit an NSF fee when I clearly made a deposit to cover the check by the end of the day and also had a balance in my linked savings account to cover it. I was told they do not pend all credits and debits to process by the end of the day, as they would at larger banks. Closing my checking account later today. The interest I would earn doesn't equate to enough when factoring in fees for their odd banking practices. Update: Of course, as I am closing the account, the assistant manager credits the fee as a courtesy ("since I have never had a fee credited in the past"). It would have been nice if they were courteous in the first place to their long time customer with no negative history. read more

Wow - I just had the best service experience. I am starting a business and needed to set up several accounts. Manager, Olivia Cox not only ensured that everything was done accurately, she offered services I hadn't yet thought of that will really help me. Online banking, Deposit only Atm card, and checks. I would recommend this branch. I have worked with 3 individuals this week who were all excellent. Friendly staff at this branch, ample parking. Becu is general provides a minimum amount of service with low fees, which is nice, but lacks the amenities of larger banks. The Internet banking, which is essential to Becu's business model is nonfunctional/down at least once a week it seems. I am constantly considering changing to a better bank. read more

My account got overdrawn by a bunch of small paypal transactions made fraudulently on my account, which they charged me a bunch of nsf fees for. I went in and talked to them about it, they said they would look into it. In the meantime they continued to allow these fraudulent charges to go through and continued to charge me nsf fees until my account was overdrawn over $300, most of which was from the $25 nsf fees for each of the multiple fraudulent charges I told them about. My paycheck came, it was eaten up by the negative balance, right before Christmas (December 18th), no presents or first family christmas pics for my 10 month old daughter's first Christmas because I get paid bi-weekly. I had to borrow money from a friend for diapers and food right before Christmas as it was. I go in and tell them look, this can't happen, they offer to close that account and open me new one while they investigate. Well they investigate and decide it was fraud, they zero the negative balance on my accounts (which did not make me even for the money eaten up to this) and close both of my accounts without saying anything to me. So new year's eve, the paycheck I'm supposed to get I don't, check my account, closed! And guess what, because of the holiday there is no one from payroll to talk to to have my money go to a non-closed bank account from which I can actually access my money until the 2nd, so two holidays, both firsts with my baby girl, completely fucked because of the incompetence of these becu idiots! I am so pissed, I have told everybody, alot of people I know who have becu are gonna empty and close their accounts after all of this. I'm gonna post on facebook, twitter, wherever so no one else goes through this shit, we did not deserve this! I will be going to chase, who my wife has been banking with for years, who not only caught fraudulent charges to her account own their on but had her account credited for them the next day and didn't charge her any nsf fees or close her account! read more
