For general banking it is fine, but on my heloc they had the wrong address on the form even though the address was the house I live in and they for some reason had a different one than what the heloc was applied to and because of that my original $56,000 heloc became a 36,000 heloc because the time in between applying for a new one they claimed my equity had dropped that much.. was very frustrating and made it so we weren't able to secure the funds to purchase the property we were looking at alongside repairs on our existing house. read more

Tapco operates as an unapologetic shell. If you call with a problem they have to call their own vendors. Visa Redemption Phones were not working at tapco yesterday. I got sent to a shared branch dump. It was not tapco and they gave me tapcos phone number. I don't want a bank that I can't reach and routes me to strangers after a long hold. It is possible I did not inform them of my new car purchase and that I had insurance coverage but when I got the letter asking for it I thought it was for additional coverage not the usual full coverage you put on a new car. So yes they threatened to put their own more expensive coverage and bump my payments to twice what I was paying. They also have claimed I have missed payments. I have 4 different bank accounts for different things. From Bank of America to USAA and Navy Federal. This Credit Union sets the standard for customer service, friendly staff, great rates and relationship building! I am not sure what more they could do to be any better!?! Literally the friendliest staff, always remember my name, always smiling and quick to help, they don't like people having to wait. Gave me a incredible loan rate on my motorcycle. Wow! I have a commercial mortgage and a residential mortgage, I was calling about combining my business and personal online banking so that I could see the functionality and possibly start utilizing their deposit accounts. The lady I spoke to was so rude I will never do business with them again. I'm retired from banking. For a representative to have such rude and bad customer service, this has to be indicative of the culture at this financial institution. Updated review: The bank manager personally reached out to me to help resolve some of the issues I was continuing to have. She went above and beyond to correct the wrongs that had happened on our account and I'm super appreciative of that kind of customer service. The bank services are still difficult to navigate as I typically only bank online, but will continue to leave our car loan with TAPCO for ease. Original review: Not a fan. It's difficult to access my account online and I get locked out frequently and have to call to get back in. Today I took coins to deposit into my son's savings account and they wouldn't accept them unless I pre-rolled them. Makes zero sense. You are a bank. Money is what you do. They also informed me that they had updated a payment account for my car loan (I had closed an account and then debited that account, causing my closed account to overdraw. I then had to manually send a check in and they kept both payments. Really terrible service. read more

The individuals working here are very nice. But the level of services offered is not consistent or competitive. As others have mentioned, the drive through ATM was out of service for an extended time; another time, the ATM would not accept a deposit. The online app also has outages; and when my wife had an issue accessing her account, or I had issue service hours were so limited and took multiple calls to restore. Finally, when I hit a hard patch, I discovered TAPCO charges $32 for Non-Sufficient Funds. With bills on auto-pay, that stacked up quick; and unlike my other credit union, I got no alerts about the situation. No email, text or phone call, despite them having all 3 means to contact me. If you are lucky, something will arrive in the mail. They refunded 2 of the fees; which sounds generous until you realize that other credit unions charge far less ($10 at BECU). One of the attractions of a credit union is the idea that they exist for members and don't prey on customers for profit. When I started banking in Tacoma, TAPCO was near my house and work, so it was an easy choice. After I moved, I found that shared branching is not what it used to be for credit unions; some have opted out, making the patchwork of bilateral relations unreliable. Despite the inconvenience of relocating all the bill pay data, we've decided to move on. read more

The name says it all. After purchasing a car I had to have a checking account opened and have automatic bill pay set up. I went with the credit union going on my previous experience with credit unions. Tapco says it all! They TAP my account by taking out more payments then what was scheduled. My bank Wells Fargo and I had difficulties getting things straightened out and after months I am still dealing with the mess to my credit. I understand COVID has complicated things, but how does a elevated bill payment company ever make a suggested list unless the shady car deal gets something for such a shady bank. I have an auto loan through tap code and it is. Impossible to make my payment through Their app or online through another institution without putting a bunch of information in. I should be able to pay it on a debit card. Just like thousands of purchases. I make online would not suggest. This rating is specifically pertaining to Tapco's online and phone customer services. I have been a member for 8 years +/-, and have always had excellent interactions IN PERSON at their branches. However we moved out of the area and had to utilize their remote customer service options, which have been abysmal. I don't know if they're overworked or just hate their jobs, but they always seem inconvenienced. The last straw was when a mystery charge was levied against another bank we are utilizing for a construction loan during a wire transfer, which I had to reimburse. When I inquired with Tapco customer service, I was told that they don't charge the outgoing institution. When I told them I had documentation showing the charge, they repeated that they don't charge the outgoing institution, and they didn't want to even see the documentation. When I told them that I would be switching to another financial institution, SUDDENLY they wanted to discuss it further and review the document. Next time, try helping your customer trouble shoot the situation from the start instead of blowing them off. Too little too late for us. We will be moving all of our funds elsewhere as soon as possible. read more

Probably the worst credit union in the business. They operate more like a collection agency than a lender. Once you set up auto withdrawal, they just take payments whenever they feel like it without remorse or consequences. In fact, Wells Fargo opened a fraud investigation in order to get them to stop over drafting the account! They'll even lose payment and then debit your account a second time and accept no responsibility for the consequences YOU face. Theres a reason you've never heard of this company. But, I assure you, they are FAMOUS with the Better Business Bureau. read more

About 2 months ago I wrote a review based on an experience I had at tapco that created some heartburn with me. TAPCO Read my review and contacted me with regards to my concerns. The absolute most wonky outdated way to bank online. The app works half of the time, and the online banking is outdated at best. ATM deposits are a joke because they take a week to fix their ATMs. Sure small and local is great but you can tell they spend your money elsewhere. read more

My husband and I got an auto loan through tapco 2 1/2 years ago. Since day one it has been nothing but a headache. I used to pay in person until we moved back home to VA when my husband got out of the military and now they charge a $15 convenience fee to pay online or by phone. They offered for me to pay in person...yeah let me just travel 3000 miles to do that. Now they added an extra fee for lapse of insurance, I have sent proof 3 times they finally removed the fee. Now two months after removing the fee they claim they never received it and need it again. I would not send my worst enemy to them. So.... I missed a 26$ Visa payment. I guess this sort of over sight can happen to anyone, truly I am far from perfect. As quickly as my error was noticed on my ledger, I sent a DOUBLE payment, prior to receiving any notice. SO, what's the big deal? I received a CREDIT THREATENING LETTER IN THE MAIL. Seriously, It was TWENTY SIX dollars. My checking and savings combined...are WAY MORE THAN 26 dollars. OH.. I don't give a rat's hat about 26 dollars, its just that I was THREATENED. I honestly don't even know where to start... This is the WORST loan company I have ever had. They offer a "SKIP" payment option during the holidays "SEEMS TO BE A GOOD THING" right??? WRONG!! I must warn everyone that has done/ or is doing one, a "skip payment" is going to COST you BIG TIME. My car payment is $400 a month, we took advantage of the skip payment program "5" times it extended our loan by 5 month plus a extra $1,500, they call it Accrued financing for extending the loan. so the "EXTRA" interest that they add to your "SKIP PAYMENT" is HUGE!!! I have called several times, only to be told someone would call me back......... They do not call back! I have spoke to numerous people "Wendy" being the main one. My husband and I even scheduled a appointment to sit down with "Wendy" so that we may understand why we still owe this much to our loan. Wendy only could say that it is interest for skipping the payments. I would also like to add that my account has been showing closed on my credit report for years, and still has not been fixed. They have the Worst Customer Service Ever!!! SERIOUSLY avoid getting a loan/Account with TAPCO. I would prefer to give 0 stars but that was not a option. And I am the one who initiated ALL contact that was made with Tapco, it would take days for anyone to call me back. Sadly, TAPCO does not appear to focus on customer service or convenience. My experience has been a headache from day one of my auto loan, will be closing it off today and will probably never use them again. I'm new to credit unions, and one of the things that I really liked about them was the shared branching between different credit unions.... until I came here. I went to deposit my rent money into my account in their drive thru and an error occured and did not give me my money back OR post to my account... I went in to tell them their ATM was not working and all I got was bad attitude and the "manager" kept repeating "well you're not a member here so I cant help you" worst customer service I've ever received. They wanted me to leave there without any proof at all that I had made a deposit or without them taking any responsibility for their falty equipment. I've been a member for 10+ years at this 19th street location, and I ended up closing my account today because of the rude customer service I had received. I get people having bad days, everyone has them, but if you can't be nice to your customers then you need to take a personal day because I will no longer be reccomending Tapco to any friends or family. This lady was very rude, unhelpful and had a horrible attitude. While I have always loved this bank, this is not the first time I have noticed the customer service going downhill. I've had my account # and password not work online and I've called and it took days to get a call back. This was on 2 different occasions. No help was offered at the time of the phone call. If your job is to help and talk to people and you can't even be nice, then please find another job because you're making the company you work for look bad. read more

This credit union decided to start charging a monthly $5 fee for inactivity with no notice of a change of terms. I was a member for 6 years and never paid a fee. Absolutely terrible and very inconvenient financial institute I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I think their motto is "how more inconvenient can we make it for you?" Online payment? Nope! Send in payment? Won't provide address or envelope or any direction. I set up automatic payment with my bank, they don't cash it. I call over the phone to make the payment - they charge 15 dollars over the phone. Are you kidding me? My favorite taco truck won't charge me extra by paying with a credit card, Credit Union can afford to accept my payment without additional fees. I don't live in Tacoma to come into the branch, I have to go to shared branch. Oh they can't look me up, I have to have my account number. Tapco has not sent me a single piece of paper that states the account number, not even their statement, nothing online, it is SUPER secret. I just want to freaking make a payment guys. I am at a branch and they tell me to call to get my account. I call but darn, they are closed after 5 even though it is only 5:05 pm on a Tuesday. I go home. Wait until the next day for them to have their cup of coffee and start their day at 9 am, because fuck getting there at 8 am, right? Finally get someone to answer and after asking for my full social security number and NUMEROUS security question down to what kind of car I have, I got my number but only under one condition - don't ask for it again... We only give it out once per year over the phone. Next time you lose it, you would need to drive to Tacoma dealing with i5 traffic, come into the branch and sacrifice your first born child.
