When we called to inform them, they denied the allegation and furthermore implied that we must have brought them with us and would not do anything about it. The outcome was that we needed a special extermination treatment at a cost of $2000, a new box and matres set of $1500 and had to discard some apparel. along with all the grief, inconvenience and aggravation. We called again to see if their insurance would cover it and it went on def ears. A little google research indicated that Athens Ohio is infested with bed bugs - unbeknown to us at the time but quite sure the locals are aware of it, let along the hospitality inns. My advice is, STAY AWAY FROM THERE!

One minute you're driving along backroads in Ohio and then BAM, you're starting at a medieval castle. Ravenwood Castle is well known for its focus on games of all kinds - board games, social deduction games, scavenger hunts - you name it, they have it. My mom and I came for a special weekend where they were hosting a murder mystery. Put on by a separate company, but hosted within Ravenwood Castle, our murder mystery experience started on Friday night and ran through Sunday morning. We worked in teams to solve the mystery and along the way participated in goofy and quirky games and puzzles to help us score points. When you stay, you can eat on site, or you can book a cabin and bring & prepare food in a small kitchenette. Alternatively, there are a few places you can order from / go out to in the surrounding areas, but nothing is particularly close by because the castle is in a remote area. While I found the food to be mediocre, the beer and whiskey selection is great, and a surprise stand out was their version of butterbeer, which is dangerously chuggable. If you're someone who loves board games and wants a weekend away to connect with friends or family, this is a great place to go!

There is a plethora to choose from as soon as you check in or when you're dining in the pub or premade scavenger hunts to do while walking around the property during your stay. My husband and I aren't board game enthusiasts but we did have a great time at the castle. After checking in we made our way to the King Arthur Suite, a short walk from the check-in desk and through the dining hall. The door to the King Arthur Suite is quite literally in the middle of the dining hall which we personally felt was kind of awkward because it is a prime gathering space for most of the guests. The two story suite was spacious, painted in a funky green and featured a giant jacuzzi tub which was the highlight of the room. A comfortable four poster bed on the second story made us feel like royalty and is close to the door that leads to a porch over looking the grounds behind the castle. My husband made a fire in the large fire pit outside of the castle that is closer to the cabins. The area was stocked with wood and we spent the majority of our evening enjoying a warm fire on the cool fall night. The pub downstairs serves beer and basic bar fare. It wasn't very busy when we stopped by but service was wonderful and we felt very welcome. Another couple proposed the four of us play a game together and we reluctantly obliged. Our patient competitors taught us how to play "Ticket To Ride" and it was a blast. So, in the end, Ravenwood Castle (and our new friends) did turn us into game people.

We travel around the area to experience scenic beauty and fine dining. Sometimes we stay local and…read moresometimes we travel a few hours just to enjoy a brunch and good view. I am Celiac and have to be careful about certain items and also the chance of cross-contamination. So prior to driving two and a half hours to dine at Stockport Mill Inn, we called to ask about the menu. We were assured that there were many options that would be gluten free. Reservations were made for noon which is when they open. We arrived a few minutes before noon and enjoyed observing the scenery and reading the historical markers on the property. At noon, the door was still locked. Finally one of the people in our party ventured around to the back and went in the back door (clearly marked "exit") and came to the front door and directed us to the back door for entry. Shortly after we were let in the back door, somebody (I think the owner) ambled over to the front door with a key and let the rest of the waiting guests inside. When we got to the restaurant area, a woman started talking (almost yelling) that the one table in the back and three tables on the side were reserved and we could sit anywhere but those tables. I said we had a reservation and told her the name and she just repeated what she had shouted out before. I asked if one of the reserved tables were ours and she shouted out the command again. So we went into the dining area and found an open table and seated ourselves. She eventually came and asked if we had been there before and we said we had not. She took our drink orders and told us it was buffet style and to go up to get our food. (Only it was not really buffet style; it was really cafeteria style as the servers dished up the plates for us which was fine.) We gave her our drink orders and I said that I am Celiac and wanted to make sure there were some gluten free options. She said, "Are you the ones that called?" To which we replied that we were and she said, "Okay she said, no bread, no potatoes, no pasta and no desserts." And that was it. She walked away. I was somewhat perplexed about the potato exclusion because I could see that they were serving mashed potatoes but perhaps they were instant and some of those do contain wheat. I took a glance at the options of main entrees and mentioned to my husband that I was not sure I could eat any of the options. Once we got to the serving line, that same woman was there dishing out salads. I requested no croutons and she just looked at me. Again I said, no croutons please. So she put a little salad on my plate. I asked for onions and she just froze. So I said, "Onions please" and so she put two tiny pieces of onion on my plate. I asked for a small dish of fruit as well. As I approached the main entree section, I saw that there was some chicken. Since chicken was not mentioned as an excluded food, I asked the second server if the chicken was breaded. She said, "I don't know." Then she asked the other server if the chicken was breaded and she practically shouted, "I said that she said, no bread, no potatoes, no pasta and no desserts!" At this point I was afraid to ask about any of the other options. I have been Celiac for so many years and I know what questions to ask, but since the server was so hateful I just decided to have a salad and nothing else. When we were all seated at our table, I began to eat my salad, trying to eat as slowly as I could so that it would last throughout everyone else's meal. One of the people at our table had finished his food and gone back for seconds. The hateful server came by and asked if she could clear those plates. I asked for a second glass of tea. She did bring a second glass of tea and silently placed it on the table as she passed by to another table. I also drank all that tea and my empty glass remained on the table. The server came around a few minutes later with drinks for everyone at the table except me, did not take notice of the two empty glasses in front of me or offer to bring me another refill. Now, I have dined at countless establishments and I have had excellent service as well as poor service over the years and across the globe. So a rude server is not a new experience for me. The majority of our experiences are good, but I have also had my fair share of mediocre and poor service. I rarely complain. I try to understand that sometimes people just are not on their game; maybe there is something else going on that I am not aware of. I also understand that many people do not understand that Celiac is a disease, not just a fad diet. Asking for particular items is not my way of making their life miserable. It is just a fact of life that I cannot eat certain foods that contain gluten. So I try to factor that into how I rate my service. I could have just assumed she was having a bad day; I could have assumed that she did not understand the severity of my condition. But it went from
