My two daughters attended NYC public elementary, middle and high schools. Bee Tutored played a big part in the academic success of my girls, as neither my wife nor I were expert enough in mathematics and science to guide them through challenging patches. Over six or seven years, we've used an equal number of tutors. Owner Kate Pritchard was extremely responsive and did a good job matching my daughters' challenges with a tutor (usually college aged or recently graduated from college) who had absolute mastery of the subject. Only on one occasion did we ask for a rematch. Bee Tutored sent over a replacement tutor the following week -- and we continue to use him 16 months later for my daughter, a senior at Brooklyn Tech. We credit the work of Bee Tutored during middle school, along with SHSAT prep classes, with helping my youngest gain admission to one of the specialized high schools, Brooklyn Tech. Had the Bee Tutored tutoring center opened several years ago, we would have availed ourselves to their SAT and ACT college test prep, which our girls took at Kaplan. They found Kaplan sterile and uninspiring, not to mention disorganized. Test grades were often not posted on time and classes were canceled without advance notice. My oldest daughter saw no improvement in her score from PSAT to SAT, even after taking the Kaplan course twice. Bee Tutored is the antithesis of for-profit, corporate tutoring mills like Huntington, Sylvan, Kaplan and Princeton Review. Anytime I have wanted to speak with the owner, Kate, I reached her via email and phone. She takes pride in her business and the success of kids receiving tutoring from Bee Tutored. As a longtime customer of the business, I attended the open house for the new tutoring center and met the Scratch computer programming tutor and the SHSAT prep tutor. They were just like the young adults that have mentored my kids over the years -- bright, warm and eager to teach. I recommend Bee Tutored to any parent who doesn't have the time and/or skills to help his or her kid with homework and test prep. After receiving private SHSAT test tutoring in 8th grade, our daughter missed placement by what we understand was about 1 question. She decided she wanted to try again for 10th grade entry and another parent suggested we look at Bee Tutored. We knew the opportunity for 10th grade seats was significantly lower and performance would need to be significantly higher to even have a remote chance of receiving a seat at a school she wanted to attend. Management at Bee Tutored was open and honest about the challenge ahead and worked to help strategize with us and our daughter toward success and responsive and caring to our questions and concerns. They explained facets of scoring and the test that we wish had been conveyed to us by the previous tutor (if they knew) a year earlier. Our assigned tutor was an Ivy League grad, focused on curriculum and progress and engaged our daughter well. Our only criticisms would be that the tutor sometimes was not as responsive to our out-of-session concerns as we might have liked and often wasn't quick to send material needed for next assignments, making it necessary to rush to prep for some. In the end, success! Our daughter scored exactly 100 points higher on the test and was offered 1 of what last year were only 2 available seats at her most desired school. Surely her own drive and determination are a part of this outcome, but there is no doubt the preparation she received from Bee Tutored played the major role. Do not be surprised if you suddenly see new reviews rating their service as excellent after my review. Take those with a grain of salt. I hired this tutoring service to prepare my daughter for the Specialized H.S. tests. We shall know how helpful they were once the results come out next year. My issue with them was not so much the content but the execution. The tutor who was assigned to my daughter was a very nice lady but would arrive at the sessions late. She would make up the time but I felt it was inconsiderate of her to come late. She would promise to send work to my daughter via e-mail and I would have to remind her days later before the documents were sent. I did tell the owner of my issues with the tutor and she apologized. Nevertheless I would not use their services again. They left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I emailed them my child's practice exam and they haven't sent me the break down of her results yet. Bee Tutored had a wonderfully helpful tutor who got my son ready for the SHSAT. My son had a free SHSAT prep class in 7th grade through his public middle school, but we needed some help in the fall of 8th grade before the test itself. For four Wednesdays before the test the tutor came to our apartment and got my son comfortable with all parts of it. My son was very comfortable with his tutor, who was good at engaging him and figuring out the best way to approach the test prep.
