ShockYard also gives back to the community by participating in workouts and tying them into some kind of community service. They've participated in kickball tournaments to raise money for dog rescues, Relay for Life walks, and kayaking and hiking while cleaning up Morton Park. Over the past four years, they have purchased new equipment, and bought adjacent buildings/rooms to give their customers more space and selection. The staff is very friendly and flexible for students and people coming in and out of Ithaca as long as you're upfront with them. As a gym alone, it's certainly the best gym in Ithaca amongst it's competitors, and one of my favorites that I've ever been apart of.

THEN You should have told us on the phone that you'll refuse to rent us kayak paddles separately from your kayaks because all of your kayaks (and the paddles associated with them) have all been otherwise reserved and you have no spare paddles for us to rent. Your apathetic and unapologetic staff at least had the courtesy of suggesting Eastern Mountain Sports might have paddles for us to rent, instead. I'm so grateful I found them…read more Before signing up for a trial class, I'd never even picked up a barbell, and CrossFit lingo sounded like alphabet soup to me. But Jana, Andy, and the other CFV coaches met me exactly where I was at fitness- and knowledge-wise to help me feel comfortable and welcome from the start. After struggling for years to stick with any consistent workout routine, at CFV, I've finally found something that's approachable, effective, and lots of fun. I truly look forward to every class. A little more on details: The class sizes are small, which means that everyone gets plenty of personalized coaching throughout the workout, and that no one is a stranger. The coaches are great about correcting for form and taking time to ensure folks are moving correctly to avoid injury. The workouts themselves are different every day, which keeps things interesting, but they're also all easily customizable depending on ability level, physical limitations, etc. The community at CFV is fantastic: all skill levels, all ages, all walks of life. The space itself is bright, cheerful, and clean, and the equipment is all nice and new (they just opened in September 2021). Jana and Andy are constantly making additions and improvements to the space to make it even better. I'm looking forward to continuing my fitness journey with CFV.
