Since hot muggy summers are a thing in Houston, so too are community pools such as Willow Pool,…read morewhich is located in the heart of Meyerland. It is low-key, easy to miss, neighborhood gathering spot that is perfect for groups, families, and solo swimmers. Looking for a dip from the heat. Folks who are part of the community will be able to enter without charge. Everyone else pays $5. Parking is available on site but is limited. Once inside there is plenty of seating to accommodate different groups and sizes. Like most community pools, there are teenage lifeguards who are very attentive and provide breaks throughout the sessions to keep the pool behavior in check. I appreciate that they're doing a solid job keeping an eye on things while still helping cultivate a laid-back atmosphere. The water is clean and there are lots of youngins running around. A big tip would be to bring a fly deterrent and bug spray just in case. Try not to sit near the trees as those tables are subject to get inundated by flies. I made the mistake of bringing a lot of different foods which in turn brought on lots of bugs. Overall this is a solid neighborhood pool spot. The $5 admission won't break the bank and it's cheaper than many other Community pools. It's hardly luxury, but it is a convenient and affordable option. Pack lots of bug spray and be weary of flies.

I live in the neighborhood and was considering doing classes here but my first impression was…read morepretty disappointing. Came to pick up a family friend from camp with my own newborn and toddler in tow. After waiting in the carpool line I pulled up and proceeded to load them In. A young lady told me I can't stop but to just be quick so I continued. I'm not sure how you safely put kids in the car without stopping, so i didn't realize this was problematic. The next lady that approached me was extremely rude yelling at me that I can't do this and she's going to report it. I let them know I don't the system, but if they tell me a better option I would be happy to do it. There was no reason to be that rude. Politely offering a more appropriate solution would've been sufficient. Instead this lady was aggressive with me as I was juggling two toddlers and a newborn in the Texas summer heat. The last thing I wanted to do was slow down the line, but being nasty about it when the first young lady told me it was ok feels like her anger was misplaced. Unacceptable.

Summer is now bearable with the resort style outdoor pools, plus they have indoor playgrounds for kids. Being members here has transformed our houston experience. Thanks jcc!

I believe in rating places within context. For a YMCA, I think this place is amazing! I came to use…read moremy free one-day trial, and I immediately bought a membership after working out. I had been struggling to find an inexpensive, yet high quality gym that had a good variety of classes to fit my schedule. This location pretty much has classes all day long, I love it! So far I've attended Bodypump and cycling, and I highly endorse both. Something else I love is that they have Les Mills on-demand for the group fitness classes which means you can take a virtual on-demand class anytime there isn't a live class going on. They leave the rooms and equipment open so the possibilities are endless. FYI, the cycling bikes are compatible with SPD cleats.

Here's a more constructive review that clearly explains the problem while offering practical…read moresolutions: Five of the six lap lanes are reserved every weekday from 5:00-7:30 PM for private coaching and swim lessons. That leaves just one lane for every other member who wants to lap swim during the busiest time of the day. It's common to see 10-12 people waiting to share a single lane. In reality, there are effectively no lanes consistently available for general member lap swim during peak evening hours. Members pay for access to the facility too, and the current scheduling heavily favors revenue-generating programs over general member use. This is a solvable problem. A few policy changes could dramatically improve the experience for everyone: * Guarantee at least three of the six lanes remain open for member lap swim at all times, even during lessons. * Use a visible queue board or sign-up system so swimmers know their place in line and don't have to stand around wondering who's next. * Implement a 30-minute time limit during peak hours when others are waiting. * Require circle swimming whenever three or more people are sharing a lane. * Stagger lesson schedules so not all reserved lanes are occupied simultaneously. * Publish a weekly lane availability schedule online and at the pool entrance so members can plan ahead. * Review utilization data to ensure reserved lanes are actually being used. Empty reserved lanes while members wait should never happen. * Survey members and adjust programming based on actual demand rather than assuming current allocation is appropriate. The facility should strive to balance private instruction with the needs of all paying members. Right now, that balance is missing, and the evening lap swim experience has become extremely frustrating.

She responds very quickly through texts and is excellent about notifying scheduling/location changes. We've had three instructors so far. Lisa has designed a program that every instructor follows--which is great for kids since they know what's coming next. Our current instructor is Nina and she is all kinds of wonderful. My toddler was having a very hard time with being in the water without her mom. Nina was kind, very loving and patient with a screaming child. We're 4 lessons in and now my younger daughter happily walks to her teacher. Nina adjusted her lesson to accommodate my children's needs. Overall we couldn't be happier and highly recommend you start your swim lessons here!
