I live in the neighborhood and was considering doing classes here but my first impression was pretty disappointing. Came to pick up a family friend from camp with my own newborn and toddler in tow. After waiting in the carpool line I pulled up and proceeded to load them In. A young lady told me I can't stop but to just be quick so I continued. I'm not sure how you safely put kids in the car without stopping, so i didn't realize this was problematic. The next lady that approached me was extremely rude yelling at me that I can't do this and she's going to report it. I let them know I don't the system, but if they tell me a better option I would be happy to do it. There was no reason to be that rude. Politely offering a more appropriate solution would've been sufficient. Instead this lady was aggressive with me as I was juggling two toddlers and a newborn in the Texas summer heat. The last thing I wanted to do was slow down the line, but being nasty about it when the first young lady told me it was ok feels like her anger was misplaced. Unacceptable. read more

The most amazing community center / gym ever. We love love love this place. So incredibly clean, spacious, organized, and relaxing. Summer is now bearable with the resort style outdoor pools, plus they have indoor playgrounds for kids. Being members here has transformed our houston experience. Thanks jcc! read more

The gym is affiliated with the JCC. In between Chimney Rock and Hillcroft off of Braeswood. Pull into the parking lot and head towards the back for the entrance. The location is great to the Meyerland/Bellaire and surrounding communities. The gym is filled with everything you need to get a great workout. They have a changing room, and also cubbies to hold your belongings. Electric machines, weights, cross fit equipment. They have personal trainers to help. Very clean facility, water on hand if you forgot your own and coffee. The gym has a spin room and a separate room for their many classes which include, body pump, yoga, Zumba, pilates, strength training, women only classes on hand and over 60 classes as well and many more. There is a monthly schedule listed online. I believe with the membership you also have access to the pool and they do have classes. The downfall is that they don't have a ton of evening classes for working folks, but there are some options. Most classes are in the morning to early afternoon. Overall I am very happy with this gym. People of all ages and all walks of life will be found here. read more

Beware of their learn to swim program. An instructor restrained a child so forcefully during swim lessons (while the child was screaming crying) that the child was left with BRUISES all over their neck. Even though the head of the aquatic department Paige was notified regarding this incident, nothing was done, and the instructor STILL works there. I am horrified by the fact that the department head did not take this seriously. read more

Excellent for indoor tennis. One of the best gym facilities in Houston. Never overly crowded and overall well maintained.

I joined in January 2024 today is March, I like to do fitness and they do have many machines, only my big complaint about women steam room, it is always has problem, when you call staff member to check if it is working they said yes, when you arrived it did not. When you complaint nothing done, and nobody knows anything. Now they finally put a sign on the door that it has to be fix with some engineering work to be evolved. I am paying $100 every month for fitness and pool , but they don't care about the services that could not deliver to members. Also sauna glass door not closing all the way, it has to be fixed as well , I hope my review will help new members what I am facing now, I am going to freeze my membership until steam room and sauna will fix, members can freeze membership up to 2 months per year, if they could not fix or they have to give membership some discounts for inconvenience, I will start looking anew place for my needs. read more

Looks like a great facility but I went there twice could not get a tour both times; and I had already called in. In my opinion, they were rude after we explained we were told to come back today. Never said sorry, just said not enough staff, then the person looked to lady next to her said... would you be ok if they go see gym. then she proceeded, quite annoyed and clearly correcting me now, to tell me I could have booked this online, but I already did go in and put my info to book online and I had already told her I'd talked to someone there from that. She was rude and cold and never once smiled, said welcome.... I had been so excited to see and join with my husband. I think they have plenty of customers. Like I said I have not doubt it's a great facility, but for me, I also like some decent service too. read more

I first walked through the doors of this JCC in the Fall of 1978 when I was a student at Texas A&M. Over the years, I have returned as a member and Houston resident in the early 1980s and a frequent visitor when I've been in town on Business. I have particularly enjoyed the athletic facilities and the annual Book Fair. The JCC is also a short walk to the home of the parents of my best friend from our Aggie days. It has been and remains a well-equipped and welcoming Community Facility. The JCC was also one of my early introductions to Debbie Friedman, who often touched various parts of my Jewish life over the years. Hence, I was shocked to learn of her untimely death just a few days from a viral infection at the age of 59. Over the last four decades Debbie recorded more than 20 albums of songs that combine English and Hebrew texts with folk rhythms. Among her best-known compositions is "Mi Sheberach," the Jewish prayer for healing. Written for a friend who was struggling to adjust to getting older, it became a central part of the Jewish healing movement, which reaches out to people coping with serious illness. Her music is most popular in Reform and Conservative synagogues, but it has also been performed in Orthodox Jewish settings and in Christian churches. Her primary objective was to "try to make prayer user friendly," she told Reform Judaism magazine in 2002. "Because the music is in a familiar genre, people are able to make the connection between the music and the text. The real power is in the poetry of the liturgy, how moving and stirring it can be, connecting us to our deepest and most precious ideas, hopes, and fears." Where's Debbie? This review is for the Gymnastics Facilities. I recently started coming to this gym for their Gymnastics Open Gym. It's a lot of fun, and not expensive either. The staff gives you free reign to do whatever you like on the equipment, and I always get a great workout in while I'm there. Besides the open gym, the gymnastics teams (men's and women's) are amazing. These kids look like future olympians! If you're looking for a great place for your child to learn gymnastics, this is the the place. The coaches are top notch (two are former Olympians!) and the facilities have everything you need to learn all the tricks of the trade. If I wasn't so old I'd be begging my parents to sign me up there! read more

I wanted to write about the JCC's Tennis Center. It's one of Houston's hidden gems. 6 indoors courts, 4 outdoors. Great pros. Excellent for kids and adults. And if that's not enough, the swimming pool and fitness centers are just next door. read more

I am reviewing the fitness center. I love this fitness center. They are very client focused. They have all sorts of equipment, great variety of classes, fantastic trainers...it really is great. There isn't much natural light, but you get used to it. It is usually pretty quiet and not too busy, so it isnt hard to get the machines/classes/space you want. Also, if you are a novice, this is a great gym for you. It isn't a meat-market type gym. It is really alot of normal people working out. So even if you are way out of shape, it would be great for you. You can get 3 orientation sessions for free when you join. Use them! They are worth it! The babysitting hours aren't fantastic (8-12, 4-8) and the room isnt so fantastic either, but I think its a fair trade off. The sitters are all very nice and the kids arent in there long so they just play or watch a cartoon. My kids never complain. read more

We found the JCC when my son was diagnosed with autism. Our developmental pediatrician recommended their program for speech delayed and/or high functioning autistic children. My son did well there but ended up needing more help than they offer. Since then, our daughter now attends their preschool for Neuro typical children and we love the preschool! Amazing teachers and spectacular administrative staff. The gym is outstanding too! read more

I just recently started working as a camp counselor at the JCC, and I truly feel so welcomed. From day one of training they made sure all of us would be nice and held to every camper, and every member, no matter if you know them or not. The directors are amazing, and very helpful, they are always open for questions, suggestions and always there to help. I cannot stress enough, how amazing the JCC is. read more

This JCC was hit so hard by the hurricane Harvey! They are resilient in that they have started the process of rebuilding to be a awesome community center. What a great facility. They even helped get food out to neighboring people with the need for help. It was great touring this awesome facility. The JCC is a special place to me. I learned how to swim in their outdoor pool when I was a kid, I went there to summer camp, and now I mostly utilize the facility to work out. The J as it is known by many people had been hit hard by the floods of recent years that have plagued the Meyerland area. Since the last flood from Harvey they have rebuild the entire gym and purchased all brand new equipment. They have plenty of cardio from treadmills, elliptical trainers, stair climbers etc. All of the TVs work on the their machines, unlike some other gyms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They recently put up two power cages to do the heavy stuff like squats which is really nice! They have three bench presses that are adjustable from incline/flat/decline which is great to not have to wait for a piece of equipment to open up. The angle could be a little bit more aggressive on the decline but time saved not having to wait for a bench to open up is a good trade off. They have a preacher bench and dumb bells that go up to 110 lbs. There is a pretty good mix of machines which I don't really use but my wife likes. The staff make it a point to be personable and helpful. There is a good mix of people at the J from young adults to elderly people. They make fresh Katz's coffee daily which is a huge plus. Awesome rebuild, definitely a great place to train! read more
