It's our…read morefamilies 'go to' Chinese takeaway (I'm really sorry Mrs Lee at Davenham's Sun Ho - I love your special fried rice - please forgive me). It's small, family owned and consistent. Consistently brilliant. Our usual order is as follows: (feeds 3 adults and one bottomless-pit Brother) - Sweet and Sour Chicken; it's honestly the best I've had anywhere. Ever - Char Sui Roast Pork; again, amazing - Soft noodles; with bean sprouts and onion - 2 Egg Fried Rice or 1 Chicken/other meat Fried Rice; Tasty, non-greasy - Prawn Crackers - and one other main dish that we choose at random The family/staff who work here are friendly and super organised; when you arrive for collection (they don't deliver) the orders are spread in a fan over a silver tray - they know exactly which docket to choose from the delicately arranged pile, they pop into the kitchen and out with a bag of take-out-container filled joy. You can also opt to eat in. The restaurant is fairly small but the service is exceptional and the food is wonderful regardless of where you eat it. Car parking can be a little tricky at busy times. It's just off the main road with the car spaces in front. It's tight squeeze to manoeuvre if you're wedged in nearest the house. Also, watch out for the sneaky traffic light camera as you approach. But hey, even if you do get flashed on your way to mouthfuls of heaven - you're the real winner here.

This restaurant has been around for ages, even earning accolades such as Gordon Ramsey's Best Chinese Eatery. However, management has apparently changed and the owners fell on hard times recently. You can't really tell the restaurant has had problems, however. The food was excellent when we went and the service was outstanding. We ordered the tasting menu, as we'd never been to Yu & You before and wanted to try a bit of everything. Prices are a bit high for the area, so maybe save this place for a date night. There is a full bar and plenty of dishes to choose from. I think our favorite dish was the lobster, but honestly everything was lovely. We had a lot of extra food as well, so it was nice to take our leftovers to-go for a cold Chinese food breakfast in the morning ;) Definitely recommend this location for those in the area. The food is high-quality and it's a fun place to celebrate or spend time with friends and loved ones!

The overall impression is that it is over-staffed by young inexperienced staff. As a consequence basic service is very good, but if you ask a question, they have to go and get an elder to sort it out. The menu was rather uninformative: there are only three pork main dishes for example but only one gets a description Honey Roasted Char Sui Pork served with fresh greens. We ordered Thai Style Crispy Pork (no further description). What we got was something that looked remarkably like sweet and sour pork with extra chilli. Four of us had a selection of appetisers (Crispy Wan Ton, Seaweed, Sesame Prawn Toast, Salt & Pepper Ribs); Crispy Duck with 11 pancakes (doesn't divide by 4); Thai Style Crispy Pork, Fillet Steak Cantonese Style, Stir Fried Chicken with Black Bean sauce, Egg Fried Rice and Soft Noodles. The dishes were all tasty, but some of the vegetables were perhaps a little under-cooked: almost raw. Again the service was good: they allowed us to change Steamed Sea Bass for Thai Style Crispy Pork, and allowed us to change the Egg Fried Rice to a mixture of rice and Soft Noodles. The food was good, not the best Chinese I've ever had, but definitely amongst the best: my problem is the cost. I don't know if it has gone up since winning the Restaurant of the Year accolade, but it is certainly very dear now. The winning menu is available which includes a Wagyu (a.k.a. Kobe) beef dish and costs £80 per head. We chose something more modest: the above banquet for four people, a bottle of water and a relatively modest bottle of wine came to a substantial £170+ bill. Individual dishes don't seem too dear, but it all seems to add up rather alarmingly. The restaurant has a slight night-club feel with a large bar area and strange choice of background music and a good sized car park. Overall: a good meal, copious inexperienced staff, expensive bill. If it was better value it would be 4*, as it is three will have to do.

These sorts of things you'd expect on the outside of a cheap Chinese restaurant or a take-away, but The China Room is a good few rungs above the common herd. A few years ago when this place was called The Pavillion, it was a proper old-fashioned English-Chinese restaurant, complete with waiters in black waistcoats and bowties, plinky-plonky music, and finger bowls. Now it's become modern and fresh, whilst still retaining a few traditional touches, such as the Chinese design chairs. The staff wear t-shirts, and are more relaxed, whilst still being very friendly and professional, which is pleasant. We were a group of four, and decided to go for 'Set Menu E' which was the 'Banquet Menu', and good god they weren't kidding! At several points we forgot what else was coming out after each course, it was an Oriental magical mystery tour! Set Menu E was £23.50 per person and included a choice of two soups: chicken and sweetcorn or (as seen above) the classic hot and sour soup. We all agreed the soups were delicious, and the hot and sour soup left your nose running and your throat warm, despite tons of flavour... that's the sign of a good hot and sour soup! My favourite part was the above platter, which had some of the tastiest ribs I've ever tasted, deliciously crisp chicken spring rolls, some curried samosas (which were nice, but an unusual choice), and some prawn dumplings as well as good ol' 'seaweed'. This whole platter was delicious, and not a single bit was left at the end, not even a strand of seaweed! One thing I did like is that between courses, when clearing the table, the waitress would use a little table-top vacuum cleaner thingy... well, not a vacuum, but what looked like a glasses case with rotating brushes in it to brush up the crumbs and detritus on the table. I liked this as I hadn't seen it before. The next part was a duck, which was beautifully shredded for us by our waitress at the table. We agreed that sometimes a duck can be dry, but this one was delicious and full of flavour, perfectly accented by the delicious hoisin sauce and pancakes, and a lovely generous bowl of excellent quality fried rice, which we thought was akin to a paella, complete with prawns, but still delicious. There's no shame in admitting that this was taken home in a doggy bag! At this point we were asked if we'd like a five or ten minute break before the next course, which I think is a great idea, and very thoughtful, but we decided to try and be heroes, and carried on regardless! Also at this point a musician came into the restaurant and started playing instrumental versions of various 80s and 90s songs. He was good, and it was pleasant, if not a little bit loud as he used an amp. We did however find ourselves playing "name that tune" amongst ourselves, but it was nice to have live music with dinner. Carrying on, this was the part where we were trying to remember what the next dishes coming out was, followed by "oh yes, I forgot that part!" as we were presented with four plates containing more deliciousness, this time a very juicy beef in garlic with spring onions, some pork, some very tasty vegetables with a unique flavouring, and a delicious sweet and sour chicken, which stood out for me as sometimes Chinese sweet and sour chicken can be quite soggy, but this was succulent with a lovely crisp outer, which was superb! Service was friendly and attentive, and we never had to wait long to have our plates cleared or to be kept updated with drinks by the friendly and helpful team. The China Room is a great place for a nice dinner out whether on a budget, or for a special occasion, as you always get that good service and the excellent quality food. The nice thing about it being in Pavillion Square is that you have an abundance of free parking right outside, making it easier to waddle back to your car after being filled up with delicious food!

They were very helpful, and gave me the good news I could have crispy duck with lettuce wraps - it was delicious! Something I've not had in over ten years, and can't find in America. I was in heaven. I then had the chicken with ginger and spring onions, with fried rice - they even went to the store next door to purchase new GF soy sauce! WOW! It too was delicious; I wanted more. This has renewed my faith in eating Chinese out, and I've already experimented with a local place in Austin TX when I got back - and no issues! Will be visiting again upon our return to England...
