Can you say Baller Status? This hotel is something out of a dream. Ideal for a honeymoon, digital detox, girls getaway, or simply living in a postcard. The photos are mere 2D temptations of the 3D luxury that awaits. You gotta see it to believe it. Perched on the cliffs above the most popular beach in Portugal, Praia do Rocha, Bela Vista is a historic gem among the otherwise hideous high-rise hotels surrounding it. Portimao is a destination we'd skip if it weren't for the stunning historical palace that is Bela Vista. It's a 1920s private estate that's been converted into a modern hotel, while preserving the classiness of it's bygone era charm. You can stay by the pool or walk down to the beach on a private path. Best of both worlds at your fingertips. Rooms are spacious, modern, and stylishly decorated. We barely left the property, thanks to the luxurious amenities like the pool area with cabanas and bar service, and the restaurant with ocean views (where a sprawling, gourmet breakfast is offered complimentary. It's hands-down the most beautiful, charming, and luxurious place to stay in Portimao. Best of all, it's adults only. Not in a creepy swingers sort of way, but in a calm, quiet, kid-free zen sort of way. Honeymooners, take note! For $200/night this was the best money we spent in Portugal.

I recently had a court day stay at Bela Vista Hotel in Portimão, and I am compelled to give it review. This was one of the most relaxing vacations that I have had in years. Bela Vista Hotel is just beautiful and the staff there could not be nicer, my mother was on the trip with me and they were so thoughtful and welcoming to me and my family for the time we stayed there. The view facing the beach from my hotel room is beyond doubt the best hotel room view I have ever had. The hotel bedroom was immaculately clean and beautiful design. The food was amazing and was incredibly fresh as there is an abundance of local produce, form citrus fruits and olive etc. The hotel interior is unique and like nothing I have ever seen before, there is gorgeous tile work and decor throughout the hotel. There are many areas to relax and hang out in the main building. The pool area is is spectacular in terms of luxury and the views from there. I highly recommend the hotel and I would definitely return.

The view of the hotel from our Mediterranean outside dining. A table for 8 with spectacular views.

NICE HOTEL ACROSS FROM THE MARINA IN LAGOS, PORTUGAL…read more========================================== I found this hotel on my own after doing some research because my son and his wife wanted to go to the Algarve for a few days. My husband's cousin who lives in Cascais and speaks Portuguese booked it for us. The price was very good. I think we paid about 650 euros for two rooms for two nights for my son, daughter-in-law and then my husband and I. I liked everything about this hotel except our view in the rear of the property from Room #207. Our balcony basically faced the bus station, but we were also on the end of the building so we had a peekaboo side view of the marina. It was a comfortable and quiet room at night, so that was good. I would highly recommend booking a room on the side that faces the marina in one of the upper floors. They have a great balcony spanning half of the hotel on the fourth floor. It's a great place to relax at the end of the day. Bring your own beverages and snacks. They also have a small pool area up some stairs overlooking the bus station. They have a small bar by reception and the prices are good. You can get towels for the pool or beach, but you need to leave them a 10 euro deposit per towel. That makes sense or people will forget to bring them back. Easy access to activities at the marina. We booked a boat/kayak tour Ponta da Piedade Caves which was a lot of fun through Days of Adventure. It was a short trip on the water which is nice because I get seasick. I did take some Dramamine which helped too.

Spotlessly clean, updated, and quiet!…read more The room is a ten minute walk from the railroad station, which is how we arrived and departed. Each room has a balcony with two chairs and a table. We chose a room on the west side to avoid the sun while enjoying a morning cup of coffee. It was fun to watch the beehive activity of the live market on Saturday morning. Although the bus terminal is behind the hotel, we couldn't hear anything from there with the door closed. In the evenings, we enjoyed the shade on the roof top patio. They had multiple seating areas, loungers, and a pool. The views were remarkable. Staff members were all respectful, kind, and friendly. The breakfast was complete, including pastries, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, beans, cheeses, cold cuts, juices, and coffee. We chose this hotel primarily because we took the train to Lagos, and didn't want to walk far. But it was also an easy walk to the old town and to the beach.

There are some noticeable differences between Conrad Algarve and other Conrads I've visited (Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, etc.), all of which have fantastic, over the top breakfast buffets, lovely exec lounges, wonderful spa facilities, and (daily) afternoon tea offerings. I believe the main difference boils down to resort hotel vs city hotel, bc resort hotels typically don't have an exec lounge, although some do for VIPs (if your room is located in the VIP corridor, tower, etc.) Overall, an excellent stay! Conrad Algarve opened in Sept 2012 and apparently was the first Conrad to open in Europe. After 12+ years, it appears most of the property is still very well maintained, and most (but def not all) staff were very friendly. BIG SHOUT OUT to Miguel & Jose for being super helpful in and around the lobby/front desk, and of course the lovely Claudia & Mafalda at Luoro breakfast every morning + Loro Lounge Tea Experience! Muito obrigado for the super relaxing stay! Until we meet again! =D

Good but not spectacular, especially for the price. There were some bumps in service and the food…read morethat give the impression of a hotel running during training season rather than at its peak. We tried all of the restaurants during our stay: Gusto (with a Michelin star); Oliveria for breakfast and dinner; and the Nest for cocktails and a dessert. Of the three, Oliveria was the weakest. The oysters we got one night were prepared differently - I thought you're supposed to shuck the entire oyster so the whole thing slides off cleanly, while ours were prepared in a way that left the round, scallop-looking part (the adductor muscle) still attached to the shell and made eating it messy. They also didn't give us any tiny forks to use to loosen the oyster. (Although now that I've done more research, apparently the French style of shucking oysters does leave the adductor muscle on. Leaving it attached apparently demonstrates that the oyster was shucked fresh to order, rather than pre-shucked. But if an oyster is prepared this way, you at least get a small cocktail fork to cut it loose yourself. Sorry for the thesis on oyster shucking styles!) My burger - I needed a bit of a breather from seafood at that point - was also a bit of a mess. Comically massive in size with a very stale bun and the patty tasted under-seasoned, requiring a lot of ketchup and mustard. That said, the banoffee pie we ordered from the Nest was one of the best desserts I've tried in recent memory. Room was beautiful, with ample space and comfortable bedding. That said, there was only a sliding door between the bed and the bathroom area so I wouldn't pick that for a family. Location was a little isolated, with some super high-end shops across the street, but if you want to eat somewhere else, you're going to need to drive or grab a Bolt. It's about 40 minutes from the Benagil caves, an hour from Lagos, and 20-25 minutes from the Faro airport depending on traffic. Bonus points for the free valet service, which was a god-send since we rented a car to explore the Algarve.
