There were tons of people, both locals and tourists, walking around enjoying the food, drinks and items each vendor had to offer here. The place was alive with live music playing, as well as a school group performing dances in one area and a band playing in another area. The vendors were super friendly and we got to try samples of a few different things before we decided to buy a couple things to nibble on while waiting for our hotel to let us check in. There were a ton of different vendors and at this place, I had one of the best bao buns I have ever had, filled with curry chicken! Prices amongst the vendors seemed very reasonable and I ended up buying a couple cute little magnets one vendor had to offer!

At the recommendation of the lovely woman working there, I got the caramelised onion hummus and smothered it all over the garlic bagel (the best thing ever). I also got the sun-dried tomato pesto, which I nearly ate in one sitting. If I lived here, I would be at this stall every week! There were some cute stalls with local vendors selling souvenirs, artwork, and jewellery. There were also quite a few stands with cookies, pastries and sweet treats. These all looked really good. On the other side of the market, there was a lot more hot food. They had everything from tacos, mac and cheese and large portions of fries with various toppings. Everything looked really good and the beef taco from Med Mex was delicious! The sauce was to die for. Definitely worth the visit and might pop back in before I leave!

I do have an issue with the word organic being slapped on everything to ensure it's accepted by the middle class consumer and sold at an inflated price. Luckily in this case, Mullan's farm seem solely interested in producing top of the range meat. This little butcher/farm shop towards the front of the market sells everything from corn-fed chickens (producing that lovely yellow skin which crisps up very well when fried) to venison and beef. I left with half a dozen eggs the last time, slightly more pricey than Mc Carthy's egg stall across the way but they were still great. I ended up using them in a spinach and goats cheese soufflé, very tasty and I recommend it.

For such a central location you'd expect more. Today I felt very sorry for the raining stall holders as they stood about twiddling their thumbs. They really need to start promoting this market a little better in my opinion in order to bring back the custom.

Folkstown Market is smaller scale, but has everything you could want from a market. The variety of fruit and veg in this wee shop is incredible - if you're a City office worker and you're looking to nip out at lunch and get some ingredients for dinner then come here. The spuds still have soil on them and the carrots have their roots firmly attached. Forget organic this is just fresh produce transported from farm to stall in the blink of an eye. Not only is it fresh but it's cheap too. It's not often in this day and age that you can get anything for under a £1 but here you could pick up 3lb's of carbalicious potatoes for that price. I urge you to forget the supermarket giants and give Fruiterama a go!

I've been cooking for a long time and it was either cooking or journalism that was going to be my career path. I took the latter but experimenting with food has now become my method of relaxation. I've been here numerous times. This little seafood stall in St George's Market has been here since I've been coming and has a gaggle of fresh local seafood. The range varies according to fishing periods and what's available. I've bought huge bags of fresh Irish mussels for a paltry £3. Large, moreish and juicy they cannot be beaten. Try sautéing a finely diced torpedo shallot, a clove of garlic and a dash of black pepper. Fire in a large glass of dry white wine and a glass of water, make sure its in a large pot then fire in the mussels. Put the lid on and cook for 4-5mins. Then take the mussels out, add about 100mls of double cream, stir for 30secs and add the mussels back in, toss around and serve. The range is superb. I have a white fish allergy so have to stick to fresh seafood, salmon and tuna but the fish is always of the freshest, highest quality.

Well a 'Billy Burger ' is a kid goat burger and boy oh boy it tasted good. At first I was a little skeptical about eating goat but then I remembered back to the Billy Goats Gruff story from my childhood and this settled my mind as I knew they'd be nice and tender from running from trolls all day. Hope at least someone gets that reference. Anyway, the kid goat burger was amazing, cooked right in front of me and slightly on the rare side. The burger was garnished with tzatziki, cheddar cheese, pickled carrot and pickled cabbage. It truly was a taste sensation. I chatted to the guys running the Broughgammon farm stall and they said they are regulars at Farmers Markets all over Northern Ireland as well as having an on site farm shop in Ballycastle, Ballymena and Coleraine. They only use the finest produce and all their livestock is free range which makes it extra tasty. There's a great story about the history of the farm on their website - well worth a read. The stall itself was excellent, quick service and really friendly staff - definitely worth a visit if you're at St Georges Market. When local produce is cooked street style and it still tastes like gourmet food you know the ingredients are top notch and this is the case with Broughgammon Farm's goods.

I have a habit of using good quality pork sausages in my quite frankly fantastically superb Italian ragu/bolognese. I generally end up using some of Tesco finest pork sausages and take the meat out because it generally has a much better flavour than using the usual pork mince found at the supermarche. I called over to the stall a few weeks back to see what they had to offer. The had the usual pork and leek and a few other spatterings of porky goodness but I opted for their standard, award winning bangers. They were fantastic. Rich and meaty and very well seasoned. I took the meat out and fried it in a solid steel pan, not a non-stick and let the meat catch at the bottom. Once browned, I de-glazed the pan and then went on with the rest of the dish. A superb place to get the best quality sausages in Northern Ireland.
