I didn't know what to do so my family contacted their dentist Dr. Hou. Thankfully he squeezed me into his schedule the following day when my cousin's kids were already scheduled. He took care of my issue so easily and reassured me that I'll be ok! He could have taken the opportunity to do dental work on me, but he definitely had my best interest in mind and assured me that I already had a good follow-up plan back in the US. I then got to witness how kind and patient Dr. Hou and his team were with teeth cleaning (and attempted teeth cleaning!) for my 2- and 4-year-old nephew and niece. I was impressed how gentle, cajoling, yet non-forceful they were. It's not easy to clean kids' teeth! If I had one, or some, I would definitely send my kid(s) to Dr. Hou. His office is pretty swanky too! Asides from cute yet stylish decorations, there was a TV monitor embedded in the ceiling! I've never seen that before. I almost wished I had more dental issues or Dr. Hou was a little less ethical so that I could have the experience of  watching TV while getting dental work!

Dr. Caroline Choi is the gentlest, sweetest dentist I have ever met. Her bedside manner will put you at ease as will the hygienists. In some dental clinics they have the hygienists do the cleaning but not here! Dr. Choi does everything and the hygienists assist. They don't charge more than the BC Dental Association fees like some dentists do. Dr. Choi actually gave me tips on how to save money for teeth whitening! In essence, this is a great dental clinic you can feel good coming to.

He did a very in-depth physical examination with a ton of documented notes (mostly high tech Ortho speak). Then a series of photographs of the teeth and then digital x-ray series. The office decor is very cool with a upmarket studio feel. The staff are very customer service centered, polite and professional. They even have great WIFI and tablets to while away the time if needed. The explanation for the braces, to correct my daughter's teeth, was thorough and not full of technical jargon. The kicker was when we got to the finances. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost for a 20 month program. I would highly recommend that you call and make an appointment soon if you have need of a great Orthodontist who is detail oriented.

Dr. Mah was close by and so was First Impression. Didn't end up booking with Dr. Mah as they charge for a consult whereas First Impression is free! Yah.... I'm cheap (or should I say wise with my money)! But really, waive the $75, spend an hour of your time and show people your work and you are highly likely to land a $6-8k client! Booked an appointment with First Impression. When you walk into the office you are impressed at how new, clean and bright it is! The office is also lined by gorgeous photos...all taken by Dr. Luu himself! The kids are impressed there is an electronics area with various electronic devices. There is free wifi, a station for coffee and hot chocolate. I even laughed as they recently added a card stand with lots of different handmade cards (all really nice and professional looking may I add) all made by Dr. Luu's wife. It's a one stop shop! Anyhow, back to the review.... The staff are all super nice, friendly, knowledgable and service oriented. I'd have to rate it in the top 5% for service I have ever encountered, it's just that good! Our paediatric dentist's practice is partnered with an orthodontic arm so she doesn't necessarily deal with a lot of outside orthodontists. But she has mentioned to me that she is really impressed by Dr. Luu as he has sent her a few detailed letters (copy was sent to me too) telling her that it would be a good idea to bring my daughter in for a cleaning because her oral hygiene was not up to standards. The first times was maybe 4-5 months into the treatment and another time was a few months after that. After the second letter I showed my daughter the letter and told her she needed to step it up!!!! Glad to report she finally got that she needed to do a better job! I love that they switched over to an electronic appointment reminder so I get an email a week before my daughter's appointment. You confirm on the email that you can make the appointment. if you can't you just email them or call them to change. It's very efficient! It's easy to get/change an appointment since they are open wed-sat for the most part (sometimes the days change as he has an office in Whitehorse that he visits a few times a month). If I have to add a con to my review because not everything can be 100% perfect. I have had my daughter tell me she needed more elastics or a wire was bugging her AFTER the office closes on Sat, so you do have to wait until Wed which can be inconvenient, but nothing to move it below a 5 star review as hey, medical professionals need some family time too! Oh and btw, I did book one other consult with a highly rated place in Vancouver just to get a second quote. Walked in and it was an old drabby office. The orthodontist and staff weren't nearly as friendly/personable and their quote was over $1000 more than First Impression. So of course I walked out and ended up booking with First Impression.... and I'm glad I did! Anytime anyone is looking for an orthodontist in Burnaby, of course I have to refer Dr. Luu and his awesome staff! Our family works with 2 hygienists for cleanings, Viktoriya and Kelly, both are top notch and work with extreme attention to detail! I have recently completed phase 1 of a tooth implant process. It happens to be one of my very front teeth and you can imagine how vulnerable that might make you feel. Dr. Kwong is the dental surgeon that did the procedure and I was nothing less than blown away at how easy and painless it all was. I experienced virtually no pain during or after the procedure. There was very little swelling and absolutely no bruising. At the moment I am fitted with a temporary tooth as the grafting takes place, I will get my permanent implant in July. I'd say he is extremely good at what he does. And I would also have to mention the women who run administration, Michelle and Karolina. Awesomely competent and well organized, super friendly too. As is everyone in the office! Karolina was also the assistant during my implant surgery and she was fantastic! This is an office that runs top to bottom like a high end and well oiled machine. I've had bad experiences as a kid/teenager. For weeks, and hours leading up to the appointment, I was getting anxiety and my husband reassured me I was in good hands. My first experience was with the front desk, and the young ladies were lovely and genuine. They had my insurance set up; I didn't need to lift a finger. In LESS THAN 12 hours I got my return from Sunlife (benefits company). It was so simple and quick! The actual office is state of the art, quick, and effective. Everything including X-rays are shown up on LCD TVs in front of you so you know what the dentists plan on fixing or improving. I had Kelly as my dental hygenist. She was kind, relatable, understanding, and empathetic. Did I mention she has a great sense of humour? She was professional and made me feel super comfortable. She demonstrates a true passion for her role and her attention to detail was impeccable. She also explained what plaque and tartar was and how it could impact teeth and gums. During the cleaning process I was fighting to stay awake! I was so relaxed I could have taken a nap! She gave me the remote to the TV and I watched TV and relaxed while she did her thing. Normally I would be gripping the edge of the chair in fear. Dr. Ma is very friendly and understanding. She has a great sense of humour and does her best to make her patients feel welcome. You can also see the openness she has with the hygienists and the sense of partnership they share. The experience from beginning to end has really reduced my fear of dentists and have already booked future appointments with anticipation. I am young and wanting to protect my teeth for decades to come. They have really changed my view of someone putting hands and loud gadgets in my face. There were many occasions where someone in our family chipped a tooth or lost a filling and we were given emergency time in the office... so I am happy to reschedule my appointment if I need to give up my appointment to someone else who has an emergency.
