Easily in the conversation for best hoagies in Maryland. This butcher has been on my short list for a while thanks to its recent fame in the Hoagie Gurus Facebook group, where their Old World Italian has become something of a legend. After finally making the trip, I can confidently say it deserves every bit of that buzz. We stopped in on a Saturday around lunchtime and the place had a steady flow of customers. My wife and I ordered the Old World Italian hoagie along with a hot roast beef and gravy grinder that was running as a special. While we waited, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and we took some time to browse their butcher case. Everything looked fantastic, and we ended up leaving with several packs of house made sausages that were too interesting to pass up, including a chicken crab cake sausage and a brisket cheddar. After a short wait, our subs were ready and they were both absolute units. Since they have a few two tops for the lunch crowd, we did not even make it to the car before digging in. The Old World Italian was exactly what I hoped for. Piled high with Italian meats and cheeses, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers, and prosciutto, all served on a sturdy yet soft seeded roll. The meats were perfectly layered so every bite was balanced and flavorful. No dead spots, no overwhelming salt bombs, just a beautifully constructed hoagie. The hot roast beef grinder was equally impressive. Freshly shaved beef, rich gravy, and melted provolone came together in a way that felt indulgent without being heavy. Comfort food done right. Between the quality of the sandwiches, the welcoming staff, and the incredible butcher offerings, Galvinell Meat is a destination. It is absolutely worth the drive and firmly belongs in any serious Maryland hoagie conversation.

We stopped in for lunch and went straight for their grilled footlong hot dog with fresh-cut fries, plus a pack of snack sticks from the butcher shop. Calling it a "hot dog" doesn't do it justice--this thing is a perfectly spiced, seasoned sausage, and it's enormous. It comes tucked into a super soft, fluffy roll, and we topped ours with Schmidt's homemade sauerkraut and mustard. Watching (and smelling) it sizzle on the flat-top grill right in front of us made the whole experience even better. The fresh-cut fries were spot on--especially with plenty of malt vinegar available (thank you, Schmidt's!). The whole meal could easily satisfy two hungry adults. Beyond lunch, Schmidt's has so much to offer--Wednesday Night Dinners with homestyle favorites, Friday & Saturday lunch specials (like their signature footlong sausage sandwich, brisket, smash burgers, and more), and of course their incredible butcher shop with sausages, bacon, sauerkraut, and seasonal treats. PRO TIP: Don't just wander in and hope for the best. Schmidt's keeps things interesting with their Wednesday Night Dinners and Friday & Saturday Lunch Specials, but the only way to know what's cooking is to stalk their Facebook page... unless you like living dangerously and showing up to be surprised. Either way, you're winning! This isn't just a place to stop if you're nearby--it's a weekend lunchtime destination worth planning around. Schmidt's has earned a permanent spot on my go-to list!

He's always caring to my needs and special orders. 4th of July I ordered a brisket to smoke. It was a hit! Best brisket I have ever smoked. Every year for Christmas, my prime rib is top notch, and last thanksgiving I did rotisserie turkey legs and honestly, I have never had better turkey meat in my life. The butter sold in store is unmatched. The Canadian bacon is so good too. The girls working the counter are always super friendly and helpful. I also love their produce. Best watermelon around! I buy a couple every week. I split it with my chickens. My favorite thing about this place is that you can see the cows across the street, living their lives enjoying the pasture. I'm telling you, bring home a few filets. You will not be disappointed. Oh! And the skirt steaks are amazing on the grill. 10/10 all day. I usually buy 5 ribeyes and 5 filets a week. My husband and I really only eat red meat and we never get tired of the steaks. They carry a tallow face cream too, and I've been using it for about a month and have gotten so many compliments that I look rested!
