I learned what it meant to have virtue. The teachers are the best people you will ever meet. Their joy and wonder for life and learning inspires me to this day. However, this school is not for the weak of heart. It takes grit and determination to do well with their classical education. But if you commit, you will learn what it truly means to be human. My love for learning flourished as did my love for the world around me. I will send my kids here one day. And hopefully be apart of the Golden View family forever.

In the elementary school, students are taught to read using an explicit phonics program with a focus on grammar and spelling, along with cursive handwriting. Saxon and Singapore math are strategically sequenced to take advantage of the strengths of each program. An early exposure to Latin and Greek roots is followed by a formal Latin sequence in grades 6-9 in order to enhance the student's vocabulary, spelling, and command of the English language. In the upper grades, instruction includes a course in rhetoric, the use of primary source documents, Socratic seminar, and the study of classical literature that has withstood the test of time. I would not recommend this school to anyone. Children are mistreated, and they then have long-term emotionally issues to deal with. Run away from this school. The principal is completely ineffectual and not capable of running a school. When we brought our issues to her she pretended she did not know what was going on in the classroom. The teacher continued working after several children were removed from her classroom. This is not a safe school for children.

We were very excited when our child got a spot at this school. Unfortunately, our first and only…read moreyear there wound up being very disappointing and frustrating. Our daughter was bullied relentlessly in her first classroom, and the teacher was so detached that he didn't even realize it was happening. I had been worried about her because she wasn't getting ANY works done and was having anxiety attacks on school nights that would often keep her up until past 11 PM, and when we finally figured out the cause, it was like pulling teeth to get the administrators to move her to a different classroom. Once she was moved, things improved for her generally, but I still have enough concerns to cause me to move her to a neighborhood school next year. A lot of the people who work at this school are wonderful, kind, hard working souls and I really don't want to make them feel undervalued. I've heard a few of the teachers are great, but I learned at the State of the School meeting that they have a high teacher turnover rate, as well as a high student turnover rate. The children also seem to face little to no consequences for bad behavior, and as a result I am actually embarrassed to be seen on field trips with them. My daughter went to a Title 1 school before this, and the children were much better behaved and respectful to adults and other children. On our last field trip at this school, I was actually shoved by a boy who was impatient to get off the bus! I did do research on the Montessori model and felt I understood what it entailed. My daughter scored very high on the CogAT and has natural curiosity, so I thought this would be a great place for her. At this point, however, I am concerned that she will actually be behind her peers when she starts the second grade. There was a Gifted and Talented group that met once a week, but they never completed any projects and half the time they wouldn't remember to come get her for the meetings (she was 6 the whole year, and could barely remember what day of the week it was). I thought Montessori students would be encouraged to be kind and caring, but I know of more than one other child that has actually left the school due to bullying. One of the Upper El students even told me that bullying is worse at this school because the kids are "free to get up and bug you whenever they want." I know that Montessori is supposed to be self directed, but I don't see any reason that the teachers should not be clued in to what is happening in the classroom and intervene when it is really necessary.

Well for one, the Marine biology room has fire hazards all over the place. They have too many…read morethings plugged into very few outlets next to large tanks of water. The school does know about it but they haven't done anything and won't do anything till next year. This room has been like that for years. Even worse the science department has not so great science teacher's. Out of my four years there I only met one teacher that could help when I needed help. They have amazing English teachers and FCCLA teachers are great as well. The math department has good teachers as well so does the social studies department. Except one teacher who plays favorites.
